Nan Heng actually says a line about "who's to say that your world isn't ALSO a storybook" so....
Yep, and he's probably correct.
And that's what I've been wondering right from the beginning. Like I said, that whole transmigration scene with not being able to close the window in a storm and then how everything folded in on itself seemed suspicious to me. We'll see :)
Once this is over, I also plan on rewatching the drama, as I have a feeling the screenwriter will have dropped many hints throughout (including that Nan Heng comment), and it will be interesting to find them once you know the ending :)
So apparently learning English and practicing a kissing scene is the funniest. Especially when you have a goof…
Hilarious :) Thanks!
And love the energy from these two. Every time I see them in interviews, both together or for separate projects, the energy they give off is of people who are just fun, sweet and incredibly nice and kind.
You can fake a lot, and actors do, but it's still difficult to fake your real personality. It always eventually comes through. And both of them seem to have such sweet personalities.
I watched the clip recently with LYN talking about having once been married, and upset that his "fans" had actually gone after his ex-wife. And you could tell, he couldn't care less about them going after him, as he knows that's part of his business, but he was absolutely furious that they'd gone after his ex- wife and her baby (not his child). And yet he still did it respectfully. Such a nice man.
Wondering why the drama is called "Dream within a dream" could it be a random girl is dreaming of her becoming…
That's what so many people seem to be missing, IMO. There's a reason for the title, and I have a feeling the real world may be an entirely different world than the current world she's in or the actress world. But, likely, with the same characters.
The whole scene where she transmigrates in Ep 1 is done so strangely, I've thought right from the beginning that there was something else going on. Will be interesting to see the outcome.
Just hope the screenwriter doesn't ruin what has been a spectacular drama from the beginning until now. :)
I loved it when the Emperor said "you've resented me". The absolute GALL to accuse him of resenting him when he…
Unfortunately, those types of people are everywhere. Desperate for attention for their lunacy. Thankfully, IMO, they are losing support as more people are realizing they're a danger to us all.
And yep, would have gone to the flight attendant if she'd kept going, but she just quietly sat there seething :) Did report the incident to the airline though, requesting them to monitor the pro-Palestinian lot more closely. Whether they will is yet to be seen.
the “story written by a modern author” in SOKP was put in there to pass censorship. the story is just about…
It's crazy the amount of control the Chinese government enforces on the country's dramas/films, isn't it? And that they're constantly changing their minds :)
I lived in Thailand for a decade and a half, and they also censored dramas/movies to some extent (guns and cigarettes always blurred out/some dramas not passing the censorship board at all/no negative mention of the royal family ever/no criticism of Buddhism etc), but it's nowhere near as bad as with the Chinese authorities.
Thailand also loosened up their censorship last year (finally!) as it began to be obvious it was doing nothing but stifle creativity, while making sure Thai IPs couldn't compete with those from other countries who don't censor. They've now realized there is a LOT of money to be made in dramas/films that hit the international market. LOL.
Must be frustrating making a drama in China, as a director, actor, writer etc though, as they have NO idea if what they create will "offend" someone on the licensing board that week :)
Then again, I do still hope censorship anywhere in Asia is NOT lifted to such an extent that Asian dramas/films end up like western IPs -- constant swearing, gratuitous sex scenes and far too much violence. I'd hate to see Chinese IPs disintegrate into that :)
the “story written by a modern author” in SOKP was put in there to pass censorship. the story is just about…
Sure it's two different genres, but the same writer and similar premise, so I expected better.
Adding the modern author to pass censorship makes sense though, as that aspect does not seem to fit the drama at all. Makes it seem shallow IMO.
Like I said though, will persevere for a few more episodes and see if my interest is piqued. I rarely drop dramas so, as long as it doesn't worsen :), I'll likely stick with it.
I remember watching it but it didn't leave any lingering impression.
I can see why. Every character so far is incredibly bland. Don't like any of the male leads, Bai Lu is bland in looks, personality and acting ability, but then I've found her that way in most things I've watched her in. And the whole thing is draggy -- at least through Ep3.
I found the first 4 eps of ADWAD slow, but at least the last 15 minutes of Ep1 was funny and really beautifully written, and Eps 2 thru 4 held my attention through at least half of each episode. So far, SKP doesn't even have that, it's just dull.
8.5 is really low, in my opinion this is so far liu yunings best drama
It's also a much better drama than the screenwriter's other work -- Story of Kunning Palace -- at least so far (I'm on Ep 3 of SKP). I just can't get into that one at all. And that is rated an 8.7.
