I've found a few gems by targeting the low rated ones. LOL. Currently watching Love and Sword, and just a couple of episodes in but it's very fun so far.
And ROTFL, now MDL has changed the drama title from Inhumane Atrocities to 'Germ Warfare Units'. WTF - hahahaha. 30 seconds of research would show you what the drama's actual English title is. :)

It's not even really about binging, it's just that in order to be able to write about C-dramas like I know what I'm talking about :) I have to have watched a decent percentage of each one (don't always finish them, although I do finish most). And if I don't watch most episodes as fast as I can, I forget what I'm watching and never end up going back to them :)

I lived in Bangkok for many years and have visited Kanchanaburi the site of part of the infamous Death Railway (aka Burma Railway) many times.
The museums there show some of the horrific things the Japanese did. Tens of thousands of Thais alone were killed, and hundreds of thousands more Vietnamese, Burmese, Malaysians, Singaporeans, British, French and on and on were murdered.
When you throw in the millions of South East Asians the Japanese murdered in just the 3 years they occupied parts of S.E. Asia, and it's amazing to me that most of S.E. Asia still has a cordial relationship with Japan. Especially as it took the Japanese decades to even apologize and, in some instances, has never apologized.
Look at the Korean and Chinese comfort women they kidnapped, the death marches, the massacres of hundreds of thousands in just a few days. Up to 10 million S.E. Asians murdered in just over 3 years.
It's no wonder the Chinese are often in some kind of diplomatic argument with them (currently in one now). They were treated horrifically for years, with millions of Chinese murdered by them and, to this day, the Japanese response has been abysmal.
A fascinating subject and, as much as I like the Japanese and am fascinated by Japan, I take the Chinese side on this.

Yep. The fan translations ARE much better, but they will also be slower as few fans have the free time available to properly translate 20 episodes of a drama right after they release. But, as a second option, they're better than nothing :)
And I'm the same. Basic Chinese (probably much worse than yours :), so that knowledge is filling in some of the gaps of the YOUKU translation, but my skills aren't enough to understand a full drama without them :)

Yep, they should pay to get decent translations but, as of yet because the international audiences are much, much smaller than Chinese, they won't.
If everyone watches the legal options, though, and Chinese companies start to make huge amounts of money from international viewers, that's when we will eventually get better translations. Same in anime, when we also used to get garbage translations years ago. But now the Japanese make so much money from international viewers, they don't dare to provide garbage translations as the backlash is huge :)
At least with the fan translations, though, they ARE using legal streaming via YOUKU's YouTube channel so that's good.
For me, though, I have so many dramas ongoing for my job I need to finish series pretty fast so I can move onto the next one, so waiting a couple of months for a fan translation isn't usually an option. Just gets too confusing with too many series on the go (I have enough as it is, LOL). As long as the translation YOUKU is offering is understandable, and not like the auto-translate dross Google provides, I'm good. (I also understand basic Chinese, so can fill in the gaps with my own knowledge)

I watched the first episode and it's actually not a bad AI translation (nowhere near as bad as the auto-translation Google provides). The story and dialogue is completely understandable.
But sure, fan translations are usually better, especially as they also translate the Chinese on letters/army notices/signs etc which YOUKU never does.

Sorry, for my multiple posts, but I think this one is a very important drama for people to watch if you can stand the tragedy of it all, as so much of the Japanese atrocities against the Chinese are brushed under the carpet by the international community, and with the Japanese often not even apologizing for the terrible things they did.

They're not perfect, but they're very understandable so it's at least watchable right now. And yes, the drama is excellent. Superb performances so far.

So excited about this one. Literally waiting for the 51 minutes to pass so it premieres :) Watched the trailers, looks super fun and funny, and has a superb cast.

Personally, if I see a drama rated under an 8.0 on MDL, I presume it's a good one. So many trolls on this site downrating dramas they're not even watching, I tend to avoid the very highly rated ones (pushed up by fan girls obsessing over the idol actor usually) and watch the lower rated ones. Am rarely disappointed :) Just added this one to my Must Watch list :)

A sizeable number of people the world over are morons. They watch a drama about a specific subject or a specific behavior of a character and then attack the screenwriter. The whole point is it's a STORY, and if everyone in the drama was perfect and perfectly behaved, there would be NO story.
Or, like this one, they downrate a drama simply because of the so-called "age gap" between the two main characters. Downrate it when they're not even WATCHING the damn thing (which is excellent, btw).
Honestly, the older I get, the more I detest a sizeable amount of the population. Idiots doesn't even describe their mental capacity.
Hasn't been named as Season 4, but the folks I know in China tell me it's definitely Season 4, or more accurately, a sort of 'bridge' between Season 3 and Season 5, which is supposedly in production.

I write about anime/donghua, Cdrama/Kdrama and I'm always frustrated with anime trailers in particular as, unlike the Chinese/Koreans who more often than not DO include English subs on their trailers (at least many of the ones I write about), the Japanese rarely do. (Kind of arrogant, IMO, that they want international viewers money, but aren't willing to spend $30 to get an anime trailer subbed in a couple of languages, especially when trailers for western shows in Japan always have Japanese subtitles, but that's just my opinion :)
I do understand some Chinese, but ZERO Japanese, and it's annoying to have to use auto-translate, only for it to translate about 20% of what's being said, and usually 30 seconds AFTER the character has finished speaking :) That's how I know it's shit most of the time :)
