I saw this 🤣🤣

It's just insanity at this point. And I doubt It's actually related to the drama in itself...

Yup, the FOMH team really tried their best to promote and bring light to firefighters, which makes the backlash even harder to stomach

"I believe the official accounts joined it because the thing became so big they just couldn't not say anything."

I can confirm this. I have been following this mess from the beginning. The official accounts only commented AFTER c-netz made lots of noise about it

I have been following the news related to this drama from day 1. And I can assure you that the public outcry preceded the official announcements from those official bodies.

Also, I stand by what I said. The issue is not solely with antis (who are fandom dependent), but with so called passerbys who just needed something new to hate on.

I am well aware of the current social and political climate and I do believe that passerbys just took their general anger (justified at times) on this drama because it was easy to do so and because it was fueled by antis/yxh

I agree that the drama is not perfect (it has huge pacing/directing/editing issues in fact), but it isn't as problematic as they claim (when they are not spewing outright lies).

Regarding the ratings, whether people didn’t watch it, dropped midway or completed it, I cannot believe that +50% of people would rate 1* purely because the drama was mediocre. Btw, the FOMH TV run just ended and achieved its highest ratings over the last 2 episodes. A show that is universally hated would not trend that way, so I am curious about the demographics of TV viewers vs those who rated the show on Douban...

As for the acting, I thought it was fine overall. If you liked YY in other dramas, you'll like him here as well. Both the ML and FL are flawed (as intended by the script), but the direction/script didn’t help in getting the viewers on their side (as you can see in this comment section).

If you want to watch it, lower your expectations and you'll see that it does its job as an idol drama

I did specify in my 1st sentence that my post addressed the c-netizens' comments you shared. I am well aware that these were not your views.

As for the review bombing. Do you really think the voters who rated this show with a 1* actually watched it? I agree that passerbys =/= antis, but it doesn't mean that passerbys can't be haters (even the so-called "CCP style social justice warriors" you mentioned can be labelled as such).

Go on Weibo to see for yourself. The people criticizing this drama actually do acknowledge that they didn't even watch FOMH. They are basing their hatred on lots of false claims or on narrative arcs that were in the book but not in the drama.

As for the govt agencies commenting on the fire extinguisher thing, they did so after c-netz loudly complained about it

I acknowledge that the drama was a misfire (pun intended). It was just not great. But truly, people are just blindly hating on it.

If you were called a hater for disliking the main actors' acting or for liking the brother's character, then that was totally uncalled for. I myself quite liked MYC as I saw him in the same light as his sister (an abused kid).

But when it comes to WDX's cut scene, we don’t really know what happened so blaming the production team or the main actor is also unfair

So I've got 2 questions: was yan chen in love with xu qin? Or was it some kind of obsession to be in cave together(…
1) I also saw it as co-dependency rather than love
2) The college girl? She's not genuine - they won't end up together

Just my 2 cents regarding c-netizens' comments, and please people don't fall for their so-called "unbiased" opinion. I have been on Weibo (and also saw some of their comments on other platforms), and even passerbys are being truly unfair (and vile at times) towards YY and WCR

1) Ok, WDX's character gained public favor. Wouldn't be the 1st time that a supporting character outshines the male lead. But why pit the two characters against each other? Why compare them? Also, please note that they laud the brother's character mainly for being rich and broody... Kinda superficial to me

2) these passerbys didn't even watch the show... They blame Xu Qin for being unfilial, and yet, the only reason she didn’t want to leave her family was out of respect/gratitude/love towards her parents. It had nothing to do with money...
And is it wrong of the producer/manager to defend the lead actor? And is it wrong for the author to defend her work? She wrote the Meng family as toxic, so no wonder she's surprised to see people siding with the very negative aspects of society those same people keep complaining about!

3) As far as I know, only one WDX's scene was cut. Firstly, this scene made his character look like a creep. Secondly, people started shipping the SIBLINGS together... I mean, if that was not my intent as the producer/director/scriptwriter, I would have cut it too.
And regarding YY's stake in the company, some said he owns 30% of shares, others 2-3%. Both sides shared "proof" supporting their claim, so hard to know where lies the truth.
As for YY's cut scenes, once again, these commenters picked and chose what fit their agenda. YY actually complained about cut scenes that would help the audience better understand Song Yan and Xu Qin's backstory... The very thing that c-netz complained about was the fact that they didn't understand their love towards each other so guess YY was right here.

