A big reason I dropped my iQIYI subscription a couple of months ago. This is now about the 7th drama I wanted to watch this year, and either had to watch it on YouTube (and pay extra if I wanted episodes in a timely manner) or watch it on a pirate site.
I chose to sail the high seas, as I refuse to give iQIYI more money when, even with a subscription, which is the most expensive of the Big 3, half their dramas aren't available in Europe. Or in the U.S., when I'm there. And no, The Hunt isn't available here in Austria either.
Bizarre too as, both YOUKU and WeTV (I subscribe to both) RARELY have dramas not available. iQIYI really is the red-headed stepchild :)
I’m caught up and you’re gonna have a roaringly good time
Yep. I think I am. Thanks :) Midway thru Episode 2 and it's SOOOOO entertaining so far :)
Also loved that Wang Cheng Si took such a tiny cameo role in the opening scenes of Ep 1. Could just imagine him grinning all the time about what a fun time he was going to have with that one scene :) (Loved him flipping around in the air -- so different from what he normally does :)
Ye Gods, I haven't even started watching the drama yet -- just watched its opening intro and that has to be one of the most EPIC intros I've seen in a Chinese drama in a while. REALLY makes you think "Damn, this one is going to be exciting". :) Now off to watch the actual first episode!
EDIT: Now 15 mins in, and I was sold the minute both Chang Long and Wang Cheng Si (in a cameo role) showed up. Two of my favorite Chinese actors, along with a superb main cast.
Sooooo excited for this one - has comedic vibes of A Dream Within a Dream so far, which I loved.
Just started this, but the first episode is much better than I expected. The cast is also one of the better casts I've seen in an historical romance drama. Looking forward to seeing where this one goes.
Hey! I'm so glad you've commented recently bc I'm just discovering this story tbhYou claim to be a professional…
Superfan? No. I've watched him in a couple of dramas. He's a good actor. He's also young enough to be my son. So, no, not a superfan :)
I just know what are reputable news sources and what are not, and all of the so-called sources "proving" these disgusting allegations are either trash "journalists" writing garbage for clicks (I have a feeling they will all be sued into oblivion by the time the Chinese government has finished) or are written by unhinged anti-fans.
Tonboriday, for instance, is the garbage Indonesian site spreading the rumor about "15 tickets". That site uses AI-generated articles that barely even make sense with click-bait headlines to pull in the unwary. It has been pushing this disgusting garbage for weeks, just to make money off someone's death. Hopefully those people will eventually get the karma they deserve.
Meanwhile, I have the site blocked on every one of my searches as it's dangerous trash masquerading as "news". Eventually it will get shut down, IMO.
Another is India Times/aka The Economic Times -- another junk site masquerading as "journalism", and a site that always used to be in the #1 spot in every Google search until even Google realized it was literal trash.
I've even had one idiot tell me "the BBC are reporting about Fan Shi Qi". No, they weren't. They reported about the Chinese government going after these mentally unstable people, suing them and, hopefully, putting them in jail for spreading slander. Good.
And, if you look at the so-called "video evidence" anyone that knows anything about AI knows they are all AI-generated. It doesn't take that much experience with AI to figure it out actually. Only the stupid and the eternally nasty seem to be fooled.
All of this vile behavior towards Fan Shi Qi is basically hysteria that has overtaken a bunch of drama "fans" with sad little lives, and they're now feeding on each other. Absolutely disgusting. But it's to be expected in the 'drama community', which seems to harbor far more people that are mentally unwell than is normal.
It's the same kind of behavior from lunatic "fans" that we often see in the K-drama community. Behavior that has pushed a number of actors to their suicide as these "fans" feed each other into a crazed frenzy.
I can't even express how much I detest these people.
So, I just block anyone on any site pushing this disgusting narrative and trying to end an actor's career (and possibly his actual life) over something he wasn't remotely involved in. Life's too short to feed into poisonous people with evil minds.
Meanwhile, I'm playing Fan Shi Qi's albums on Spotify on repeat :) Because every little bit of support for someone who is being targeted by a crazed mob of lunatics helps :)
It's decent. Both Mao Zi Jun and Eddy Geng give excellent performances, and there's definite chemistry between them that's believable. So it's not the bromance that's the problem, it's the script. It just goes on and on and on -- honestly, IMO, the entire plot could have been wrapped up in Season 1 (which was a fun watch) instead of dragging it out for 48 episodes.
BTW, I'm only on Ep 6 of Season 2 so it could improve. I'm just finding it a struggle to want to continue watching it.
Trying to watch Season 2 but VERY draggy and silly. An interesting twist on historical events but, honestly, wish I hadn't started watching it. Then wouldn't feel the need to finish both seasons :)
wow, i thought 2x is the max speed we can have on our system. I guess you ain't happy with #25 either!
WeTV has always had up to 3x on their app. First time I've ever actually used it as I usually watch dramas on 1.25 as, according to WeTV/YOUKU/iQIYI, do most Chinese :)
Don't know about Ep 25. Haven't watched it yet. Too busy.
Wow, they stretched out Episode 24 with "flashbacks" to previous scenes for about 10 minutes, just to make the episode 21 minutes long. Guess Tencent needed more money from advertisers.
Watched it on 3x speed. Will be VERY happy when Ep 25 drops tomorrow. One of most unsatisfying short dramas I've watched in a while, with some really stupid writing.
I can see why you said that because of how she tries to act like she doesn't care. I think she's at war with herself…
Yep, you're probably correct about her motivations. But, for a smart woman, she's acting incredibly stupidly. Hopefully, she'll figure it out :)
Honestly, I've thoroughly enjoyed the drama up until the last couple of episodes (even though I found the FL annoying in some scenes as she's so bull-headed).
The cinematography, sets etc have been excellent, and the performances of so many of the women in it (including Amy Sun who plays the FL) have been exceptional for a short drama. The plot is fast paced too, and fun.
Just hoping we get a satisfactory ending, and then I'll be complaining less about Wei Xiao :)
Definitely entertaining, but a bit garbage-y that becomes progressively worse the more episodes are released. The last 3 episodes are laughably bad. Would still recommend though. Sure the FL and her sidekick are annoying, but its very nicely filmed, the plot is interesting, and it passed the time without me wanting to throw a brick through my screen :)

Actors did a superb job, loved the cinematography/sets etc. But the PLOT. What the hell?????
