Something about this show and the webtoon gets to me. I mean I read the webtoon, I enjoyed the show. But are we all just conveniently ignoring that the main plot is kind of ridiculous and outdated? I guess so. I won’t even get into the fact that ju gyeong manages to flatten huge pimples with make up until her skin is perfectly smooth XD I mean that kind of thing just makes me laugh and realise how stupid this show can be.
I don’t know why you would want this kind of show to make foreigners think your country and it’s people actually act like this. Like their all so shallow, mean and idiotic. They can’t tell that someone is wearing make up and when they find out they treat that person like a pariah, just complete human trash. I know I don’t think that tv shows represent a culture, but you know that there’s more people who believe it than that don’t.
I know everyone loves this drama so much but it’s just terrible. And I don’t mean the story or acting or production is bad.
It’s the whole falling in love with the tortured soul, tough, scary, he might kill you any moment guy.
Unless your suffering from mental illness, or in particular some form of Stockholm syndrome maybe? You would never fall in love or be able to trust someone who treated you this way. I mean it’s not even the usual cute/I hate you formula, Wang So is literally physically abusive with Hae Soo. I’m not very far into this, but yeah don’t try to convince me about this. I don’t care if he acts differently later on, I don’t care if he’s only acting this way because of his sad and broken past, or any trauma in general. That’s not the point. I can’t even bring myself to think about how problematic this show is, otherwise I won’t enjoy it. But seriously, if you enjoy watching this kind of relationship because you think it’s romantic and tragic, you have a problem.
I don’t hate this, I’m still watching it, I’m just not impressed with this trope in general, and I’m getting really bored and sick of hate to love, so yeah. I’m giving it a chance at least.
I know this isn’t the kind of show you should be expecting realism from... but XD some of the ‘jobs’ he goes on and the way he does it it just so ridiculous. It kind of kills any excitement I have when watching it. There’s on in the second episode and he’s in this TINY room with like 3 big servers in it and a guy on a computer in front of the servers and Healer is hiding behind the servers. Now they are not big servers they’re quiet small as servers go. And at one point a girl walks in and he jumps on top of the servers to hide. Like I said their not big and there’s a guy sitting right in front of them. Just ugh, it was so painful to watch the director trying to shoot it from angles so the audience doesn’t see just how stupid this scene is >_< I don’t usually watch spy genre kind of stuff for this exact reason, even the ridiculous gadgets get to me tbh. But everyone raves about this show and the plot with the journalist and the girl seem interesting enough so I’m giving it a chance.
The last episode ruins one of the best dramas I’ve ever seen. They couldn’t just leave well enough alone. It would have been better if Hyeon su had just died. When will I dramas drop the memory loss trope?? Also, if you actually lose your memory you don’t just fuck off on your family of 14 years. He should be living with his wife and child to even have a chance of getting it back just everything about that situation is lame and made the show into a circus rather than a serious drama.
am i missing something lol? i don't think he's ever had his nose done, it looks the same to me as it has since…
Pretty sure he’s had surgery his face has changed in a way that’s not natural and his nose used to look completely different. I don’t think he’s ever said so publicly like other actors have ( I know lots have but right now I can only think of lee dong wok ) He was beautiful before too and he’s beautiful now, I think surgery is fucking great if you have the money. I’ve had plastic surgery XD so yeah to me, it looks a hundred % like he’s had his face done here and there
Either this pic has been face tuned to all hell or he got his nose done again. Like I’m not complaining without plastic surgery we wouldn’t have the stunning creature he is today.
How did those three manage to keep anything a secret with the fucking mother throwing a tantrum and FREAKING out every time the tiniest little thing goes wrong? Her character is a disaster waiting to happen and I just don’t like the obvious foreshadowing. I hope I’m just wrong about her. She ruins the show every time she’s on screen >< coz it’s great otherwise.
it's because in China, time travel genre is banned by govt in past years. that's why most of them ended up messy…
Yeah I’m aware of the ban, pretty sure everyone is, it happened a while ago. And that’s not the part that makes things confusing in those dramas. It’s the bad subtitles, and the need to completely abandon all knowledge of reality so that the plot makes sense.
I hate, hate, hate historical time travel dramas so much. I’ve tried watching SO MANY of them and every time I stopped after the first 3-5 episodes because they are always so fucking boring and stupid. While the Chinese ones can sometimes be slightly interesting they’re always so confusing and all over the place they end up being just as bad. I don’t know why, because I enjoy western historical shows so much I thought I would love Korean ones too. But every time I have been so disappointed. I think it’s the tropes and constants in k drama that I seem to enjoy in modern dramas but can’t stand in their historical counterparts? I don’t know tbh.
