Honestly I am little bit lost with FL story . It still unclear how FL can ended become infamous Lu Wen.
FL is from a (quite liberal) merchant family on her mother's side. Thanks to this, she's business-savvy and quite resourceful.
When the time came for her to get married, she managed to escape this arranged match and decided to live as an outlaw involved in illegal business dealings (along with her maternal uncle). Due to the nature of her job + her support to Ziyu (the rightful heir to the throne who was in the process of staging a coup), she decided to lead her group using a fake identity.
She had to become Lu Wen to protect her family as she was involved in illegal iron trading with foreign tribes. This is a crime that could lead to her whole family being annihilated for high treason since: 1) iron trade should be solely managed under the court supervision, 2) iron can used to create weapons that could be used during a coup, 3) these business dealings involved a rival army from a foreign land. Moreover, she's a woman and would be considered less legitimate to lead a group if people were aware of her gender.
Basically, FL became Lu Wen to lead a new life away from conventions, get involved in illegal business and political activities, and to protect her family
about ep 26/27, she looks so happy at the market in her merchant job!not sure i really get her past, she said…
The FL was indeed to marry merchant Cui Jiu (the match was arranged by her paternal family). She didn’t agree to this marriage, so she staged her own kidnapping by pseudo mountain bandits to gain emancipation. However, her maternal family (except for the uncle who helped her) was not aware of this and thought she was settled with merchant Cui Jiu in the capital.
ML's last name is also Cui. He's also his father's 9th son (9 = jiu), which explains why he is also known as Cui Jiu (aka 9th Cui son).
She and Ziyu were sweethearts but their relationship was platonic. Ziyu was the former crown prince's son. His dad was killed, but Ziyu managed to survive and hide. His identity as a bandit was a cover up to get financial resources to reclaim his throne
I wonder if miantang is really from a low class family. I mean they still don't show her paternal side, though…
I think it was mentioned in the early episodes that her paternal family are fallen officials/nobles. They were punished by the court and hence lost their status. Maybe someone who read the book can expand on that.
Her maternal family are merchants, which was indeed considered low class at the time as explained by the other commenter
The ML's dad was conferred with a noble title and a fiefdom for his military achievements, making him a vassal…
Indeed, his title is that of a Duke 😄 And his mother is a Duchess.
Depending on the translator, the same ML's title (Wang ye) would be translated differently (e.g. as "King" in Court Lady, "Prince" in this drama, or "Duke" in some others)
This drama is far from being a success in China though? In fact it's being discussed precisely because the data…
A MDL user has been compiling a list which has the 2024 Tencent dramas based on heat. Are You The One is currently ranked 12, which doesn't seem too bad!

What a shame... I thought the drama was performing fairly well. Hope the number of viewers will keep increasing as time goes on, especially as we're entering a brand new chapter in the drama

Hence, the ML (who inherited his father's title) has no blood relation to the imperial family.
The wheelchair bound guy is the ML's half-brother (same father, different mothers)

Well, it sucks for the cast and crew, and I hope it won't impact the releases of Rise of Ning and Love has Fireworks
