You can try Youthful Glory. I am enjoying this far more better than TPOB as of the moment. But, maybe it will not be your cup of tea because it is like TPOB, it is more into light-hearted romance than politics. Have you finished LNF?

Flourished Peony.. it is a cultural historical drama. The romance is there but not so. However, it is incomplete. Better wait for season 2 to air and binge-watch.

Oh, how ironic! Same profiles that are visible in TPOB thread are also here. 😅 Anyway, not a fan of any of the actors. I knew dai lu wa because of lost you forever and it’s my 1st drama of song wei long. This drama in my native tongue makes me “kilig” 🥰

I understand your insights, I have reiterated and raised it in some of my comments here as well. Like you said they simplied the characters. The multi-faceted scheme of things and dynamics of the characters are lost along the process. Oh well, I guess the screenwriter made it more easy and appealing to the public.

It is meant to be as a feel good romance historical drama like straight out of a fairytale novel. That is why this drama tugs the hearts of many who are hopeless in love. It has a touch of comedic relief as well. So this drama delivered in making hearts flutter with the visual grandeur of scenes between the hero and heroine. The underlying political dilemma does not resonates soundly unlike in the premise or past eps. Maybe because they are building-up the relationship of the main leads before the great conquest arc arrives.

It really bothers me now how some petty people are about their fave. Like if you made criticism about the character portrayal not the actress perse, they will made it personal and say you are bias. Someone even cunningly stalked and mentioned my fave actress to trap and prove her point that I am bias. Hahaha! In the first place, I never mentioned anyone. And I don’t have anything or beef against this actress as it is my first time to fully watch her drama because I enjoy this. She is not even the same generation as my fave and they were both child star. So why drag it here, but look at some of the responses here. Haha! Anyway, the first 10 eps as I said are solid for me. I love her portrayal at the beginning but I started to notice that she kept delivering the scene with the same disbelief stare, expression, etc. so well maybe this is how she attacked her role. I am just hoping for more facial transitions, depth portrayal so we can feel the emotional aspect of the scenes.

Yes, that is why the past few eps relies heavily on the love department. I even mentioned before that it became an idol historical romance unlike the initial premise offered by the early eps wherein there are political warfare, mind games etc. Anyway, love your mature insights.

@ginger, But the mere fact that you keep reiterating about her in other people’s comment specifically discussing about her lacking of micro expressions about the role just shows how intense of a fan you are. Dear, it is my opinion of her portrayal and you don’t need to shove to me that she is the best in this role.

Dear @daisy, being bias also has nothing to with me liking or not this drama for me to watch something else. I continue to watch it because I enjoy some aspects of it. If I raised some point about it, it’s because of the reasons I said in my above post. My opinion with regards with the redundant facial expressions and delivery of the character of the fl touched and hit a nerve of some of her fans and take it personally against me.

Aside from Yang zi, there are other actresses who can pull this through. I know you are a bias fan of Song Zuer, so it must HURT you. 🙂🙂🙂 in the first few eps, she is doing well but lately, she is showing the same exact expression.
