This was beautifully done throughout, until that ridiculously unbelievable ending. An ending, apparently, created by AI instead of the actual ending from the novel.
Would be nice if there was a Season 2, as there are so many things you could do with this. If it stands with just one season, though, it will go down in C-drama history as a travesty -- a drama that could have been phenomenal, but that was spoiled due to some executives' stupidity in thinking AI could "write a better ending".
Overall, an 8 out of 10, but it could have been a 10. (And btw, Song Zu Er did brilliantly in this - an actress with some of the best ugly crying scenes I've ever seen. Loved her).
i kinda hope the FML could be a bit stronger, instead of being a damsel in distress :/
That's why I'm stuck on Ep 19 and not likely to continue until it ends and I see how it ends.
She's weak and pathetic through most of the drama, and has ZERO interest in changing. Sick of her putting Sima Jiao in jeopardy and not even caring as long as she is okay. After loving her in the first 10 episodes or so, she's become my most despised FL of recent months as there's NO character growth.
Hoping she improves (hence, why I'm reading the comments but, so far it seems, not so much) as, if not, I'll be eternally stuck at Ep 19 with no interest in continuing :)
And btw, not talking about the actress, she's superb in the part. Just don't like the FL.
Got meh at Ep 18 for me as the FL still shows no sign of any character growth. Struggling to care or to continue.…
Yep. Didn't they just! :) And apparently the modern world segment isn't in the original novel. Just added in the drama due to Chinese censorship. Ugh.
Currently have it on hold, although I really like Arthur Chen's performance as Sima Jiao, and may get back to it at some point depending on what people are saying about the ending. But right now... finishing up The Demon Hunter's Romance. A more interesting female character with some actual development :)

For everyone asking about the 40 episodes, I'm guessing it's a mistake on MDL's part. I've been following the drama for a while on Chinese media and, as far as I remember, it's always been listed as 33 episodes.
So no, it's definitely not 40 episodes. Only MDL has it listed with that number.
it will go up but douban isn’t a source people tend to care bout.
Douban is actually very important in China. It's perceived to be one of the most reputable platforms, as much more difficult to manipulate, and for directors, actors, and producers it's like a badge of honor to be associated with a drama with a high Douban score -- so highly prized.
A low score on Douban (below a 6.0) is also a sign of a drama to avoid.
Personally, I'm tiring of When Destiny Brings the Demon as the FL never changes -- she's funny, but stupid and ignorant and weak and with zero character development. At least thru Ep 18 where I currently am. She's also constantly almost getting Sima Jiao killed as she's just such an idiot.
She was funny and endearing at first, but with zero character development, she needs a good slap.
So it's easy to see why the Douban score is so low.
This is nowhere near as bad as some people are saying.Sure, Episode 1 was a bit slow, but Episode 2 was much better…
It really isn't. Not the best thing I've ever watched but not the worst either. Will be watching Ep 2 later on tonight and then waiting to see if Ep 3 improves it. Overall, it's an entertaining enough watch.
ROTFL. I know. All these pro-Hamas brain-washed idiots are all the same. Lied to about a so-called "geno" by a terrorist organization that they're so stupid they actually believe, and then they waste their finite life spewing lies supporting said terrorist organization.
They're the laughing stock of the world, as the world is sick to effing death of their idiocy, and they're so stupid they don't understand that. :)
Blocked. You're a Hamas brain-washed moron. Must be amazing going through life believing the lies of an actual terrorist organization that would kill you before they'd even look at you. How stupid are you?
Would be nice, if you read the case properly and then made your conclusion. He is loved by South Koreans for a…
They never do. These types of people prefer to go through life ignorant and stupid rather than actually educate themselves about reality, just so they can continue to spread their hate.
I just block and move on as life's too short to waste a second of it on fools :)

Come on, you can't expect anyone to read the facts and actually understand a legal case before spreading hate. :)
(It's the Internet. Idiots spreading lies rather than educating themselves about the truth).
The truth: Lee Jin Wook was slandered by a woman who seems to have severe mental health issues, or just wanted money, and she was proven to be a liar due to a huge amount of evidence that eventually proved she had "malicious intent" with her claim against him, and so she was charged, convicted and jailed.
Hell, even HER lawyer withdrew from the case because HE knew she was lying and didn't want to defend her anymore.
The start is slow but I feel almost all supernatural, fantasy dramas start like this, with the villain's entry,…
Yep. I thought the first few episodes of The Uncanny Counter (similar plot) were boring, but then it took off and was excellent. Looking forward to starting this.
It started off so well, but just went round and round in circles with the same scenario and same outcome for 26 episodes. Really disintegrated after Ep22. And that sudden ending and the "twist" was ridiculously unbelievable. Oh and the grandmother is an idiot. :)
Anyway. Decent performances, nice cinematography, costumes and sets. And an entertaining enough drama if you can stand the repetitive plot. Now....Moving on :)
No,. It's just the usual idiots downrating a drama they watched 3 minutes of, and MDL (who has zero reputation left when it comes to ratings) allowing it.
Just laughing at how idiotic MDL has now become as it allows trolls to download a drama they're obviously not even watching. Again, NEVER believe ratings on MDL. It's one of the most disreputable sites for ratings nowadays. Sadly.

The first episode is superb, and the cinematography is gorgeous.
