At this point, I stopped speculating. I mean the line between brilliant and stupid was so thin. The drama would either be a masterpiece or simply a piece that wastes our time and mind depending on what's ahead. It's been 8 episodes and we kept circling in survival mode. No motive, no reason yet to shared. For that impossible to find Big Mouse and what he aimed by putting his hand on Dr. SEO's murder case. If in the 9-10 episode there's still no single reason and motive being told and we still ride this survival plot, I am not sure what's ahead. As a watcher, I am okay to hang on to it blindly. As a writer, I write my own story 😂. If I was the writer, I'll make Park Chang Ho the Big Mouse, sober! It's more interesting to make him a bad guy with a good cause. I mean, who said the male lead ought to be perfect morally? Because it doesn't make sense that PCH have such intelligence (though not all the time) when he was a lawyer with a low winning record himself. Except, he just trolling everyone. Sometimes act like a fool and sometimes show his true nature. Making him an anti-hero will make more sense.

Fan Bing Bing lol 🤣😍 they could cast any other actor, instead they go for the A class which is terrific! I barely gave rating pass to 9, yet 9.5 for this one.
The story is compelling, the characters are intriguing, Kim Yo Han's character development from a naive boy to meticulous-clever-calculating man was made sense and carefully executed step by step.
The writer also smoothly prepared plethora of material for the potential second season. From his dad case, Jan Seon Oh, and the last NIS. And those are not presented in a rush, for they planned it many episodes before and made us think when did the card will be used and the moment it unraveled till the end, it make me thirst for the second season. The story will change, the set will change, but I definitely sense something incredible in it.
I love how MJY slithering away from the judgment as he was always the foolish one in the story for playing the game everyone left behind. Finally, for the first time in forever he makes a smart move 🤣.
I love the strength of the CEO Oh and Jang Seon Oh dynamic character. Most importantly, I love the fact that the writer spent time to think about the story till the end and not make it confusingly half-good half-bad. ❤❤❤❤❤❤

Ah, a well-thought story requires a viewer that able and want to invest their time and energy to think through it then connect the dots without the writer need to feed it directly. I took 0.5 from the perfection for personal reason like unfavorable color grading and I expecting more clear punch for when he was in the prison. And those were personal desire and I got the logic why he ought to act that way.

At that moment when she crying Emperor not favoring her, and she also already had a lot other hardships, was bullied…
Well said! Ask ourselves, which one more significant, the feeling when we lost our pet (or our loved one) or when we got an unfortunate news that our high school classmate we didn't see for couple years lose her entire family.
I have no right to generalized y'all opinion, but on my case, it would be the time I lose my cat. Yet tho I feel sorry for what happened to my HS classmate and may try to do things I can to help, I couldn't deny the fact that losing my cat gave me more pain. Because pain is equal though the reason may not.

I could say there's a lot of over-acting here, especially the actress that played Jo Hyeon.
The story wasn't necessarily bad, it actually quite good and bearable. It just the over-act, the excessive use of curse that not in its place thus cause more cringe than the actual tense it means to build, and the bad, very bad mandarin for one supposed to be 'living in china' for most of their lives, but speaking very fluent korean out of nowhere.
In the first 30 minutes, I was reminded of my middle school me proudly show off my ridiculous over portion story to everyone at school.
Except for Jo Hyeon and so called 'the doll from Shanghai' that speak broken Mandarin, everyone seems well casted. Yet, I am not sure if it's worth watching. I love the first one better.

Wow it's so good 👍, I was hooked on it without fasten single bit of it. It's been quite long since I feel the time flies like air during my drama time. I wonder why did it so unreachable for international audience when it's so legit?

(Marking this as a spoiler both because it goes too deep into details of the story/characters to leave for people…
I agree, that's why I spent many days wondering. Because I do know and agree that Lee Tae maybe not ideal king but not bad written. He is like the central reasons of everything that happens and central excuse for every other characters justification. Thus, it makes me started to imagine, what if other actor on my mind playing the role? And that's where I got my conclusion. Only if, Lee Joon didn't try to overact Lee Tae's pain and misery but also equally balance the strong act for what his aspire as a King I'll be content.
I saw him act at good balance before tho! When he played the villain in Bulgasal. That kind of act that makes me drowned in sympathy for the character he played and I expect the same, but failed to get that.

What happened is we’ve got a screenwriter that took crack.
I just got to know that the screenwriter was the one write Novoland: The Eagle Flag. He/She indeed very consistent lol, that Novoland one did the same. Begin with potential ends with mess.
Also, at the point BCF coming out with that ridiculous hair 😲🙈 Hallelujah, I want to undo what I just saw 😳

Please be offended fans, but I just an ordinary viewers here like to share for those who on the same objective side viewer looking for opinion to consider.

