My first foray into Chinese historical fantasy/wuxia drama. This was a revelation, such a rich, multi-layered and poignant tapestry of a show; wonderfully acted, Mark Chao is especially mesmerising.
This is my first lakorn, I was hesitant to watch Thai dramas because I've heard they can get crazy. This was good, I actually marathoned it, It wasn't bad at all, although there is a lot of screaming from the women and screeching at the tops of their voices. The story was simple and well acted, and I will venture to say that I will watch more Thai dramas from now on.
Chairman Jang is pure evil, and he's so matter of fact about it: "why don't you kill yourself and take the blame, I still have a lot to accomplish so I can't take responsibility; I'll make sure your daughter is well taken care of" ( this is him, a smooth 80 years old or so, talking to a man in his 60's) I can't even!! Loving this show so much!
this scriptwriter was determined to be cryptic through to the end! Wow, we have to give him or her points for consistency though. Unbelievably unsatisfying....
this was a breezy and fun watch, unexpectedly good. I do have one gripe though, the final episode wasn't as satisfying as I would like, just the way it was written was not that great in my opinion; however it's a great drama overall.
I loved the beginning and end of this drama, I mainly fast forwarded the middle. The OTP relationship and chemistry between the two actors was spot on and great to watch.
I love KSW and KSS but this show was so draggy and the lead actress being all wooden didn't help matters. The drama had so much potential but never managed to maximise on this. I watched the first 9 episodes over 6 months ago, put it on hold for another 6 months, then finally completed it with a lot of fast forwarding. I haven't the heart to drop any show that I start, I always feel so bad; but I almost dropped this drama it was so disappointing because it could have been quite good.
I've noticed that Korean movies (the ones that I've watched) never set up the scene very well, it seems like you're dumped in the middle of the story with no background, by the time you figure out what's going on, the movie's almost over and you're left feeling very let down. This movie gave me distinct "Secret Affair" vibes, wealthy versus working class, scapegoating, keeping money in the family etc. This movie was elegantly set up, but ultimately disappointing.
loved this, wonderfully grown up and subtly sexy. I've discovered a new actor to keep an eye on Jo Jung Suk, he's brilliant. I also love the way this drama addresses uncomfortable issues in an unapologetic manner. Reminds me of "It's Ok That's Love"
This drama delivers what it promises, so if you go in not expecting the usual rom com hijinks, you won't be disappointed. It was sweet, understated and thoughtful, I quite enjoyed it.
