I had high hopes for this drama, and the first episode was very gripping but it quickly fizzled out. I'm on episode 7 and really struggling to stay interested. When it first started, it seemed like it was going to be a battle of wits and very clever, but more and more, it's just predictable and the characters are all so shallow and irritating, and this husband competition is just dragging...
I can't believe I couldn't finish this drama and has to drop it at episode 32. I usually like this kinda big family…
She is not a veteran actress. She has done very few dramas and all poorly rated. (I think she has backing in the industry.) She's been criticised for her poor acting in the past. But you never know with actors, sometimes they have a role that changes everything. Cheng Xiao for example could not act to save her life so much so that she started as FL and now only does support roles, but I think her acting has improved a lot recently! She was not bad in this role and also in Fangs of Fortune. I thought this would be Nazha's breakthrough drama, but I've watched some episodes of Glory now and wow, so far, her performance is like watching paint dry... Let's see how it is as the drama develops.
This drama is a really mixed bag. The story and concept itself is great and there aren't that many C drama scifis. The first half was pretty good with good build up and some great action scenes that kept things exciting. There's only two major creature scenes in the whole drama, one early on and a long one near the end. I started getting frustrated in the second half because it became painfully slow and you could just tell that all of the budget was concentrated in the creature scenes, and the rest was just filler of people sitting around without the plot moving at all. My impression was that the director became more interested in atmosphere and vibes than actual plot. Overall, I think it would have been much better as a movie tbh, cutting out all the unnecessary filler scenes and underdeveloped characters. As for the ending, there was a fantastic part that then ended suddenly (felt like they ran out of money or couldn't work out how for the characters to get from A to B) and then they fell back on C drama tropes. At the end, I had the feeling like the plot development was virtually pointless taking us right back at square 1.
So, if you're a very patient viewer, you can give it a go. There are definitely really good parts of this drama, but yeah, a lot of missed opportunities as well. One thing I think would have rescued this drama would have been 2 timelines of when the story really began (1000ish years ago) and the present. This would have made it a first rate drama.
Can I suggest you watch a bit more? The first few scenes of ep 1 weren't great, but it picks up. You might change…
To be fair, she apologised right away and tried to help him clean up. She went to the bathroom to get towels and when she came back he was gone. It was an accident. Later, he does something to her so there is immediate payback.
I mean they marketed it as the adaptation of the webtoon so 🤷♂️
The key word is adaptation, not copy. Some adaptations are faithful, some are not. This one clearly is the first, so anyone starting the drama should just not expect a copy of their favourite webtoon and then they won't be disappointed.
I think the writing/directing for the leads is a bit much for the first couple episodes. The flashback 10 minutes…
I thought the flashback scene at the beginning was a really bad choice, it really didn't fit. Also the party scene was weird because it ended so quickly, but it got much better after that.
I think I may have to give up on this one.
