I'm mainly a Cdrama watcher who loves mostly Wuxia, Xianxia and historical drama.
Themes that I like
- Adventure, martial arts, gods, goddesses, dragons, magic, etc.- all the good stuff you'll find in Cdrama fantasy :)
- Comedy! Wether it's historical comedy (my favourite) or modern romcoms
- Mystery/ detective series
- Romance- if done well.
Themes that I don't like or don't care about
- High school and college centered dramas. Especially high school romance. Yeah, I'm not in the age to enjoy that anymore.. 🙃
- Childish or bratty FLs- Not in the age to enjoy that anymore either. Thankfully I see them less and less in newer dramas.
- Modern slice of life dramas. Sometimes watching them can feel a bit like a chore for some reason. I did enjoy the few SOL moments I came across in historical/ fantasy dramas tho!
- Palace politics (unless done well like in Joy of Life)
- Repablican era dramas
- Thrillers. I used to watch them but now my tolerance for dark and heavy stuff grows thinner and thinner.

To me, story is the heart of a drama, it's essentially everything. So I will never rate a drama lower because of things like bad CGI or costumes. Even if the acting is meh, as long as it's not SO bad that it kicks me out of the story, I will let it go. Dramas are essentially stories performed on stage- If the stage is pretty, it's a bonus, but the story is what matters.
I don't tend to put anything on my "Currently Watching" list since I seem to suffer from a curse of dropping every drama I put there shorty after. Lol. But I always only watch one drama at a time, and immerse myself in the world and the characters.
These days I tend to prefer low-stress dramas, and if it's a comedy or a romcom- even better.

Some personal favourite dramas that I keep coming back to:

Sword Snow Stride

Guardians of the Dafeng

The Immortal Ascention