Anyway, the whole point of this is that I really like this show. I almost didn’t even try to watch it because I thought it would be the same shit again. But I was pleasantly surprised.
Yeah, but the book is *not* better than this season.
Yeah I’m not ignorant of the topics. That’s not what I was talking about, the way something affects ‘society’ isn’t the way it affects me. It’s always easy to throw ‘society’ into an argument for your cause to make an individual feel like they are wrong because ‘society’... I very clearly stated that I can tell the difference between real life and fiction, when I watch something like that, it does not steer my thinking towards believing that men can’t be assaulted, just because there are people out there stupid enough to be influenced like that does not mean, nor should it mean that I need to change my views it means they should. There are also studies indicating that this kind of content can actively stop people from committing real rape because they have their fantasies realised through fiction. I don’t exactly agree with either, but there’s a ‘study’ out there for everything, isn’t there.
Yeah, but the book is *not* better than this season.
Why not? It’s purely fiction, if you really can differentiate between them, and, your not an impressionable child or teenager, then why am I not allowed to enjoy content like that? Why is it so wrong? I’m not hurting anyone, I’m not trying to make children or teenagers think that rape and abuse are sexy or cool, I don’t think that either, but I enjoy watching plots that include it purely because I think that anyone has the right to write a story the way they want to write it, and changing that is pretty much ruining something they created. So please explain to me why, as an adult who is hurting no one am I not allowed to enjoy it? Why do you feel the need to try and make me feel bad about it?
hahaha, how is it? should I watch it? The same thing pisses me off too!
It’s actually good XD I mean it has its problems, like most shows and dramas, but I did watch all of it and enjoyed it more than I was annoyed about certain things in it.
Yeah, but the book is *not* better than this season.
I really don’t know why you described these, I hope it wasn’t for my sake? I’ve read the book >< and again I don’t know if your trying to change my mind? I don’t really understand why you answered my statement about your opinion not being fact with this long description of plot points from the book... ?
Anyway, I still think the book is better, I’m not trying to make you like it better. You do you, you like whatever you want bro... but please stop trying to push your opinion on me.
I realise that a lot of people are sensitive about some of the content of the book and that’s fine, I don’t have any issues with it as long as it stays in the realm of fiction, since I am a well adjusted adult and I can differentiate between reality and fantasy. I mean I’ve read books that had so much more graphic and disgusting scenes in it than the ones you mentioned, I tend to be slightly desensitised to things like that in books and movies. Also, I’m not trying to perpetuate these kinds of plots in bl, I do prefer it when authors can write interesting romance that does not rely on rape and violence as part of the plot, it shows they have more talent and the stories come out more interesting.
I like this show I really do, it’s easy to watch and entertaining.
I just don’t really understand the complete personality switch that Yeol Chan has around ep 7 or so. Before that the audience is basically pushed into hating Man Shik for his shitty behaviour, his opportunistic personality and willingness to do anything to move up. And of course for what he did to Yeol Chan. Then, all of a sudden Man Shik turns into the chill guy that’s helping out and basically protecting the other interns from Yeol Chans snobbish and selfish behaviour, now Yeol Chan is suddenly acting like an ass and like he’s better than everyone, but, Man Shik is still a kkondae and like, I just don’t even understand who we’re meant to be rooting for here? The young interns? They seem to be the only characters in the whole show that aren’t complete assholes. Because everyone else is just annoying at this point...
My same exact thoughts, having the book there is so stupid. They did the same thing in s1 but it wasn't as obvious…
Ohh yeah, you’re definitely right about those shirts looking cheap >< tbh they look like the kind of shirts you buy for 200 baht at a Phuket market. It really gets to me XD because both Mew and Gulf dress so nicely and fashionably, they always look great outside the show, but seriously every single outfit in this season is, as you said XD, atrocious.
Yeah, but the book is *not* better than this season.
XD I mean you can’t make that statement as ‘fact’. You can say that in your opinion the book isn’t better of course, but in my opinion the book is way better. Just because you disagree doesn’t make it so... ><
I keep coming back here after every episode XD I have a lot of free time this time of year, so I’ll watch ANYTHING that’s bl related even if it isn’t great.
I know that having a copy of their book in their apartment is meant to be like a cute Easter egg type of thing, but, it literally creates the biggest, weirdest paradox. Like are Tharn and Type living in the real world? Did their bl obsessed friend write up their story and that’s why it’s there? I mean just wtf is going on there? It’s like the writers heard about Easter eggs but just didn’t actually google them and don’t really understand how they work. So they stuck one in thinking it would be cute and they focus that camera on it constantly to remind you, but all it’s doing is literally reminding us that the book was actually much better than this season...
Also just a personal thing, but why is literally every outfit Type and Tharn wear jeans and a printed shirt tucked into the front?