The screenwriter does seem to have a problem with getting her viewers interested in her story in the first few episodes, though, as it was the same for me with ADWAD, although not as bad as with SKP, which I find supremely uninteresting so far.
And I think that definitely causes some people to either drop it, or rate it lower due to the annoyance.
Interesting that screenwriter Ren Zhuang Liu seems to be a one-trick pony.
Just started watching Story of Kunning Palace (boring AF so far) and, yet again, it's about someone resurrecting/transmigrating and trying to change their life in a "story" written by a modern-day author.
I'd say from what I've watched so far, the writer has done a much better job with A Dream Within a Dream than Story of Kunning Palace (watching Ep 3, don't care about anyone in it, and nothing about it is holding my attention) as, even though the first four episodes of A Dream Within a Dream aren't particularly great, they are at least more interesting than the first episodes of SKP.
Will persevere for a few more episodes. Just disappointed that a drama that gets rave reviews is this dull so far. Then again, I'm not a Bai Lu fan (don't care about her one way or the other, just think she's bland), so that might also be tainting my interest in SKP. We'll see...
Is this the first Cdrama to confirm release date 3 weeks before the release ???
It was supposed to release on July 12th. They even released a poster yesterday celebrating its 1 million reservations and mentioned that premiere date. Then... the schedule got changed, so they're stuck with it now being 3 weeks before it drops.
I loved it when the Emperor said "you've resented me". The absolute GALL to accuse him of resenting him when he…
Nothing. I just politely responded to her "And people like you are why I'm no longer left-wing. You're unhinged and a danger to everyone. And yet you think you're the good guy".
Then turned away from her, smiled at the woman I had been talking to who raised her eyebrows about the third woman, and went back to reading my book :) She sat scowling for the rest of the flight, but couldn't get at me as there was someone sitting in between us :)
Didn't even look at her as I got my bag and got off the plane. Why give these lunatics more attention than they deserve :)
But.. I do think it's time airlines stopped people wearing keffiyehs or Pro-Palestinian insignia from boarding planes. They're a danger to the entire plane, IMO.
I was CRINGING so hard that I almost looked away from the scene, and hence, didn't quite catch anything, LMAO.…
Same. It was so cringe (it was obviously meant to be :), and I could just feel his embarrassment :) Of course, I rewound it and watched it about 4 times as I laughed so much :)
And was it just me who could FEEL the embarrassment OOZING out of every one of Liu Yu Ning's pores as he had to ride that flying horse :) Laughed so hard when that scene appeared.
I loved Fugui and NH scene on rain...That music damn..Whole point of drama was in it! 😻
Fu Gui has been a pretty useless character up until now. Funny, and Wang Cheng Si is always brilliant with every character he plays, but mostly useless as he acts as Nan Heng's sidekick.
So it was fabulous to see him having the answer to Nan Heng's dilemma. Sometimes simple people just see the world the correct way. Without all the complications that cloud more intelligent people's judgements :)
I loved it when the Emperor said "you've resented me". The absolute GALL to accuse him of resenting him when he…
Same. And same on the Pro-Palestinian lot. Lunatics on the wrong side of history and, IMO, incredibly dangerous people.
Got screamed at by a girl sitting two seats over from me on a plane back to Europe recently. I was talking to the woman next to me about Israel (she disagreed with me but politely listened and responded) and was not even talking to the other woman who was eavesdropping on the conversation.
The other one, who was, of course, wearing the required Palestinian keffiyeh even though she was Belgian, decided suddenly screaming "SHUT UP. SHUT UP. SHUT UP" to a total stranger ON A PLANE because she disagreed with my opinion of Israel but, of course, didn't have any facts to back up her disagreement, was the correct and, apparently, safe thing to do.
It was at that point I realized my assessment of most of the Pro-Palestinian lot being close to terrorists themselves was correct.
Because, if you're willing to put the safety of everyone ON A PLANE at risk because your hatred of Jews and Israel has caused your broken brain to lose all reason, there's no helping you.
And that, sadly, is a huge percentage of those people.
And that's what I've been wondering right from the beginning. Like I said, that whole transmigration scene with not being able to close the window in a storm and then how everything folded in on itself seemed suspicious to me. We'll see :)

I have a feeling though that the two camps could end up closer together if the ending goes the way I think it might :) We'll know tomorrow.

NH: Not really.
Hahahahahaha - oh this scene looks fabulous :) Thanks for the link!
Just about everything about the original script has changed, but she seems to have missed that completely, and is still stuck on the old events.
Although... she was as dumb as a rock in the production meeting in Episode 1, so maybe that's to be expected :)
Like I said though, brilliant actress giving a superb performance.
