You dropped for nothing... Read below at your own risk, major spoiler warning
No way!?! It really looked like one of those forgettable case-of-the-week shows with imaginary haunting. I am definitely picking this up!Thanks, I love ghost stories.....
The original thai series had sizzling NC scenes which frankly made me squirm and were totally unnecessary while…
KinnPorsche had a ridiculous storyline. It was made famous by the hot sensual scenes bordering soft porn. It those scenes had not been included it would have sunk very quickly into oblivion. But it was first to be so hot and fans could not see beyond that.
I am currently watching it and I fully agree about the first four episodes and funny banter and breaking the fourth wall. The drama's title was well deserved but just during those few first episodes. There is nothing delightful in the rest of the episodes Afterwards the drama dived straight into a revenge makjangy territory and was neither fun nor funny anymore. I have just finished episode 13, almost falling asleep. What did you find funny in these last episodes: there is just misery, death, revenge, backstabbing, secrets... I thought this was going to be a drama about a group of con artists exacting revenge: cons are supposed to be funny. Their's never really work because they don't really trust each other! See Leverage (US version: I haven't seen the korean one) as an example of good con artists show. They lost the original plot quickly here!
Dramas like season 1 and 2 of this one NEVER happen in Korea. I still have to watch one! At least they are more…
I don't really look for adult content in dramas really but adult themes, subjects that are bold and unusual and that I find a lot of in j dramas. Even for my western mind, japanese dramas are beyond anything I'd ever seen, they break a lot of taboos that is unheard of in woke western entertainment or formulaic K dramas. That is what I liked about the first season of this one: both FL and ML are unapologetically slutty and no one seems to think less of them. Amazing! That's why the third-season was such a disappointment because they dumbed the FL down without reason. She really became virginal, shy and clumsy damsel in distress because she was in love! How pathetic! As for kissing... I just finished Liar a few days ago after originally dropping it a few months ago because of a horrible kissing scene in the first five minutes: they did not know what to do with their faces, it was just so cringy to watch. I picked it up because the plot interested me and frankly they could have saved themselves the trouble of filming kissing scenes since they were unconvincing, they should have just faded out and we would have understood the scene without seeing it!
"We went from an adult japanese drama to a classical korean one: full of tropes, unnecessary characters (the sister?!?!?)…
Dramas like season 1 and 2 of this one NEVER happen in Korea. I still have to watch one! At least they are more frequently found in Japan though the amount of fish kissing even in those is scary! I am still relatively new to J dramas but I have noticed significant differences between them and korean ones. As for Momo, you are right she did change but she regressed and changed for the worse: the writers chose to focus solely on her bad traits and habits!
I hope this is a signal to the powers that be that Editorials need to be prioritized again.I'm also hoping my…
These two editorials they published seem to be written a long time ago. I agree with your suggestion but we have been asking them why and got no answer. So even if it is so nice to read a fun editorial like this one, I would not hold my breath: once they've published what they have on stock, we’ll just be getting insipid news and "5 reasons to watch (a korean drama c urrently airing)" written by their paid staff writers. As you can see; in spite of the success and lively discussion, this editorial stayed on top of the main page just 24h in order to be drowned by casting news nobody is interested in! I wish your petition succeeds but Administrators accept them like...never! I'll go and vote nevertheless.I really hope I am wrong !!!!
It's perhaps best to come to something before it's hyped. I started 'My Dearest' without much expectation, to…
Thank you for this explanation! As for the ending, those endless feeds posts (pointing to a lots of angst and difficulties) have kind of announced it. As it is still airing, it is just my guess. I do not know much about the plot save it's a sageuk star crossed lovers story(goldfish memory!lol). I just hope they wrap it up correctly, fitting the plot development and not dropping the ball and have everything "magically" turn out well. Of which a lot of k dramas are guilty! As you say, sometimes hype is justified! I hope this one stays that way to the end! And I wish all hypes were justified....

Actually, that is what I usually do with superhyped drama: I wait a few months or more in order to forget all the hype and when I am in the right mood or interested, I watch. Though generally, even then, I am disappointed. Like with The Untamed which I watched only about 4 months ago ... Vincenzo too! I dropped it after 25min: too ridiculous to bear! Rule of thumb for me: highly hyped dramas are also high rated dramas and so are to be avoided! Everybody keeps talking about the episode 4 of My Dearest....so they must have done something really good there. I'd probably give it a look next year if the ending is a happy one! lol
OMG same, Love O2O made no sense to me (and yes WHY did they fall in love ??? cuz they are pretty cutouts? lol),…
It is classic Bollywood: SRK and Preity Zinta romancing between Pakistan and India. Very patriotic. Nice music. Bad make up. Franklyn ther are better movies than this one but the plot reminded me of CLOY: love between enemy countries....
First of all: great article! And pretty, to boot! Hype definitely kills the mood as I have discovered painfully all by myself by watching them (Goblin, The Untamed....and the rest in the MDL Top 20) and not understanding the hype! I never watch airing dramas but I noticed a pattern in hyped shows here in the Feeds: when the drama starts, it is usually proclaimed to be the best thing ever to be filmed, the actors are amazing and the plot is fabulous. Few episodes later, the first cracks appear: where are the writers going with this subplot etc.etc.? As the drama continues airing, the posts are more and more few and far between until they completely disappear around episode 12. Then when it finishes airing some stubborn NDD syndrome sufferers, kindly tell us not to waste our time, that the drama was pretty but messy and the writers have ruined the ending! AoS2, DAYS, 2125, OBS, Heartbeat, Island and every second season of a K drama! Currently airing My Dearest is just the latest example of highly hyped drama that I am unwilling even to consider watching because of the hype. I have a feeling it might not end the way The Cult members are expecting it. MD posts are dwindling fast! And anyway, I noticed that even The Cult's most loud members have moved on to hyping another drama(Kunning Palace) even before MD had finished airing. I think it says a lot! As for the MDL ratings, anything above 8.5 is overhyped and I usually do not like it (I liked CLOY but to my defense it was my first K drama and I did not know better at the time!).
I am so happy to see a real editorial back. And I am not the only one I see: the reactions and the discussions since the article was published(5 hours and over 60 comments!) are extraordinary! Thank you!
