I said it is her worst acting in all of her dramas, it is personal opinion because I have seen her better acting. If criticising is always taken as bitching about, i really feel sorry about everyone who gets offended all the time. Actually I have seen alot better Cdramas in ancient setting with really good female center roles which I applauded. If you feel offended and sore heart about someonexs opinion, it is not my problem. And you will not stop me from expressing my opinion.

More recent CD just really feels like all about gettung rating and viewers with just faces and acting, not with good story line. With many stupid roles these actors and actress have to waste their acting skills on.

And the make up is just horrible. FL looked lije she's wearing a mask all the time, even whe ahe was thrown into the water, she got out with her mask make up intact and intact hairdo. And the make up on ML also.

And the FL being so in most of the time reckless with herself and also with everyone is unimaginable in such time setting. Eve n for a female-centric fiction story.

OK so the emperor has many children he never get to met and even spend time with most of them like in the first few episodes, yet oh this FL can meet emperor and the consort all the time she wanted and can act so freely before them, while his own children have to be constrained with strict palace etiquette. She is a free-spirited person but she also treated her master like her friend, and oh she can do martial arts, can even harm herself with poison but always safe herself. Everythi g with the story is over the top characterisation of FL.

And oh she's law enforcer but she can vend he law for her own personal gain just like hwr own master told it, and yet the emperor himself had to cover things up for her. Oh she's all about looking for justice for her family, this smart sharp person to poison everyone, she did no justice for her family by becoming law breaker murderer herself, yet oh she got to be the lead of inveatigation like no one other can replace her while the one who use brain is her sidekick the ML. The idea with Chinese nowadays drama is FL is this physically strong good ay martial arts and then suddenly become smart and all knowing this and that, while putting ML in the shadow yet the brain is always with the Male, that doesn't seem to be like women empowerment at all, but reverse role. And it just really bothering me at all with the idea of strong women is oh they can drink alot, in most of these Cdramas the strong woman character seemed to be someone who can drink so much liquor.

And the idea of justice is just idea and words to be spoken of. So disappointing. Yet oh all these dramas get high rating because the faces.

And drama with good story line, good acting really not getti g good rating because oh the actors and actress are npt these "idol" faces.

Imho this is the worst Bai Liu acting of all her dramas. And the chemistry is just bland. Their chemistry is better in HOKP even in that ML is SML.

This is so over-rated with bad story bad characterisation and roles. The cases also though they tried to make it so complicated, most of it just presented incoherently as well. This could be betterbut so are many other dramas with this ancient setting.

Since the setting is based on actual historical timeline in Tang Dynasty, they tried to portrayed the situation as close as it was in historical background, which is for sure to an extent filed with bias and suspicions between social classes. The dynamic between emperors rules in their eras. The noble classes have their bias and most of the times indeed exploited their status or position either for good or bad reasons. And the merchant classes struggles as despite their contributions to society still seen as lower class without titles and can not forming family relationship with nobles.

And the reason the sherrif wei took the law into his own hands not just because the bias, but because hia sister

Even for non-fiction it is full of non-sensical acts since the setting is historical. Lots of this nowadays fiction pushing so hard on feminism ideas in ancient setting which is not just out of place and time,

He story itself has many inconsistency that viewers might overlook because of the casts or the usual tropes presented.

