I want more of this genre from Japan!
Tbh, I’ve been counting the days until we’d get a delinquent BL from Japan, and I would say this is a great start. It’s not perfect, but I do believe it might open doors for more Japanese BLs in this genre.
PROS
→ DELINQUENTS IN JBL! DELINQUENTS IN JBL! DELINQUENTS IN JBL! – It’s like getting a rare card from Japan.
→ Decent action scenes – While this movie doesn’t have High&Low -level action sequences, I would say it’s still pretty good and won’t take you out of the story.
→ Plot – A simple but well‑made plot. It’s nothing new or extraordinary, but I think it’s still well done. It has its dark bits, but I appreciate the way the movie balances the darkness with some comedy and romance. While I do have some issues with how the romance is handled, I still think it’s enjoyable as a movie, especially if you’re an action/delinquent‑genre lover like me.
→ A well‑executed/decent kiss scene – I know this is a bit sad to say, but from my observations, a lot of JBLs tend to have dead‑fish kisses, so I was glad this one wasn’t like that. That alone gains a point in my book.
CONS
→ The BL aspect could have been developed better. I’m not saying I want intimate scenes or anything, but a better‑developed love line with more depth regarding their feelings would’ve been nice. I wish they had shown more about how their feelings developed, but the movie simply doesn’t have enough time for that.
→ The acting was a bit stiff, especially from Jyutaro’s side. I felt like he held the same expression throughout the entire movie, even though we’re supposed to see him feeling different emotions. Sadness 😐 Love 😐 Worry 😐 Guilt 😐 It was a bit frustrating to watch, ngl.
Overall, I would say this is a pretty decent watch. This would’ve been way, WAY better as a drama with more time to develop the storyline, but I’ll take it. I admit my ratings are a tiny bit biased since I love the delinquent action genre, especially since this one is also a BL. However, even if you’re not particularly a fan of the genre, I still think it’s worth a shot. It won’t blow your mind or make you fall in love, but it’s entertaining when you have nothing else to watch.
