Yeah, GPG was surely a one-woman show. She was so good and had the perfect understanding how to be hilarious without being too much. I also liked that the show didn't take itself very much.
When it comes to cast and money MQ is far more superior but that alone don't makes all.

Yes, I know GPG and I liked it, that is why I tried Mr. Queen even though Korean remake often lack a lot. I know that he didn’t loved the concubine in GPG but in MQ the viewer isn’t shown that yet. We only know that bc we know the original story.

I loved his desperation to make her love him from the beginning in GPG. In this remake the king surely has a soft spot for her but he had also a soft spot for the baby on the ground and the concubine who saved his life.

The chemistry, of course, is personal opinion. I felt nothing but depending on how passionate the characters are the king actor hopefully will deliver at some point. The actress was okay until yet. Well, I think I will give MQ another chance next week. If it still didn’t found me then I will rewatch GPG who is the perfect fusion between seriousness and hilarity without embarrassment despite the bad costumes and lot less money involved.

The Drama clearly is a mix of GPG and Cinderella Chef (1st half). Try watching them.

The king loves the concubine, at least that is what they make us believe at the moment. I see no chemistry between the actor and the actress at all. The actor is quite good in the intense scenes but a stick in the romantic ones. When he begged for the life of the concubine I was just embarrassed bc it looked so bad. I don’t think that it was intended. The failure in the funny scenes I think is intended since his figure is completely tragic until now.

So far, I like it so much. I watch many Korean dramas with psychological genre before this so this drama is relaxing…
Um...you did understand what I wrote? I just said that it isn’t funny. The lack of working comedy (for me) does mean I want a serious sageuk?

You missed my point. My problem with it is that it isn’t funny for me and the contrast between the intended comedy and court drama is too stark. I came for the comedy saeguk fusion but there isn’t any fusion at all. Why did you mentioned Empress Ki and Jewel in the palace? They are a completely different Genre.

At first, the show is not funny for me. Besides the queen‘s court lady no one has the timing nor the facial acting ability to be funny without overdoing. This actress is just awesome and able to grasp the hilariousness of the original. Probably it is the cast or probably it is the directing but when all try too hard the comedy dies.
The script is too ambitious but lacks ideas for me. It is a mix of Go Princess Go and Cinderella Chef meets Korean dead serious court Dramas. The contrast is too much. Did they have taken GPG and thought ‚There is too little for 20 epsiodes. Let’s mix other Ideas into it.‘? They let almost all cats out of bag already, so the story will drag on sometime. That it started to become a Cooking Drama to fill the time shows that.

King and concubine cast have no chemistry with each other.

does anyone knows if this drama based on novel or else and how is the ending ? happy or sad or open ?
Well, from the description it is a Happy ending for the OTP but those Dramas tend to kill off all good side characters.

The missing plot is exactly why I dropped this. I liked what you liked too since I love Slice of Life stories…
Marry Me was just boring for me. The chemistry was okay but the entire story is just too ridiculous for me. I really liked the FL actress but this story is so far below her ability that I couldn’t recognize her. The director had two good leading actors and couldn’t make use of that. I recommend to just watch a few episodes. Probably you like it. It isn’t that bad but I think it isn’t recognized much for a reason.

Mr Honesty was surprisingly good for half the story. Spunky heroine who helped the hero finally to grow through his trauma. The entire story progressed nicely. But then the heroine’s “family” showed up and she turned a doormat and the ML who started to learn that the world isn’t just black and white (lie or truth) trew a tantrum and reverted back to his old ways. The 2nd FL turned from a warm and successful woman into an evil and scheming flat character. The 2nd ML character was just ridiculous and boring who demanded the FL should fall for him despite for what he did. It just felt like they switched screenwriters middle of the story or it is just not my cup of tea people turning 180 degrees and everyone being okay with it. It isn’t bad but when stories that made sense before turn into something without I dropp that. The chemistry of the OTP is very good, the 2nd OTP is a bit too silly but nice too and the actors are good except the 2nd ML who was stiff and couldn’t connect with his character. He is a way better singer.