1. When she was forced to be a male she wore mask to hid her face. Then when she came back from the brink of death she again maintain herself as a male, now without mask. So what's the purpose of the mask on the first place? To hid her face as a female.
2. She's not just small, short but literally thin, but wow tremendous physical power that she got hurt so many times yet manage to survive every single time, and the maid of that Chu guy who also know martial arts, got stab from the back and oh she died. They made her overly competent that she surpases every single male soldier both in physical and intellectual competency? Like she fought against bigger men who also know how to fight and won and beat every single one of them in the selection. Her so called intelegent strategist is what every soldier even non-military personel can think of and decide, like of course you have to sent reinforcement troops once other troop need a back up. And no need to explain when you use a straw-figures as a ruse to get arrows of your enemies, it's just obvious, and to make the enemies who actually war-monger people mostly using arrows to not know his tactic is like meh. And that is the most brilliant idea she had.
4. She faked het identity as a son of some soldier guarding the gate, yet later she has a master. And the Xiao guy just not wondering and no explanation about that either. What master that is because as far as we are told she was educated in school wth male lead and basically male lead's father was her master as he was the one who taught her martial art skills. She is too expert on all weapon there is...like seriously? To forceful on that. Her voice definitely female voice and no one even the ml can figure out she is actualy a woman. And oh not to mention physical featueres. Her "tough" speeches also feel like she was just reading the scripylt out loud. Not to mention, with her background as general, when she came to ML garrison she acted all clingy to ML, like every single thing she did, she need to mention and demand the ML to consider it as a merit. Like ML should be reminded to recognize things she did as a merit, like she's a soldier, soldier's do what he has to do, it is their duty not something that later she can demanded to be promoted.
6. When they went to help the princess, oh the outcome is the ML got punishment and she got rewarded. But later on she left her post wih thw Chu guy who is the same government person who by perauade the emperor.to punish ML and rewarded FL, not just she didn't get punished like ML before, she got rewarded and got promoted instead.
7. With that 8th vice general when he was there as a witness that she is the real He Rufei, he presented a secret code between the general and her vice generals but in retrospect he told her they were illiterate so they communicate with her with certain codes they formulated together, but how come these generals being illiterate? How they read and write reports to the court? Sending internal messages.
8. In battles actually ML who seemed to make decision and he knew why she was stationed in place where there was no attack, because she could send the reinforcement. Yet she got the credit of the battles because she is doing what she supposed to do as military commander and then turned ML as the contributor only when he was the one went to a battle against enemy. Not to mention so many unnecessary new characters appeared only for nothing but filler. Likw the master, the old friend and the lady who then said he was a she.

This drama is too over-rated no build up story and basically the story is so simple and not so many intrigues, not complicated at all as we know who the bad guy is, and even theu tried so hard to make the Chu guy as grey it is too obvious a victim turned obsessive trope.

The cast are good but the story is actually a meh imho, and it got so high rating is just wow....nowadays it is just about the casting and their looks, never really about the story or if the actor.or actress bo matter how good at their act is actually cut or suitable. If they just make it a short drama or a movie, it could be better.

Too overrated drama. Too many cliches and usual tropes and overloaded talks and monologue thoughts. The worst is the characterisation of the FL as this He Yan. The actress tried her best but her character is the weakest of all while this supposed to ve about her legend.

While this supposed to be her own making and building up her career from scratches, but the story just presented her character as someone clingy to ML, wanted to be treated special way, always act like typical teenage girl to get what she wanted from ML, like seriously there is no merit in all her attempts other than being clingy and act like spoiled brat to get special treatment from ML and this really discarded her merit as a soldier becayse they gave too much emphasis on how she surpases every single on of her comrades like she is skilled in almost everything even in parts where physical build and strength is required while she's physically small in build. And what about all this brilliany military general who supposed to have strategic mind as she competed with others to be the best soldier? While in person with the general she acted like teenage girl almost in every way, demanding this and that from ML, and gosh so tired watching she got special treatment from the general in the name of "keeping an eye on her" is just absurd. And the idea that ancient people are so stupid also couldn't see through a woman disguised as a man is just beyond my comprehension, they should pick actress who could actually have more a build that similar to the character and could act on the facial expressions of a fierce lady general and act like one. Like in "Oh my general", in that drama FL didn't even disguised as a man, but just a reall female general and she acted like one. Tough, strong minded, not clingly, awkward when she's demanded to act like proper lady, and she just doesn't look and act like typical "proper" lady. She's fierce and at the same time trying to accept her role as wife and a woman in family and her society. Making her own unique persona that viewers can see and feel her character development. In this drama, it just not there. All you see is someone so fierce in battlefield and back with the general she turned into someone else. There is not much of character development and oh she always need the general to cover up her disguise everytime she was in a situation where her disguise might get compromised. Like so frustrating they pusehd so hard on this "feminist" trope in ancient setting but failed miserably in its delivery all the time.

