I just don’t get it Why is it so difference from novel and drama they never follow the novel plot ,
So many Chinese screenwriters do this, and destroy the original story because of it. How many sad endings have we had recently based on books that actually had a happy ending???
Don't understand it, as it does nothing but piss of the fans (Chinese and international) who were looking forward to seeing the original story.
Shes been married a few months and the brother is already 30yrs ? 🤣 or why does he sound like that? I thought…
Was just thinking the same. He seems to have gone from a 10-year-old to a grown man in a few months. So much about this drama though is badly written and makes little sense. (Still loving it but, Ye Gods, the WRITING. hahahahaha
I'm sorry but the river scene where she falls into a foot of water at the edge of a river and ends up 90 feet down entangled in weeds and, instead of trying to get herself free from the weeds at her feet is uselessly grabbing at water above her head is the dumbest thing I've watched this week :)
Ye Gods, what's wrong with this writer?
Overall, this is NOT one of Liu Xue Yi's best dramas. At least writing-wise. HE is brilliant in it, but the plot is weak and the writing is worse. Keep hoping it will get better, but it's weakening with every episode.
But... at least they're finally out of the effing bamboo village :)
Honestly, still loving the drama because of LXY and MZY (an easy 9/10 for me right now) and not a chance I'll drop it, but such a shame so many Chinese writers go for the trope instead of actual originality.
Three episodes in, and it's excellent so far. And really nice to see Bai Yu in another drama. While I did not enjoy 'Guardian', his performance in it was superb. Easy to see why he's constantly up for one of China's Best Actor awards.
The FL's performance is also excellent, production values solid, nice sets and cinematography and the chemistry between the FL and two MLs is great. The first case is very well done, with some superb performances from the supporting cast, and the writing is focused and tight.
Stumbled across this on WeTV while looking for something else. Glad I clicked on it out of curiosity. Thoroughly enjoyable.
Episodes are short too, so an easy binge-watch.
EDIT: 15 episodes in and, while the drama is still good, it's a shame the FL has become a bit of an idiot.
I will never ever understand why so many Chinese dramas do this. Start out with a very strong female lead who then, 10 episodes in, turns out to be a weak fool. Annoying.
I don't mind people downvoted it because they didn't like it after watching it. What I can't stand are people…
There are so many stupid people that will watch half of the first episode then immediately rate it poorly. If you haven't watched a few episodes at least, there's no way you can judge if a drama is good or bad. Height of stupidity.
I’m the perfect target audience for this drama. I eat this stuff up every time 🤣🤣LXY and MZY has made…
The writing in the last couple of episodes has been pretty weak but, like you, I'm still eating this up. The ML and FL are fabulous together (superb acting on both their parts), and their chemistry looks like it will be fire when they finally get together :)
Why june 30?😠I am already swamped with princess' gambit , dream within dream and reborn . How can I possibly…
Don't even talk about it. I have 40 series on the go right now (C-dramas, anime, Chinese donghua) and it's killing me keeping up.
I have a 9 1/2 hour plane ride to the U.S. plus a 7 hour layoff at Newark airport coming up soon, and I'm thrilled as I should be able to clear at least 3 of the dramas I'm currently watching :)
Its 24 episodes....which is my No 1 reason to watch the drama. I believe dramas should not be more than 24 episodes…
It's likely to become the norm (hopefully) as my patience wears thin on almost every C-drama above 24-30 episodes.
Apparently Chinese drama fans are sick of these never-ending series as well, as the Chinese government has now banned long dramas from being made after so many people have complained -- and all due to too many production companies dragging the plot out for an extra 10 episodes just so they can make more money from advertisers and product placement.
The govt's rationale is, if the plot requires a huge number of episodes, then it gets 2 seasons with a year in between each one if possible. I'm all for it.
it’s okay, definitely ready for them to move on from the village though 💀
Same. I've seen that trope in 3 dramas recently, and it was tired in all of them. Plus, the characters who are back at court are far more interesting than the villagers :)
Like I said, still really enjoyed it as the main couple are fire, but moving on now please :)
Since I only watch this just now and I know it aired late last year, anyone here know how well the drama did when…
Neo was the one who deserved the awards out of everyone in this. The script is terrible, but he managed to at least resurrect his role and performed it brilliantly. Always does though :)
And no, I'm not a 'Neo fan girl'. I'm old enough to be his mother :)
hello 😊maybe this is off topic but have you also noticed that up until this year dramas had a max of 40 episodes…
CCP's new rules. And personally I think it's a good thing. Far too many dramas dragged out for 40-plus episodes, just so the production company can make more money from advertisers.
Chinese viewers have been complaining for forever that the dramas are too long, and they're sick to death of having to fast forward through so many useless scenes just because a production company is desperate to make more money.
I read recently most Chinese drama fans watch every drama on 1.25 or 1.50 speed, because they have too many episodes. And a huge percentage, something like 60% of viewers, never finish a full season.
Much better this way. No stopping a production company doing a second season if a drama is popular, but it at least stops them from shoving 10 hours of worthless scenes into a drama just to make money.

Still really enjoying it, and not bored once. Just wish the writing was better.
