Why did Mak Moon have to be killed for seeing the kings face, when the king walks around the city showing his face like all fukn day long and ppl are constantly seeing it? Even if they assumed he’d heard him being called ‘his majesty’ it still makes no sense (except of course to start the plot because he needs to die so DogBird has a reason for revenge) Mak Moon is just a random nobody, a peasant that snuck into the city, which they somehow know right away as well, like, who’s he going to tell? What exactly could he possibly do with the information he has (ie knowing what the king looks like) there’s literally zero things he can do with it. Even if he were to run around the city yelling that he’d seen the king, who would believe him? And I mean that no one that matters would believe him anyway, as in the officials who want to kill the king wouldn’t believe him anyway (their whole attitude is all about peasants aren’t people, so why would they pay attention to someone like that at all?)
Anyway XD, my point is that he obviously had to die so our ML has a reason for revenge, it’s just a very bad indicator that whoever wrote this script couldn’t even think of a plausible reason for Mak Moon to be killed so we’re left with a whole shitty mess starting this drama off. Yeahhh, it’s a very bad start and I somehow doubt it will get better, I have a feeling this drama is just full of plot holes, bad writing and useless characters…
Go Ah Ra is just not a good actress >~< every character she plays just ends up being the same character, the way she speaks her facial expressions, hand movements and little personal quirks are always exactly the same for every single drama/movie that she’s in. She’s a one trick pony pretty much. I’m sorry if you like her, like there’s nothing wrong with being a character actor. She just needs to be type cast, that way she can just keep playing the same character. There’s nothing wrong with this one character she’s acting as, as long as no director tries to cast her in something that doesn’t fit that specific character…
Anyway XD like in Do Do Sol Sol it worked fine, but in Hwarang, it does not work at all >~< her one act character is just annoying af in this particular story and Universe…
Shi Yoon without his shirt on is just such a miscommunication between his face and body. He has these massive skinny, cute guy vibes, especially when he smiles. Then he takes his shirt of and it’s like his body forgot about the face XD anyway don’t get angry at me he looks great with or without a shirt, I just remember the first time I saw him take it off I was expecting a skinny guy with abs, instead he’s just all muscle and not skinny at all…
I know everyone hates Yi Hyuns character in this but it’s just such a well written character guys! There’s actual deep and meaningful development! He starts out so idealistic and is slowly torn down by reality until he turns into what he used to hate. And it’s done so well, not in an overly obvious arc where you can tell right from the start that he was going to turn out like that. I was convinced he would be one of the good guys in this drama, right up until he did something super fucked up.
This is something that’s done incredibly well in this drama, you can never tell where characters will end up or what they will do when put under pressure. Honestly I’m so surprised by how well this is written.
Man I’m only on like ep 4 of this and it’s already spectacular, just fucking mind blowing. Honestly I didn’t know the Korean drama industry was capable of making something this good.
The serious tone of it works so well with their brand of humour too, and this show has just enough of it every now and then for it to really make you smile and appreciate how it’s used. Like I started this for Yoon Shi Yoon but Jung Suk is stealing every scene from him XD I’ve only seen him in hospital playlist and like he’s fine in it everyone in it is fine, but the show is kinda to relaxed for anyone to really show of acting skills, but this drama is like a showcase for skills XD anyway he’s very good in it.
I agree with all the claim you made above except why she didn't call the police when the crazy fan barge in. This…
Yeah I’m really not enjoying this drama because of all those reasons though, I stopped watching it again for like the second time now XD I gave it another shot but I still couldn’t enjoy it. I always come to mydramalist to vent my anger at dramas that annoy me, or to rave about dramas that I love, that’s why this comment section is here, so people can voice their opinions about the dramas, actors, OSTs… etc
I atleast know of one idol who used to even treat his fans to a meal and hangout with them, not in a creepy way…
EXO is the kpop idol group I loved even before I’d ever set eyes on a kdrama or even knew what the members of exo looked like XD they had ‘call me baby’ on a top ten playlist on Apple Music like ages ago and I liked the song so much I just downloaded all their stuff without even knowing who they were. It was like years and years later before I got into the rest of all the great Korean wave stuff, and actually bothered to google exo and find out who they are XD
I agree with all the claim you made above except why she didn't call the police when the crazy fan barge in. This…
You are kind of right there, it could be seen as a reason for the character herself to think that’s why she can’t call the police in this drama. But actually she still could have, the police would have called the owner who is Hoo Joon and the would have told them she’s staying there. Anyway XD my point is that it’s very easy to get around these ‘reasons’ the drama would have us believe are huge roadblocks when they’re really just very minor inconveniences.