Not criticising the actress, she did her act well. It just she doesn't seem to cut for the role. She's too "pretty" and too "feminine" and even when she got he fierce look, she just doesn't look like a female general cut. They should have chosen an actress that have these suitable look and traits to portray a woman disguise as a man or someone who could really deliver the act.

Nothing against the actress but she's just not suitable for the character, I'd prefer the one in Fated Hearts. She's really good as female general, without need to disguise herself as a male, and even if she disguise herself as a male, her might be able to deliver the act better.

He always good with every role he played. He's quite versatile, always enjoy his acting, he's fun to watch..hopefully he gets more leading roles and keep building up his acting career.

He didn't know the truth until the end about his master killed his father, he knew though that his master was corrupt official but he never used the money and stored it in his old coffin in his cellar, and no one of Lu Zhi's accomplices ever talked about the fact that his master killed his father. In the end he only knew that his master involved in the murder of Lu family. I think it is better for him not knowing that, as it would destroy him completelty if he knew the father figure who in his regret have done his best to raised and taught him to pursue justice and not being corrupted by any means. So he could live on as the person he is insfead of living as a broken person with lots of angst hate and regrets.

Even for an ancient setting the story of face swapping is just absurd even for a fiction. This is in a real life settimg not fantasy, so even it is a fiction, it is absurd to for FL to swap face with SML in 24 hours time, being thrown off the cliff and survived alone without a broken bone, and perfect face without any scratch and she even managed to walk to the mansion just to witness the murder of SML without anyone notice her going in and out into the mansion.
Another thing is the should have casted someone with similar body poature and facial structure to make it believable face or even body swapping (which even more impossible as it simply means soul swapping), FL is too slim and petite than SML. And gosh the thick make up at all times, too distinct than others, and her lips are just too glossy for ancient setting, and she lacks the supposed SML character that she is. SML the original love interest despite her is more mature and upfront in expressing her thoughts on her work, she's also independent. But FL who supposed to swapped her face into SML.maintained very little of SML.characteristic, she's mpre like her original form, spoiled, scheming, sort of manipulative, and just giving very different
vibe of the supposed original character.
The other thing is her friend knew it was her without any doubt whatsoever or even feel.terrified with the change of her face, her friend just ah so it is you just because she said so at first encounter after her face swapping, and to her master, her friend who had crush on her, just believe it's her because she said it's her or hinting at them it is her in another face/body, that is an absurdity. In real sense it is a shockimg change, and people mostly have doubts and being suspicious and takes time to get used to that kind of situation, but apparently everything is just smooth and fine. And not blamin the actress here but the writer do not make SML.character like SML, and cast someone who at least have that SML.characteristic to be the lead/FL, then it would be great. It is kind of weird that FL is so distinctive have different make up than the rest of female.casts, too thick and glossy. It's kind of not benefitimg the actresa at all, as everyone is juat looking at her thick make up and hairdo and her pouty glpssy lip and not her role. And the actris always have this similar side fringe on her hair in every role she played, and similar facial expressiom, thick make up, in every role in every other drama she is in which kind of diverting people's attention from her role or her acting. Like she's there just because of her beautiful face and make up and romantic scenes. Though her acting isn't bad at all here but not impressive at the same time, while SML only have two first episodes already delivered a strong impression on audience, making FL actimg seemed.fall short than SML

And another thng it is mentioned in ep.2 that FL tried so.hard to be slim and improve her beauty which is kind of not true in ancient china standard.of beauty. It is modern "beauty" standard that is beimh forced into ancient/period setting. In ancient China, beauty means you have rounded/egg shaped/chubby face, not slim because it means the girl came.from a good family, rich and prestigious family. Being slim means peasant who couldn'y provide good nutrious food for the children. Women are expected to look well-fed and the more chubby always means a woman came.from a good or rich or aristocratic.family who fed her well. And men at those.periods prefer women with that physical features, chubby and look.well-fed. Not some slimmy which to those.period mean mal-nutrient and poverty and low social status. So it is weird that FL said she tried so hard to become slim.for ML.to be attracted to her.physically in that time.period settimg.

