They've been doing a huge amount of promotion in China. And it's paying off so far.
You must have missed it. It's all over Weibo and other Chinese sites. This is one of YOUKU's most promising dramas of the summer, and they've spent the money to promote it accordingly.
5 episodes in. Not a huge amount of things have happened, yet it's so bloody good. Absolutely obsessed, and I rarely get addicted to C-dramas, I've watched soooo many of them.
The main leads are brilliant though, the entire cast is excellent, the CGI (especially the snake) is superb, and the drama hasn't had a dull second yet. Despite it taking 5 episodes for Sima Jiao to escape his prison.
I'm currently all in for this going forward. It's so fun :)
I have been noticing for a while that many toxic fans have entered cdrama community where they specifically come…
If MDL actually spent an hour a day deleting these reviews/ratings, they could stop it. But they refuse to. Hence why MDL now has a reputation that's about as reputable as IMDB. ie: Garbage.
For future viewers, please ignore the rating and give the drama a try. If you liked a dream within a dream or…
Anyone who understands what goes on on MDL -- ie: massive numbers of trolls downrating or uprating dramas they're not even watching -- should ignore MDL ratings, both good and bad.
The website administrators refuse to monitor the ratings, so we get this garbage. It's one reason why MDL's reputation is now so poor.
Hardly anything happens in the first two episodes, yet the pacing seems fast.
But... I've thoroughly enjoyed every second of this so far as it's quite unusual.
Arthur Chen is perfect as Sima Jiao (and I'm not a particular AC fan), especially as he's dubbing the character himself, and oddly, while some people said Wang Ying Lu was "over acting" in her part, I don't see that at all. I think she's brilliant so far.
Hopefully, it will continue in this vein throughout all 33 episodes, as this is incredibly fun. :)
A slightly disappointing ending, as the plot threads were wrapped up too quickly in the last 20 minutes, and we didn't get to see the long-awaited reunion between Ranran and her mother (crazy the writer would have avoided that, after it was the focus of the entire drama).
But the last 10 episodes were nowhere near as weak as some people said they were.
Overall, I thoroughly enjoyed the entire drama, as the performances were excellent -- right down to the smallest parts -- and the plot was well-written, very well-paced and gripping.
Happy to give it a 9/10, and would definitely watch a Season 2 if one heads our way.
Assuming ("biggest") fans of romance don't all think alike & in addition, I cannot read people's minds,…
Especially when the same person asks the same question literally 20 different times about the same drama. Those people are lucky I can't slap them through my computer screen :)
Hey guys, would we enjoy this drama even if we are not the biggest fan of stories who only revolve around romance
No way of telling, as it's personal preference. This was the drama I was looking forward to this month the most, and I couldn't get past Ep 1 as I hated everything about it, and thought Zhou Ye was severely miscast in this (and I'm generally a huge fan of hers) .
So... you may love it, you may hate it. Give it a try.
Boring. And very weak plot, writing and performances compared to The King's Avatar, which portrays the gaming world perfectly.
As a 20-year-plus gamer, this was poorly written by someone who researched the e-sports world for about 20 minutes, plus a very dull plot and mediocre performances. Dropped at Ep 2.
It is available on iQIYI in the USA. I see all 5 episodes.
Thanks. :) And very pleased about that, as this one seems a bit different than the C-dramas we usually get served. Big fan of Ou Hao and Yang Mi as well. :)

No, it's not. I'm currently in the U.S. and it's not showing up on any search on iQIYI. And when I go to the supposed page for it via Google search, it tells me "Not available in your region". Are you using a VPN?
Edit: Okay that's really weird. If I run a search for it or go to the This Thriving Land page when NOT logged into iQIYI, it tells me 'Not Available in your region'. If I search for it when I'm logged in, it pops up. Bizarre. But yep, you're correct. And yay :)
Interestingly, as it appears iQIYI continues to scam viewers for money, it's not available on iQIYI International in the U.S.
You CAN, however, watch it on iQIYI's YouTube channel. So, in other words, if you've paid for an iQIYI subscription, you can't watch this. But you CAN pay again to watch it on their YouTube channel.
It's not streaming on iQIYI international. At least not yet, and not in America. So access to it will be limited unfortunately. A shame, as it looks a bit different than so many other C-dramas.
Edit: On iQIYI's YouTube channel, but I'm not paying extra money to watch it there.
I mean it basically it. The whole plot is about the fight between FL & her sister scheming against each other.…
Oh I'll likely still watch it to the end. I think it's just a pity we aren't getting more of the political intrigue involving the FL's husband. That would have made the entire drama more balanced, IMO.
I do appreciate the higher budget though. The cinematography, sets and costumes are just as good as so many even higher budget C-dramas.
And I'm happy Tencent seems to be producing more mini dramas that are superb quality, so I'll watch them where I can just to support that. It's great to know I'm occasionally not going to have to watch 40 much longer episodes just to get to the end of the plot. :)
Ep 13 skin mask... I am done. It was interesting at first, but the schemes reached an absurd level.
I'm giving it a couple more episodes but, yep, it's just become ridiculous, with still not much development in the plot at all. A real shame, as the first 12 episodes are really fun.
Edit: Ep 14 is much better than Ep 13 and did move the plot forward somewhat. Yay!
Odd, seeing as how only 8 episodes have been released :)
