I don't remember which episode, but there was a scene where ML's uncle had him beaten up with a whip (a 108 lashes). It's all said in the article.

I'm quite sure Zhang Linghe is capable of portraying a realistic sense of being struck and exhausted without being actually beaten up and abused. I've seen some of his dramas and he's a good actor. There was no need to beat him up IRL

Wait, so they actually ABUSED HIM on set? Isn't acting supposed to be... well... acting? Is he such a bad actor that they had to actually beat him up to shoot the scene?