Really why on earth FL.character is so badly written. Bery confusing, not interesting and literally annoying. She keep saying she wanted to be this official position on her own merit and her own effort but then all the opportunity was provided by ML, and they tried to makr her this smart character who solve cases by deduction and that she even able to be coroner but actually everything is conveniently provided for her.hints, clues and even others have to give her pointers. And even more friustrating is her self-rigtheousness that she had to do everything alone, mindlessly, without precaution, knowing she has no ability to protect herself still she keeps puttimg herself in dangerous situation mindlessly and ML has to always come to her rescue, and most of the times others provided her with clues, hints and ppinters but all the credits goes to her. And why make like she is the only persom cam.make.wotness or culprit talks.or confess? When ML is a more.experienced and great interrogator himself? He could make other talks just by his stare. And geez, she forced herself into the marriage then made.promise to serve ML, but then she kept breaking the promise act like insensible insensitive selfish brat. She's not just impulsive and not showing any characteristic of an investigator or detective who always mindful and act with precaution, always careful and tactful. And she's just a clerk and there are inspectors, but she commanded and orderimg them around to do this and that for her, and she got the credit. It makes her very unlikeable to watch, though there is a character development but it still very liytle as she took all the credit to herself while others the ones do the hardwork. She treated everyone else better than ML who always be there for her, ungrateful and demanding even at times. Her friend is even worse, she's already an official but we never see her dealimg with a case, along with FL making team.or whatnot. FL always think she is the only person on earth to.pursue justice and she has to do it alone, and others are just accessories. While most of.cases actually result of either team.work.or.ML solve it, all.she did is just do some.dediction and demand to be the one talk to witness or.culprit, or literally.taking the credit for.others who did the legwork.for her, and she always go alone into danger, i mean even in that period setting in many such dramas , they always come in.pair, either partner or adsistance, it is weird she insited of.doing things on her own and others have to come to her rescue and clean up her mess after her.

But apart.from that, the actress do a great job, except.fot their kissing scenes, it's better not having those kind of scenes at all,.like other investigation dramas, even with romance, love doesn't necessarily means kissing scene is an obligatory.

ML.character as well went downhil from an imposimg general, with notorious fame, reduced to an emotional man who has to come.to the rescue of FL every single time, even FL teenager friend could.treat him disrespectfully and he just take it. FL anmoyimg friend also could come and go into his house to badmouth him with FL even.planning for FL's future husband after divorce in front of him when he was lying in bed after taking a hit for foolish FL. Like no one in her.circles ever respect him or treat him nicely, all wanting him.to.protect her then badmouthing him. It's.kinda making his character lost its credibility.

And other thing is the silly and really weir minister of justice character, a minister of justice who act.like a clown every time he appeared is rather weird.

And halway the story also went downhill. Stil it's watchable

Like the story and characters and their friendship, except for Chen Si, I think his character is not well written. He supposed to be main lead, SML but instead his character is too bland and almost insignificant. Being kind, gentle and honest person doesn't mean he has to be child-like, ignorant and oblivious and in constant need of encouragement. He supposed to come from a hunter village, though being meek and timid person, he supposed to pick yp some hunting knowledge at least he knew how to survive in hostile environment, how to read situations, etc. But instead the writter made him a total ignorant country bumpkim who act like brainless person, which really make his character boring and almost unlikeable, everytime he gets clues randomly and by accident, and he didn't even know he things he picked up is a clue. And his connection with Li Bing also almost forced, not naturally formed. How on earth he suddenly become super close with Li Bing just because he is a witness, and Li Bing just out of nowhere needed him to be around him, just because he likes cat? He didn't even helped him finding his brother at all. The brother just suddenly appeared to them instead. In that era setting it is super hard to become civil servant, and the way they made Chen Si character as illiterate and ignorant then just because Li Bing encourage him to be one taking test, and then revealed that Mr. Yuan (the divine reader) used to take test to become member of Ministry of Judicial Review, but how on earth Chen Si within months knew how to read and write and passing the test just like that? While Ali Baba is made to fail as well several times in his tests not because he failrd but because circumstances. Other supporting characters are far more interesting than Chen Si and not boring to watch.

