People posting comments on this series love to toss the words Pedophile or pedo (which is actually a prefix which means child or my favorite in Spanish it means fart) around like they actually know the meaning of the words. Please, you have the internet at your disposal, use it.
If you are going to label someone a sexual predator at least get the term correct:
1. Ephebophilia describes attraction to mid-to-late adolescents (approx. 15–19) 2. Hebephilia targets early puberty (11–14). 3. Pedophilia generally refers to attraction to prepubescent children (up to 10–11).
The tutor is not under any circumstances a Pedophile. Nor would I use any of the terms above to describe him.
...but
Calling someone a "groomer" or "pedophile" online without proof can lead to legal consequences, primarily through civil litigation but occasionally through criminal charges.
So, in other words, be careful tossing those words around at other users here who are sharing their opinions about a series.
For all of you who have their panties in a bunch and love the book/movie Call Me By Your Name. The main characters have a 7-year age difference: Elio Perlman is 17 years old, while Oliver is 24 years old. Love the Little House on the Prairie book/series how about Laura Ingels and Almonzo who began dating when she was 16 and he was 26. Bella and Edward from Twilight she was 17 and he is 100 years old. Brian and Justin from Queer as Folk, Brian was late 20's and Justin was 17.. Guardian, the great and lonely God, he is over 900 years old and she was a 19 year old high school student. These people are not groomers nor are they pedophiles.
Now keep in mind that in Japan the age of consent is 16, or 13-16 years old only if the age gap is within 5 years and the relationship is consensual. . Akira and the tutor are within 5 years. There was no grooming, no gifts or money exchanged for favors, it was consensual. The majority of you are using the term Pedophile wrong and most are shortening the word to pedo which actually is a prefix for the term child so you are calling the tutor a child, stop it. A Pedophile goes after children who are roughly 13 or younger. The tutor is not a Pedophile.
Akira is a person with very low self esteem and he was on the verge of suicide when the tutor came into his life and allowed him the space to finally open up. The tutor never lied and confessed to Akira that he was gay. There was no subterfuge on the tutor's part.
If the age gap makes you feel uncomfortable, then you have to ask yourself why. What is inside yourself that you have to project your beliefs onto others. There is a term: "Validation of Morality" where an individual will overreact to immoral characters to affirm their own strict moral standards. Judging another harshly makes one feel safer in their own morality.
I am not saying the tutor is immoral or a bad person, but a lot of you think he is and are trying to project your beliefs/puritanical morals onto others. Almost all wars are started due to someone thinking they have moral superiority and are more righteous then others.
As Oscar Wilde wrote: “Morality is simply the attitude we adopt towards people we personally dislike.”
I personally love this show and do not find the relationship between Akira and the tutor distasteful. I look forward to seeing how all characters work things out in the coming episodes.
I'm not even kidding now ,that old shit is a pedo at that time my baby Akira was a minor. die you old man. i hate…
"My Baby" seriously? Akira is neither a baby nor did you give birth to him. The tutor is not an old man. He is within 5 years of age to Akira and in Japan that makes it legal consent. The tutor is not a Pedophile.
On a side note, the word pedo is a prefix for the word child. So you are actually calling the tutor a child. Is it so hard to actually spell out the whole word.
u seem so triggered by anyone claiming its grooming... people are allowed opinions and so are u... it's not that…
As of June 2023, the age of sexual consent in Japan was raised to 16 years old from 13. While the baseline age is now 16, a person aged 13–15 can technically consent, but only if the partner is less than five years older.
The relationship was consensual and the age gap is not more than 5 years between them. Personally, I did not get any indication or intent of grooming from the tutor. Also, I saw no gifts were given or any type of financial arrangement. I did not see the tutor was isolating Akira or doing any of the typical ploys that groomers use to trick, coerce or manipulate their victims.
On a side note, I think the term "Triggered" is overused and just like now by you, used incorrectly. You are using it as a weapon to mock someone as "too sensitive" or to shut down conversations. The term Triggered was officially coined for PTSD patients and should not be used lightly.