I think my best advice would be to go into this one with low expectations in order to maximize your enjoyment…

Star studded cast list but I wish they had put more priority into the script since ML & FL storyline is so incredible boring that I ended skipping their scenes. The supporting characters and their stories were far more interesting. A clear drop for me.

Yes!!! There is no need to dwell into Xu Feng's past because he's been given everything and has always been favored.…
Yes, XY is such a character you can love to hate. Other than MY who had the chance to stay on the right path he was destined to the dark side. I think the older you get and learn how life is, the more interesting such broken characters are becoming. Who doesn’t have a dark side and has to fight it sometimes?

the person who fit her love...is the one she loves. I disagree. Xu Feng did not use her when he found out the…
She was manipulated killing him and did give up so much to make it right again. Even when dying she still tried to give him back his health fully. And how do you call making your brother that furious with jealousy he lets go every restrain?

Yes, you always can choose how to act. But Night always lived in a vipers nest and had not really good examples. All other immortals accepted the tyranny of the royal family as given. How do you think will that affect someone with such weak foundation? Of course it corrupts him. And his brother was taking his rightful fiancé away. Of course, he threw a tantrum. That he did wrong with JM, we all agree on and that is why he lost her. He didn’t deserved her and he knew that as well at the end. But he still is a tragic character and I feel sorry for him.

To your I.e.: It is quite common that children of alcoholics become alcoholics as well. Or they totally are against alcohol. But almost all will never have a “normal” relation to this legal drug. And please don’t say people who fall too are just weak since that goes against scientific facts. Please also read about epigenetic.
If you translate that to AoL so Night having a normal relationship with his other half will always be difficult. He has to fight the attraction to keep her for herself and lashing out to everyone who will take her away, even the lover itself when she tries to break out. So, you can say he is the type that who went alcoholic as well and at the end he was dry.

The world is not black/white but grey. If you want it that he was evil bc he did evil things then I’m okay with it. It is just a Drama. But please also leave us Greys see that things aren’t that easy.

Exactly my opinion except the deserving love. JM was just unfit like he was. Such a broken character needs to learn to love himself before he can be loved. Otherwise it always would end in tragedy. It was nice to see he understood that at the end and I’m sure he will heal eventually.

I’m on your friend’s side. I pity him. He never learned how a healthy relationship works and not to be selfish. He always had bad examples. And he did repent at the end, declaring himself unfit to be loved. He needs to learn to love himself first and he wasn’t at that point yet at the end of the series.

Phoenix otherwise was the golden child. All loved and pampered him. And then his lover seems to have betrayed him and he went trowing a tantrum and loved to hurt her at every turn. He even still used her when he found out everything at end, or rather he couldn’t run away from truth anymore. He didn’t deserved her as well. Even after her death he still mourned bc what HE lost. He started a war and she paid the price to end it since it would bring nothing but pain to all the people.
I only liked his human incarnation. He should have learned from the king how to trust his lover, don’t going where she can’t follow (bc it goes against her everything she believes and is) and trust her decisions even though it did kill her eventually.

I felt that both were unfit her love. The happy ending for Phoenix didn’t fit. The one who deserved a happy ending was her and unfortunately she decided she still wanted him.

Not really. 2nd ML never had a chance and he wasn’t exactly nice to her.

I really loved this Drama but then the foster family showed up and it started to drown. Also the ML's "addiction" to truth turned to somewhat annoying after a while since his black/white world changed into grey thanks to the FL but he still demanded to be it black/white. I dropped this. Probably will finish it evenually but probably not since I don't really care.

S2 was announced but no actors confirmed yet. Wouldn't be surprised when they just put together another human and alien together aka The Night of the Comet. I wouldn't mind that since the casting was what made S1 so popular and I don't think it would work out with different actors.
