Yes in the book Bi Zhi is an awesome warrior protecting the common people. People start to join his cause and his army grows. He is the only opponent WS finds is his equal. His wife is supportive and protects her sister. It’s a shame what they did to his character in the drama.

Here’s what happens in the novel if anyone interested.

For those of you hurting over the ending, in the novel wei liang survives the ambush, but the xiao tao character does not exist. The mother in law actually turns bitter and crazy and kills herself as she hates xiao qiao so much and never gets over her loss of her son and husband. They have 2 kids, she gives birth to a son after Fei Fei. Her father’s eyesight is eventually cured. Da Qiao and her husband stand with Wei Shao and YueZhao all the way and get a happy ending. The rest pretty much happens as in the drama but no favourite character dies. It’s a much happier ending in the novel. In the novel there is a former life/alternative reality where Da Qiao actually marries wei shao, he did not love her and takes lady yulou as a concubine who eventually kills da qiao to become empress. Wei shao is then killed by Bi zi who rebels with an army after WS becomes king. So the ending is different because he married a different sister.

There are a lot of sex scenes in the book 😂😂the ML falls for her very early on but it is she who doesn’t trust his feelings as he is all hot cold and doesnt know how to explain/express himself. He quickly gives her his heart and everything and needs her so much more than she needs him.

For those of you bothered by the sibling theme: in the book she was the ghost of LJX’s wife who took this body after the girl died in an accident so in her mind he was never her brother. For him, he also found out early on that she wasnt his biological sister which is a lot easier to digest. Also in the book, LJX kidnaps her for a year but doesn’t touch her, he finds out she’s pregnant and is there for the birth of the baby, he then sends her and the baby home which in my mind redeems him a lot. She was actually the ghost of his wife so makes more sense his joy of finding her again just to find she didnt love him anymore.

In the book he only became like that because she died.

In the book FL was only 11 at the start so they were like sister and brother until she turned 14 and he found out they were not related. With SML she actually was his wife who was murdered and her spirit went into this body that was dying. 10 years had passed in her new body thats y she didnt love him anymore and has grown up into a different person. She finally breaks downwhen he gets hurt for her at the end andcries as she feels shecant repay him. She begs for his life and he is spared. Up until then she is completely cold to him

That’s actually the alternate ending in the book😂 he finds her 5 years after she falls down from the cliff still alive, she was pregnant when falling down and their son was 5 years old. They then make up and live happily ever after