But your definitely right that this is a reason for her not to call the police ^^
100% agree, old look was so original, individual and fits him so amazing, and then he became (visually) random…
XD yesss, everything about that 90’s style just looks amazing on him, while the new style just looks so boring and plain, like it’s fine he still looks great. But every single ML in a drama is dressed exactly like that with the same hair style…
This drama is a pretty badly written. The characters just keep going in circles and through the same situations, but like in a way where it really isn’t very interesting to watch them all meeting each other again and again. Also, I have to suspend belief like a lot to accept the fact that some of them are stupid enough to keep trusting the shamanness over and over again, plus her actual motivations for doing anything are pretty weak. If she really wanted revenge she could just curse everyone there’s no need to keep going back, I guess she wants to control the king but what that will actually get her isn’t made clear at all. Anyway, the show is just kinda a mess feels like they keep switching writers every few episodes and none of them have been told what’s actually happening in the show.
Seriously I can’t with people. That poor girl being raped by the king in the first episode and everyone is commenting on how ‘funny’ it is that there’s servants there telling him to do the seagull pose >< I’ll give it to the writers though way to distract these absolute idiots from what’s really happening in that scene
I also don’t like shows that imply the past will change because someone travelled to the future. Let’s say travelling to the future is possible, it would still be impossible for your presence in that future to change it to a point where a whole person just disappears. Just like changing the past won’t change your future, or your present. The past has already happened in the future that Hyun Jae is in, Ji Hoon has been born, he exists, the future and the past don’t exist in a parallel fashion, they don’t happen simultaneously. If Ji Hoon was going to disappear he would have the second Hyun Jae appeared in that time. But he didn’t so he obviously won’t. Anyway I know this is theoretical stuff but it still annoys me.
This drama is like mostly filler. But like not great filler. If they focused more on the relationships between characters it would have been better.
The basic plot is quite good, Hyun Jae is thrown into the future where he has to figure out what happened to himself in the past. It’s just that, even before he finds out that his money is missing, it’s kind of obvious what happened (I don’t wanna tag this as spoiler so I won’t mention it). But dramas are always vague about character backgrounds when they’re trying to hide the obvious truth. So there’s really no actual mystery to solve for the viewer.
The family dynamics between the characters though are very interesting, but the drama barely gets into them. It’s like they were too afraid to point out that this wasn’t a standard family unit, so they kind of kept avoiding the subject. They could have done so much with Ji Hoon and Hyun Jae being his dad but they just avoid it for most of the show. Instead they focus on the relationship between Hyun Jae and Choi woo Seung and it’s just boring tbh. Her character could have been better with a better actress but Se Young was just bad in this, she was over acting in every scene, made it painful to watch her over the top reactions and facial expressions. This drama could have been great, had it focussed on the son who lost his father before he was born and that father suddenly turning up, it would have been a much more fascinating story.
Anyway, the drama isn’t bad, it can get a little boring in parts but not so bad that it made me give up and drop it. I do love Yoon Shi Yoon so that probably had something to do with my perseverance to keep watching it.
I atleast know of one idol who used to even treat his fans to a meal and hangout with them, not in a creepy way…
Honestly I was expecting them to get caught and for it to be another ‘scandal’, I’m kind of glad that didn’t happen. I don’t think I could handle the same plot devices again XD
I like too many things to be so obsessed with just one XD I don’t want to spend all my time focusing on one thing or one person.
Dont forget ML continuously let JJ walk all over him like a doormat. He literally let him punch him multiple times…
XD yeah it must be a cultural thing. It’s just sad because There are dramas out there with good female leads that aren’t idiotic damsels in distress.
This drama was filmed in like 2018 though wasn’t it? I think it was. I really hope that Korean script writers are starting to stay away from writing such female characters, a lot of the newly filmed ones I’ve seen had great female leads.
Anyway XD, my point is that he obviously had to die so our ML has a reason for revenge, it’s just a very bad indicator that whoever wrote this script couldn’t even think of a plausible reason for Mak Moon to be killed so we’re left with a whole shitty mess starting this drama off.
