I liked it, I loved that they put such a focus on the cooking right until the last episode (looking at you Mr. Queen). I made for the first time some Bibimbap with brown butter today, delicious! And spring onion pancakes, too, so if you need inspiration in the kitchen and like cooking shows and cooking anime, this is good. Its not ground breaking, but I did not feel like skipping. 12 episodes was a good lenght.
This might sound silly but i had no idea Japan does historical short series (i know of the really long ones that…
I second this questio! I enjoyed watching Jin and Jin Season 2, it's a time travel and medical story set in the same period as this show. It's on european netflix.
Thinking about the cousins thing.. if their mothers were actually sisters, they would have the same family name? Since they wifes don't take the husbands name after marriage? Exeptions in Cdrama only apply if a mom with a child leaves the husband and does not want the child to be connected to the father anymore- but since both women married HIGH up generals thats hardly possible, since a fatherless girl is less worthy to be married so high society.
Omg this show felt like an answer to a decade long tease of tiny minor queer sideplots in period and costume dramas! Finally the young master and the butler get each other and as a chefs kiss bonus cherry on top even the girls get a happy ending! Like what? The novel author pulled that straight out of the audiences fanfiction brain cell. And it really smells like they'll do season 2 and we get an even EARLIER timeline with another incarnation and way more interesting costumes, including the infamous 'stache XD. I am swooning people.
Do you have any recommendations with complicated but straight characters in love like this one? Basically, What…
Oh dear, really... maybe In the Mood for Love? A classic for a reason and some similar topics and it's been ages since I watched it but I totally remember the heartache. To be fair some struggles in the Cornered mouse movie can't be directly translated to a straight romance, yk. I'll just give you a list of movies with unusual lovestories that I found very moving: 3-Iron Mars (Drama 2004 Taiwan) House of flying Daggers Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind Moonrise Kingdom
First: Watch this alone and with headphones, this is a japanese movie, they ain't afraid of much. Also you may need a pillow to squeeze. Not fluffy and cute at all, more in the heart wrenching territory of Ang Lees Brokeback Mtn, similar silence and repressed characters, but set in modern Tokyo. Beautifully filmed. They director really liked to film dark scenes with Watarus eyes glittering underneath his bangs. There are no inner dialogues (like in the manga), but my brain automatically supplied them. Easy rating of 9 points, the ratings for this movie are atrocious.
Does anyone else also has this terrible squeaky no bgm sound quality when watching this series on youtube (from…
This might be a copyright issue, sometimes not all rights for a dramas music are bought for worldwide release on youtube so they butcher the sound by cutting it out. It's super annoying.
If you are not against a setting in a palace with concubines and everything, give it a try! It's quite lighthearted for a palace drama and has a bit of a vibe like "New life begins". A lot of communication between the main couple, which is quite refreshing. Oh and the bane of every palace drama -the nasty intruiging concubines, ministers and eunuchs- actually get satisfyingly punished. And it has one of my favourite C-Drama tropes of them all: Loyal, nice and funny siblings.
Oh that film was a sweet and heartfelt brain cleanser y'all. We get a meet cute, a proposal, a wedding, a coming out and another wedding, sp even if I'd liked a kiss in the end, it's fine. By the way, someone asked why Mizuki had to be a lemon farmer, thats because the Seto inland sea and Shikoku and Kyushu especially are absolutely famous for their citrus, they are everyyyyywhere (and really delicious). I's like the tropeist job you can have as someone from that area. I also highly recommend the area if one of you might do some Japan vacation, really pretty and by far not as crowded as Kyoto or Osaka (but quite near these cities). Ferry riding, bathing in onsen and eating citrus products and watching the tiny islands in the deep blue sea is really relaxing.

Some clown over at the JITD page was saying how "beautiful" censorship was, because BL is now full of "feelings"…
I saw that one as well and they argued that if you censore it at least the more well known (and more experienced) actors will dare to take the roles... well they meant in Korean entertainment. Because I would say you could not cast a better fitting actor as Shizun than Luo Yunxi. Looks and talentwise and has a biiig fandom. *spoiler* I watch TTEOFTM and also only see Shizun who got the flower of evil implanted and became the all around evil kneevil in the 2ha world.
I also think that Lovely Complex and Death Parade would be perfect for korean production, I can already imagine…
Yes, JDrama based on josei or seinen manga can be really great- even if I'd have looooved to see a more interesting cinematography and more polished post poduction. But what really sticks is the writing, the characters, the directing and acting (Mystery o lunakare anyone?). And due to the small number of episodes the plot is usually very tight and has much less watering down than korean or chinese shows. Au contraire, often fans feel too much has been left out if it's based on a manga. So for a longer manga, that is not so heavily tied to japanese custuoms like many slice of life stories are, I'd be in for a K-Adaption. Maybe Skip Beat or Black Lagoon? Or better manga that have an actual end ~

WX and ZYZ gave me besties who love each other platonically and are in tune enough to understand each other without speaking and I find them cute.
But the the bromance was the romance here imho.