So many ridiculous subplots when this series premise could have been so good just showing two people trying to raise their nephew together and showing their daily ups and downs while slowly falling in love with each other. But instead we got this stupid, inappropriate SML office/past college romance and a poorly written subplot about an abusive estranged father that comes back for insurance money. Also on a side note please put some pants on the FL, her skinny, bony legs are not something to be shown off, ever....and one more thing, seriously, they were in the hospital or someone got physically hurt in just about every episode, what was the point of that. This series is beyond saving at this point no matter how cute the ML and nephew are together.
Unfortunately, Episode 4 became a clear dividing line between what is redeemable and what is not. If Kelvin truly…
I do not think Kelvin killed Lalit, but still, the intention was to stop Lalit by any means possible and Kelvin after hitting Lalit on the back of the head was not concerned if Lalit was dead or alive on the floor. He is definitely showing all the signs of a psychopath and not a sociopath where his behavior could be due to some trauma . I am unsure I could ever care about Kelvin at this point, no matter the redemption arc, unless they discover he has a massive brain tumor that is causing his behavior which even then, that would still be a very poor story line/excuse to create for what has he done up to this point to get what he wants. I mean Kelvin is showing all the signs of a psychopath and there is no cure for that type of innate neurological behavior. Peat is outstanding as Kelvin and the rest of the cast is good too. I am definitely seated to see how this series plays out.
I must say Peat came prepared to eat this role and not leave any crumbs. He is spectacular as a villain. Kelvin is completely duplicitous and I am unsure if he really can have a redemption arc. I am curious to see how the next 6 episodes play out.
She has every right to be with whoever she likes, but atleast make it clear to ML. But she won’t do that because…
She does not have any right to be with whoever she likes, what she needs to do is give her nephew stability first before finding a boyfriend. The brother and sister only died within the last 2 months and the nephew should be the first priority for both uncle and aunt and they need to shower the nephew with love, stability and assurance that they are not going anywhere that no matter what they are there for the nephew. So far the FM has failed in all area's of parenting. ML should take nephew and go live in his own, newly renovated apartment and tell FM and his f'd up dad to go take a hike.
Seriously, they left their nephew with the father. I am done with this show. I could take all the stupid unnecessary story lines they have thrown in and the stupid unnecessary love triangle, but leaving the nephew with the father who has been gone for 20 years and is a complete stranger who was coming out of the bedroom after a break in, this is beyond a stupid, unfathomable story line. Aunt and Uncle should not be in charge of a child, totally irresponsible and all for what, so they can do a photo shoot together. Seeing nephew with the grandfather literally turns my stomach. To think this show could have been so good!
This series was unexpectedly good! It is not a series you can play in the background while doing other things, you have to pay attention and be patient. It was not perfect, but it was different and I really liked it a lot.
I totally respect your opinion! I actually loved all the couples for different reasons. For me, William and Izaya…
The show definitely could improve on the editing, of that we can agree upon. As much as I like Jobu, I was hoping for a Hiroya/Taehon connection, they seemed so well suited to each other. I was also hoping for a Huwei/Ryuki connection over Bomi, but that never happened either. Too much time was taken by William and Izaya and honestly, they did not deserve to be shown that much, they were boring with all their talk/talk/talk and having to reassure each other. Gads, Izaya getting all upset because William did not have an answer about where they will be in 5 or 10 years was ridiculous. Izaya really needs to chill and just enjoy the moment. The guy was super pushy in regards to his own agenda. Anyway, this season was okay, but I liked the 1st season a lot better. Here's hoping season 3 they can find total strangers, guys who have never met each other before and have no connections what so ever, that would bring back the freshness to the show. These couples who already knew each other from the past, that all felt too forced for me. I was not a fan. To end this reply to you on a high note, I LOVED Jobu's gorgeous mom and how supportive she is of her son, was a breath of fresh air.
I am on episode 7 and I am fed up with the William/Izaya show, they are super boring and honestly I feel no chemistry between them but these 7 episodes seem to revolve around their story. I sure wish this show did not have anyone knowing each other beforehand, it does not feel as fresh as the first season because of this twist (or was it a manipulation by Netflix) of the casting. Oh no, I just saw at the end of episode 7 my favorite guy Hiroya is leaving for a business trip. Not sure I will make it through all 15 episodes.