Honestly, I have been wondering for the last couple of episodes, whether it's the character writing that hold me or the actor's acting did? Then today, in that last random ending I concluded, that the actor did 😂
I like Lee Joon's performance in other dramas but he often plays kind of same frequency roles thus his role as Lee Tae here gave me an 'unch' feeling inside. Something not fun, not enjoyable. I'm not sure if it's good or bad, but every time Lee Tae's being emotional and his body language begins to shake through his eyes and lips, it is just personally too much for me. Indeed a lot of signs of over-acting. Yet, his character was undeveloped till the end. Though he did get the voice he wants, he is still the same immature man who cares for his misery only. Sympathize with others' misfortune, yes! But still, his own that all he can see. Which in general point of view is acceptable, but here he is a King not just a commoner that have zero responsibility over at least hundreds of people.
I'd not say that it's badly written. At some point, I even wonder (think) that maybe Yoo Ah In will play Lee Tae's role better.
Unfortunately, Lee Joon failed to make me show some personal sympathy for Lee Tae, which was done outstandingly by Jang Hyuk for his character and Hanna just let Yoo Jung live up to her reputation till the end. Because a lot of Yoo Ah In project did have similar color like in Six Flying Dragon and Jang Ok Jung and both successfully pinned me on his side, no matter how ridiculous his (YAI) action was 😅

Overall, I can't give it all perfect points but it is worth some hype, I truly enjoyed and appreciate the last two months with you, thank you 😘

Ah, shout out to all other characters! 😍 they were all well written. I see none of the important character being written and played like a tool. Even the greedy eunuch that I wish I could slapped to the straight A official stand for rules but not logic 🤣. It just Lee Tae annoyed me till the end. Like I wish to send him to my grannie and let her give him some long life lesson speech. Cuz he indeed a deaf King good for himself.

Jang Hyuk is really another level actor. He even makes me rooting for a villain. I was dead his loyal supporter for the last five to six episodes 😂 though I support the King clever action last week, but in this episode PGW caught me off guard by stating how unwise the King's action was 😅 I mean indeed all he wants was an absolute monarch and only care with 'people' that let him have that. Anyone being obstacles on his goal is not his 'people' and must be gone 🙄 well, okay 😔

Why people claim this is a xianxia/wuxia drama. There is nothing in the pictures or teasers that look like chinese…
Mind you that it's normal for the crowd to identify similar ideas as one they are familiar with. For the last decade, most Korean Costume dramas have been full of historical genres compared to fantasy. Since 2012 big Saeguk dramas have been dominated by history-based dramas like
The Moon Embracing The Sun (2012)
Jang Ok Jung (2013)
Empress Ki (2013)
Chinese adaptation, Moon Lovers (2016)
Queen of 7 days (2017)
Even the newest big The Red Sleeve (2021-2022)
Whereas the fantasy historical K-drama that's big internationally is limited. Such as Gu Family Book (2013), Arang and the Magistrate (2013), and Scholar who walks at night (2015) that's all I could recall.
At the same time, Chinese drama has dominated the world of fantasy drama as it is widely popularised through their culture and well accepted in the modern civilisation.
Besides, many old K-drama watchers are also familiar with or even fanatic about other Asian dramas too. I have personally been long attached to Korean, Chinese, Japanese, Taiwan, and on some occasions Singapore and Thai drama.
So though this drama has a fresh and interesting story in this Saeguk world that's been long full of palace political schemes, it's not new!
As just yesterday I rewatch Legend of Fu Yao for a million times already, thus make another old freak drama maniac here that just like me immediately familiarise this drama with Wuxia/Xuanhuan kinda genre. Not to disregard what belongs to who, because I'm not Chinese nor Korean. But, for what we've been known for a long time, we are instinctively familiar with it. Just like I'm not going to debate whether Bahasa Indonesia and Melayu are the same or not, or which one is better between those two, we related anyway.
All in this world is related! Because God damn nothing stand original, even endemic species like the Komodo dragon, most likely evolved in Australia and dispersed westward to its current home in Indonesia. Our language also evolves and influences each other, and so do cultures.

because chinnes is famous for this genre which automatically makes people think of it after seeing something similar?…
And you don't bring Joy of Life in it. It's neither Wuxia nor Xiaxia, don't you know the difference? If you cultured enough to watch Joy of Life, appreciate it 😉
