I completely forgot about that one ! Good catch ! The fact that she continuously enabled her daughter's toxic behavior definitely helped in shaping Aunt Kang into a ruthless monster. She was also very manipulative and patronizing.

Hahaha true! If we didn't know better, we would think Ming Lan and her grandma share the same blood and DNA !
Btw, who was the character you hated the most in the series ?

In fact, his background is the very reason why I cannot tolerate his attitude. From what I could gather, this guy experienced trauma and harsh living conditions during his youth just because of his father favoring one concubine over the other women of his harem. And yet, this fool has repeated the same pattern in his own household.

Probably an unpopular opinion lol. My votes go to...1. Ming Lan's father : enabling piece of sh*t who caused some of the most tragic events in the series (the demise of Ming Lan's mother, the poisoning case) due to his constant favoritism towards his 1st concubine and his total disregard for/neglect of his legitimate wife and 2nd concubine. His few interactions with Ming Lan were really sad to see because one could feel how much she longed for his affection, while he visibly couldn't care less (although I have to acknowledge that he does love his kids). I was so happy when the FL finally gave him a piece of her mind in episode 65. 2. The Empress Dowager : annoying as f*ck. Unlike other negative characters in the series, her wrongdoings and shameless plotting did not stem from any apparent trauma. Overall, I'd say her motivations did not justify the level of evilness she ended up displaying in the show. Actually, her character's ending was the only lowpoint of the series for me. I wish she'd been more severely punished to pay for her crimes. She got off way too lighly...
