Honestly, it's never a good idea to keep scores between couples. But in this case, I think ML deserves a free pass for pretty much anything just for setting that altar up.
It must go against his every instinct horned in the 14 years for war and loss. It's almost a betrayal of his family. This is the height of love really.

Please let's stop playing weak woman card here that she has no choice. She and her grandfather trapped ML on an arranged marriage. She let her sister go and took her place by her own free will. This woman is much more than a weak woman.
She's owned up to her mistake and lack of trust, let's stop exusing her behaviour.
No matter what angle I look at it, ML deciding to love and respect her, despite the blood feud and his oath to kill her family is more than enough to make him a wonderful man.

Her luck is so good. To have a drama with such a high quality character and deliver high quality acting ready to realise is the best way to make a massive comeback

He has a "rags to riches" story. And I don't think he graduating from an acting school. Or even had proper industry connections to kick-start his career. He also didn't debut really young

I totally get you, I absolutely hated how slimy his character felt until after grandma's birthday.
After that the creepiness definitely reduced, and we didn't see him for quite a while until ep or so when they brought the subplot of his obsession.
Also grandma overcompensated from being hard on the ML by being too soft on him. I think Mr Wei goes on a rant about how he wants them to make him face consequences rather than coddling him.

I've been seeing quite a lot of videos saying how netizens in China bully him about his looks whenever he has a new drama.
But anyone honest will admit his acting is great and he even hired trainers for that.
Personally I don't get it, he's so beautiful to me. And YouTube comments are always saying how handsome he is, so I guess international audience love him. Much more than quite a lot of MLs.
I'm sure he's beautiful cause I'm pretty shallow and watch dramas for beauty. I guess some people don't like his unusual background.

Mr Wei has 2 controversies so far.
After the grandmother's birthday he kind of makes his peace with the cousin and doesn't really do anything that needs exposure. So it's a big happy family for a while.
Then later on, from maybe do 22 or so, he gets seriously obsessed with the FL, although it seems he doesn't plan on acting on it, ML finds out they have a fight, reputations get damaged and he's still kind of a good man so he offers to leave the city to salvage the family's image.
Basically ML loved his cousin to goodness.

I think one of the reasons he blew up was right after finding out about his cousin, he walks in on her maids putting something of his cousin in her special box.
It's like, fuel to his anger that she doesn't hate his cousin (which she shouldn't as the sister in law), but like... He wants to lash out and hate the man just to walk on on her holding something of his as special.

I mean, violence is expected from a boy who's been on military expeditions since he was a child. The guy is a general raised on the battlefield, it'll be unusual if he wasn't violent.
Also remember his most stable relationships are with the generals and his advisors, ML is more used to rough housing it.
The good part is, FL expects that and is unphased. Like when he choked her, her only beef was the wrong accusation.
I don't think he's a DV coded person sha, he's just aggressive in his interactions and expressions. As per military ruler

None of the MLs from the other dramas you listed had their family betrayed and a blood oath against their FLs battle.
I think FL constantly gives in first cause from a moral stand point, her family is in the wrong, they're not evil for doing what they did, but his hatred against them is justified. And also, she's well aware that she snuck this marriage to him as a means of survival.
I personally love how the FL is the absolute perfect one here. I don't even like the ML is LLTG or Hidden love, I felt like they were superficial and to a large extent selfish (his revenge was at the detriment of all their love, I hated it), while our ML here has given up his revenge and last wishes of his brother.
It's also certain that she's more emotional mature than he is. He was raised on hatred, she was raised to mediate and work with the stars. Background makes all the difference.

From the very beginning where FL's cousin spelt it out. She's the daughter of the governor, her fancy life is paid for by the people. So she has a responsibility to make sacrifice for the people. And when FL explained to her servants why she wasn't overly angry the ML reading her letters, he has the whole state to think about, so it's not personal.
They handle the tricky balance of being leaders and still being individuals in their own right who need happiness and fulfillment.
I especially love how the FL is very aware of this, lots of times FLs aren't the most considerate in dramas.
And ML apologising is such a cute addition. Hopefully, they nail the ending of this drama, then it can confidently be masterpiece worthy

I personally am loving how the FL is the perfect one in this drama. More girl power 😂
Taking into account ML's background, I think he's doing a pretty good job. Trauma of seeing his family die (leaving him with a pretty useless mother and a hard grandma😐 no love) and living on the battlefield for years isn't easy to circumvent.
The man just threw a few tantrums that our perfect FL forgives well and you all are throwing hands.