4) I guess I understand C-netizens' stance here. Plagiarism is a big issue that should be tackled, but I fail to see how it's related to the actors

5) Commenters are being "empty brained" here. They ALWAYS carefully pick things that WCR did out of context to mislead people. How vile and disgusting of them

As for the last round of their comments:
- "Chinese netizens hate big capitals", and yet these "passerbys" worship the Meng family... Kinda contradictory

It's fine to criticize a show (after all, we are the audience), but why go so far as to destroy a person's career and life?
So far, I have seen them FALSELY claiming that WCR stole her friend's name, that she called a lady a witch (this lady turned out to be a scammer but people still believe her), that she rolled her eyes at her colleagues/seniors (they took some of her drama scenes -even from COSTUME DRAMA Royal feast🤣- out of context where she rolls her eyes and have labelled her as rude, etc.)

I get the general sentiment of people wanting to see quality content and talented people on TV, but they are going too far this time

Crazy, right?

Check out the concept of yxh (yingxiaohao). Many believe that yxh are the main force driving this hate campaign.

Also, I read in this very comment section that Yang Yang and Wang Chu Ran were already being targeted even before the drama started airing. But as the drama started getting criticized, the budding hate got some traction and passerbys (so-called "neutral" watchers) got into it and would pit Yang Yang against Wei Da Xun (they kinda reframed it as a "David vs Goliath" sort of a thing with WDX being the underdog who the watchers rooted for)

Trolls and haters are basically review-bombing the drama on Douban (think of it as the Chinese IMDB), giving it a poor rating because:

1. They claim they hated the drama (but for having read some of their comments, it's obvious that lots of them didn’t even watch it lol) because of its unlikeable characters (seems like they disliked ML and FL trying to distance themselves from FL's toxic family), unrealistic medical scenes (they chastised the FL for taking a drastic decision during an actual earthquake lol), a scene that had the ML teaching the FL how to use a fire extinguisher, and what they saw as bad acting (lots of scenes trended on their local SNS where they removed the context of the scenes on purpose to make fun of Yang Yang)

2. They fell in love with the FL's brother and felt he should have gotten more screentime (and the girl) and was more deserving than the ML (because a broody and rich CEO is always better than a principled firefighter lmao). They even created a ruckus online when they found out one of his scenes was deleted (ML and FL got LOTS of deleted scenes mind you...)

3. They felt the show didn't promote good values (FL is unfilial for trying to break away from her abusive family...), FL is not feminist for wanting to fight for the love of her life

4. They were unhappy that their hate comments were allegedly blocked/deleted by the FOMH team

5. I don’t know how this factors in, but seems like they are also unhappy about the dating rumors linking the two leads?

For some, I think they just have too much time on their hands and hate in their hearts, and for the others, I think they are deliberately targeting YY and WCR on purpose (at whose behest I wonder...)

Hard to explain... It seems like part of the Chinese "audience" (using "" because these are mostly trolls who didn’t even watch the show) is super unhappy about the drama. While some of the general criticism may be valid (poor characterisations, tropey drama, etc.), it is generally overblown and misguided. Why am I saying it is overblown? Because it seems they forgot this drama was not a docuseries and, while aiming at celebrating firefighters and doctors, it is first and foremost a source of entertainment. Why misguided? Because they are blaming the actors for the scriptwriter and director's failings.

As to why they dislike the FL, from what I read online, C-netizens are unhappy that her character is "unfilial" to her abusive parents, that she doesn't reciprocate her brother's incestuous feelings, that she's "love brain" because she's pursuing her one and only love (who is the one person who gave her the will to live). They also were unhappy with some medical scenes which they found unrealistic.

Anyway, for some reason, they decided to direct their hate towards the 2 lead actors and are now harassing them online and boycotting the lead actress' endorsements/dramas
