Problem with Kdramas is that when women cheat, the 'understanding' and flawed nature are talked about. When men…
That's a good point.

I agree. I don't support adultery but some people do have their reasons. Not everyone is a douchy cheater. Just…
Thank you for the recommendation. I will keep it in mind for the future.

will there be romance?
It's not tagged with romance, but it's really too early to say. I think that if there is though, it will be subtle. I personally hope not, but I know from experience that I should be at least open to the possibility.

Haven't watched the drama yet (waiting for episode 2 to air) but in regards to adultery:My mom pretty much said…
Yep, I agree. Thank you for contributing productively to the conversation.

The victim always should be given the most consideration, but I'm just sick of seeing adulterers mostly villainised in dramas (to the point that they become caricatures), because in reality, they're just people. That's why this take is refreshing.

I'm a very decisive person who doesn't have much patience for people who can't make up their mind - and this also reflects in my personal relationships, so I think that was why my mother chose that angle. She was trying to get me to understand that not everyone knows that they want/need, that in the case of cheating, would be to break of the problematic relationship (if they can).

I think you will enjoy this drama with that attitude. First episode was so much fun, and Cho Seung Woo is such a brilliant actor.

So you mean it is justified that while her son was waiting for her , she was having fun with her lover lolz Custody…
Her affair and her ability to be a good parent are separate. This was one phone call, and it seems like it's being blown out of proportion due to what she was doing at the time (idk about others, but my own mother is not good at answering the phone so)...

From what little I have seen of the husband, he is an abusive control freak. He has not been shown to be particularly physically violent, but those notes he leaves are insidious. And there have been subtle hints of him coaching his son on what to say to the therapist - I expect we'll learn more next episode.

The FL is looking out for her son's best interests in trying to get him away from her ex. I've seen parents who cannot stop fighting and thus harm their kids, and I've seen parents who put aside their differences for the sake of their kids.

The degree with which the FL is fighting her ex is small. She is willing to lose out on everything, save the well-being of her son.

I don't expect you to agree with me, so no matter your response, I won't argue back.

I'm prepared to get roasted because a lot of MDL commenters have very strong views regards affairs.

Anyway, I once expressed my distaste of adulterers, as I'm an honest person and I viewed it as the height of dishonesty and a massive betrayal of trust to cheat in a relationship. But then my mother, who is much wiser than me, pointed out that affairs are often a symptom of a dysfunctional (or at least, non-functional) relationship, and that affairs are a very human thing to do - as in, we are flawed creatures and we don't always make wise or just decisions. Or even know what we want/need.

This forced me to reassess my very strong opinions, and I realised that for all we can condemn adultery, it's still important to ask the adulterer, "Why?" Because if affairs are a symptom of a dysfunctional relationship, then that means the relationship, that has two participants, is not functioning.

Although there are cheating scums out there (see currently airing Call It Love for this portrayal), in this drama, I am thoroughly on the side of FL. She made bad decisions, and she is owning them, but that was due to the build-up of her awful relationship. I find her entirely defensible, and it is refreshing to see a Kdrama make a positive case for the adulterer (Strangers Again missed a brilliant opportunity, and I don't think it tried to defend adultery much at all with that cop-out, despite what others claim).

The custody case also speaks to me personally, as I witnessed something similar happen to a close relative when I was younger. I really feel for the son in this, and I hope there is a happier ending here.

I put this on hold because I found the first episode rather dull. Now the opening episodes have had time to land, can someone tell me if it picks up? Or is the initial tone what I should expect going forward?

I haven't watched a lot of historical dramas with women dressing as men bit here they have portrayed the role…
For all its problems, The King's Affection was the first drama that portrayed this convincingly for me.

I have a friend with hypoglycemia and he hasn't been able to have sugar since he was a child. He needs to keep his blood sugar levels up, but that's different - he just needs to eat normal food, like toast, regularly. Her reasoning is fine.

I just found it boring. Nothing about the opening episodes caught my interest.

Same lol. Kim Min Gue better compensate for this with better acting choices in the future. Or not, free will.
I'm not particularly familiar with the cast, so I'm not even watching it for them. (Though I remember FL did well in Hi Bye Mama)

Taxes are boring, confusing and this drama really doesn't spoon feed its viewers information - it's left to us to piece together what's going on. I'm not surprised it has such a low rating on this site. But, I'm just on the first episode, and it's really quite good. I just can't multi-task while watching it, is all.
