Well, the drama is clearly influenced by ancient China as seen with the oriental architecture and the occasional hanfu. It's a mix of the traditional oriental and high fantasy.

爸爸 is the modern Chinese way of addressing your father. This drama doesn't really follow traditional Chinese 礼 despite being set in the ancient times (i.e. greeting with handshakes instead of bows). I don't really have a problem with it because it's supposed to be set in a fantasy world.

Doesn't hurt that Hu Liena is a lot more interesting of a character too.

Might've been the most anticlimactic scene I've ever watched in a drama. I thought Tang Hao was going to have an absolutely epic battle with Bi Bi Dong. Instead, he threw his hammer once. At least the CGI was nice lol

I thought it was shot fine. Just the kiss was extremely awkward. Not sure if it even fully counted as a kiss.

Tang San's mother was a 100,000 year old soul beast who became a human like Xiao Wu.

Yes... that's why I said he acted better in The Wolf.

I thought Xiao Zhao was much more impressive in The Wolf. He hasn't been as good here. Though to be fair, the acting all across the board for this drama and been extremely bland.

I find it very fitting that the one lead with a stable family is the most mature character in the drama (besides his father of course). It's a nice touch, and explains a lot of the differences between him and Bo Wang.

You said you wanted to poison people on this forum who rated the drama lowly. You need to chill lol. Different people have different opinions.

You might have problems if people rating this drama lower than you gets you this irate.

I thought that was a pretty cool design choice. The haggardness was to convey the fact that he's been roaming around for years and was very realistic. It was a nice breath of fresh air from most C-drama ML's with their perfectly shaven faces and flawless skin.

Oh, no doubt. This drama got carried so hard by the acting. The three main leads acted their hearts out.

Love in Between was a very solid drama that came out this year. It finished pretty weakly because their budget got pulled halfway through the filming process, but the first half of the drama was one of the strongest I've ever seen.

Ancient Detective was another impressive wuxia drama that I'd recommend, albeit with somewhat vanilla main leads. But yeah, definitely no masterpieces like Nirvana in Fire or Joy of Life this year.

Yao Ji gave her this poison that massively increases her strength but also shortens her lifespan. Happened somewhere around the last two episodes (when Zhai Xing woke up and saw that her veins were black).

They did him dirty with his prince outfit. His hair and hairpiece make his head look like an overinflated balloon.

Lol, "trope filled writing" is so accurate. C-dramas seem to really love their overdramatic angsty stories.

I wouldn't call either of the leads "mature". The FL is way too obsessive and the ML is a jerk who doesn't understand honest communication and causes a ton of misunderstandings. That was part of the reasoning for why I gave it an 8.

I personally find it to be decent. Don't expect it the drama to become a classic like Nirvana in Fire or to have flawless engaging writing like in Joy of Life. But it's a moderately entertaining idol drama with some bright spots here and there.
