Based on what the ml know (and not us as viewers): his enemy is Lu Wen. He only knows the fl as Lu Wen’s favorite concubine (and not her real identity). He started this crazy and complicated deception because he wanted to use her as bait. Now that Lu Wen has been pardoned, why is he still holding her instead of releasing her (he can’t do it because he is falling for her, and not because he views her as his enemy). She is no longer bait, which was his original plan to begin with. Now he keeps adding layers and layers of deceptions. The fl may turn on him, sure, but aside of her being mad/upset/heart-broken/feeling betrayed/hurt, he would not think that she would retaliate like a bandit. He doesn’t know her real identity.

Also, it’s true regarding LMT. She was like "I’m so upset!!!” but also her: «well, I did mistake him for my husband, and he is so good looking, am I ever going to find such another well made specimen.” They were so whipped hence why I didn’t feel the angst. lol

For sure, the fl was upset but the ml did not grovel at all and basically told her to get over it and that they should instead focus on their future. The truth came a few days after he completely lost control and proceeded to do the « deed » with her more than once, fully knowing that he was not her husband (he even blamed that on her). He then had the audacity to get mad and upset when she left him without saying goodbye. He then proceeded to send his spies to monitor her every move, while being sad, mad and crazy without her. And when he could no longer take the separation, he went after her and seduced her every chance he got. The fl had no chance against such an amourous and unpredictable ml. He was absolutely crazy about her and shameless. (I am not done reading the novel, I am at the part where he went after the fl with mariage in mind).
Due to censorship, they may tone down in the drama how flirtatious and shameless the ml was and how bent he was on seducing the fl. I think we may see more angst.

The ml is shameless in the novel, and is constantly trying to do the deed and frustrating the fl with his craziness. I cannot see this ml in the drama acting like the ml in the novel (partly due to censorship). I hope they will somewhat follow the novel because the ml can be so over the top and the fl does not know how to rein him in. Lol
