The cut scenes would have shown much less than the scene — in the early part of the drama — where Duan Xu takes a bath while being secretly watched by Simu (a scene that does not exist in the novel). I fear that rather than censorship, the ax has fallen from the screenwriter, who — after the first third of the episodes, which were faithful to the novel — began to insert things that were not planned and to remove others. Or perhaps the screenwriter previously worked for the censorship 🤣🤣🤣

I had the exact same impression about the kiss: the BTS footage I saw a while back was much more engaging than the final scene edited for the episode. In the BTS video, it almost feels like he suddenly interrupts Simu with a kiss—and so does the novel! - while in the episode, everything is much calmer and less emotional. Or at least, that was my impression...

Spoiler ep 30-31

For those who haven't read the novel, episodes 30 and 31 will probably still be very good. Having read the novel, however, I expected much more. The romantic declarations are fine, but a lot of little details that would have made it all more exciting are missing, from the funny reference to their wedding night, to her waking up with a hoarse voice, to Duan Xu's scandalized sister discovering them in bed together the next morning, to her leaving her artistic touch permanently, tattooing his back—at Duan Xu's request—with a plum branch and snow-covered flowers. Instead, the whole emphasis has been toned down.

The wait of 67 chapters in the novel to finally appreciate the romance between the two was worth it; the 29 episodes of the drama to see them capitulate like this in the 30th... I honestly don't know. I still find it a very beautiful drama, especially the first part, which was faithful to the novel, and I'll continue watching it because of the main actors. But I don't think I'll remember it as a masterpiece, or at least I'll always have the feeling that it could have been better...

For now, I'm afraid we won't see anything for a long time. I'd also be curious to see him in a non-romance, but I can't give up a good romance either - at least one a year - so my main hope is to have at least 2 dramas - 3 would be wonderful - a year...

Happy ending. Simu becomes a mortal human.

Duan Xu was kidnapped as a child. His father, to avoid giving in to the kidnappers, abandoned him, telling them they had taken the wrong child (and replacing Duan Xu with a fake son). Duan Xu escapes from the kidnappers and ends up in the assassins' sect. When he escapes from there too, seven years later, he reappears at his family home. At that point, his father makes the fake Duan Xu disappear—sent away for years so no one would know he wasn't the real one—and puts the real one back in its proper place, returning him to the capital.

During Tencent Video All Star Night 2025—around last December—CFY had stated that three of his works would be broadcast in 2026. Three. Love Story in 1970 and Love Beyond the Grave... And the third? I doubt he was referring to a film—the one he's filming now with Wang Yinglu won't be seen until 2027, I think—so... What's missing? I'd say Immortality, but after years of waiting, is it possible that the time has finally come?

Could the next drama be "Destined to Love You" (“偏偏宠爱” by Teng Luo Wei Zhi)? Or are these just old rumors?

As much as I enjoyed him in Lighter & Princess and When Destiny Brings the Demon, I think he truly outdid himself in the recent (March 2026) "Love Story in the 1970s," demonstrating great talent and versatility.

No stupid misunderstandings, no stupid breakups. Ever closer as they face each obstacle one by one. It's truly a drama not to be missed...

In the future, I'd love to see CFY star in a drama set in the Chinese Republican era, perhaps in a military role (something similar to 2021's "Fall in Love"), or a drama with an antihero seeking revenge, like the Kdrama "Vincenzo."

There's not much to say, it's a masterpiece!

Ciao! Devo essermi espressa male in qualche punto perchè dicevo che l'attore principale è l'unica nota positiva del drama a mio avviso. Lo apprezzo molto - infatti ho visto la maggior parte dei drama da lui interpretati - e quel tipo di ruolo (bello e dannato) gli calza a pennello. Mi piacerebbe però vederlo spaziare anche in altri ruoli, in futuro. Fino ad allora mi riservo il dubbio che sia una mancanza di possibilità, di versatilità o di entrambe (sarei ovviamente felice se fosse la prima delle tre)
