Loved it. Came of Xiao Zhan and stayed for the story and visuals. Can't rememeber the last show i bothered to watch from start to finish and eagerly wait for every episode! Brilliant!!!

Can someone tell me if this show is doing well in ratings etc? I heard it is a big deal for it to be broadcast on cctv and i want XZ’s show to do excellent business. How hs it been so far?

Everyone has an opinion about it and frankly speaking no one knows for certain. I think its one of those touchy topics that will create a lot of debate and negativity. Might be worth deleting your comment if you dont want that.

That AvenueX lady is full of crap. She hasn’t really posted anything positive about XZ since the 227 incident but now feels the need to announce to the world that she is ‘choosing’ to not do any videos on XZ. That is a surefire way of tryong to grab more attention and traffic. No one cared if she didnt cover XZ for past 9 months, why make a big deal of it now? There are plenty of other popular channels which happily cover XZ (marcus sim for example) so she can just shove it.

Silly question from international viewer. Is Darren Wang famous? I heard that all 3 leads are popular right now. I know XZ and Li Qin but havent seen DW in anything and therr dont seem to be any hit or popular dramas of him

They just released all 49 episodes. This worries me. Shouldnt they build up the ratings and anticipation over weeks to get this show some good exposure and word of mouth etc? Why would they just release in one go. It wouldnt even have time to get on any of the drama charts!

I heard antis have already started attacking the drama on douban, giving it a 1.0 star rating! Let him live peacefully for god’s sake.

I am very excite but also a bit disappointed as it seems that it is a tiny role. Hope its impqctful in the overall sceme of things. Glad that it is CCTV so it is a ringing endoresement of XZ’s value

Thanks for the article! These are my 2 cents as a non chinese fan who doesnt quite understand the intricacies of c-ent. Whether on purpose or by Default, not having a lot of XZ material hs actually fuelled his value to consumers. Not having any new drama new and still waiting for older dramas to release has made fans very hungry for his dramas. I see some other stars who have one drama after the other either releasing or in production and it makes me feel like after a point the over exposure will hurt them. Quality has to rein supreme at some point. Plus the fans believe that these will be wuality dramas. I see so many dramas coming out every day that its impossible to keep up. So XZ’s dramas making us wait is actually in a way setting it apart a little. Same goes for endorsements. Otheres have 25-30 under their belt and Xz has may be 6-8 that he is working with. No one is in doubt that this is by choice. So if and when he does take on another brand that company’s sale will go thru the roof. Once again, this kind of curiosity and craze, marketing companies cant even buy if they throw tons of money at it. In my mind what sets XZ apart is that a normal star worries about losing his fan base if he disappears for a while, but in XZ’s case his fanbase is worried about losing him when he disappears, so they are waiting for him, letting him know that whenever he comes, he will be celebrated and worshipped, but on HIS terms. This really is an Idol deserving of all his fans!

I miss the crazy spark ofr life he used to show in his previous appearances. He appears a lot more subdued amd cautious in his recent videos. High price for being good☹️

Great idea. I wud love to understand terms like black/white capital. Also why he is being targeted so badly. He is not the first and only celebrity to get super popular after a show. Also your impression of what would likely be on horizon for him like work wise

Thanks dor such a detailed answer. What or who do you mean by ‘capital’? I think the dirty trick that youth show played on him by not showing his episode hurt him too. It was such a horrible thing to do to him. I feel like may be he is slowly testing th ewaters this month for returning in some way. At least i hope so.

Janec, i heard rumors that Xz is not being approached foe new shows and might even be boycotted by producers because of all the negativity surrounding him. What is ur thoughts?

I wonder if the uptick in his appearances amd social media interactions are meant to test the waters for his return to a public stage? I really hope so.

When you say netizen you mean the antis? Are they really that huge in number that it shakes these multicorporations like Mango and hunan tv etc? Also i have seen so many dramas where actors play docs and are completely clueless about anything medical. Are these tv stations really getting shaken by such stupid arguments?

Putting OOL/DC/The wolf to one side, what about new projects? I know there is no way to know f or sure but what is the speculation about future dramas and projects for XZ? Are there chances he has signed something new? I just think if he doesn't take anything new on in 2020, then the next time we will see a proper drama from him would in sometime in 2022 at the earliest (given C-drama timelines).