Having said that, this is one interesring drama to watch, not the best investigation drama but not bad at all too. Love the friendship, team work and understanding of each other. Even sad when Hu Si died, he didn't have many scenes but his character is even more interesting than Chen Si.

Not blaming the actor though, he did great portraying the character..

I have just watched this but I think it's quiete clear about the answers from early on, or maybe there's more to it if we watch on...

1. Why they want to kill Scholarly deity?
- it is because Beili conquered their kingdom, and their capital became part of Beili, where Baili's family to guard, Scholarly Deity and his brother were the guardian of the city and wwre slain by Baili's grandgather's army, but schilarly deity's brother use his inner power to save his dying brother scholarly detective before he himself died. And Schlarly deity use his power to create alternate real within his court to recuperate there. That is why no one found his body.
2. Whats so inportant about BDJ and why is he chosen?
- he had innate martial art skill I think because of both of his parents are masters og theit own, but his family didn't want him to be raised in martial world to be used by royals nor by imperial court, so his granfather overspoiled him, they just wanted to protect him from being used as pawn of power play in the capital and and BDJ himself basically talented and determined to be "liquor deity" to fulfill his promise with his friend. He accidentally fell into the court when tried to hide from his family's hired teachers and broke into that realm where he met scholarly deity, he didn't knew his identoty but then he was chosen because scholarly deity "swordmanship/martial art is considered lost enemy's greatest martial art" and he was chosen because he inherit that martial art.
3. Why did Scholar Deity said because he is BDJ? whats the secret that grandpa and father hide?
- BDJ is the grandson of Baili general who conquered and killed and severly injured Scholarly deity. That is why he said because you are BDJ. The grandson of general who killed his brother and severly injured him. But when BDJ breakn into his place, he instantly liked him and took him as disciple. Though BDJ initially only learned about brewing liquor from him, he eventually inherited his martial art swordmanship as well
So BDJ is chosen by fate as Scholarly deity said.
4. Why are they hellbent on taking or killing BDJ just bc he is the disciple of scholar deity? I mean ruofeng said

- because he is the disciple of Scholarly deiity who supposed to be dead as reported to the emperor, everypne thought he was dead along with his brother. And his martial art swordmanship suddenly arise again, emperor thought BDG grandfather lied about killing scholarly deity, and as it is enemy's greatest martial art swordmanship, they thought new threath might arise/rebellion that's why everypne wanted to kill BDJ. That is aldo why the emperor sent Prince Langya to investigate, but since it was long lost martial art, many have interests in BDJ, defeated ebemy states wanted to kidnap him, and used him, his own kingdom also wnated to use him, as pawn ofc. That is why prince Langya promised his granfather and father with his life to never ever let BDJ being forced to serve in imperial court or by royal family, he has to be let free after finishing his study.
5. Did the family of BDJ knew he had a master or he did it secretly? Why
did grandpa hide Scholarly deity
- I think his grandfather knew scholarly deity didn't die/saved by his brother, and was recuperating in his home. His grandfather was not a vicious general, he didn't want another war which caused suffering of innpcent lives and soldiers who have to kill and be killed in the name of power and conquering other nations mercilessly. And most importantly after serving the kingdom then being used by imperial power.play, and then being framed, being mirdered by the same power who they serve loyally. Just like the family og Ye Yue, who also their family friend.

No hard feelinh for the actress as she actually did a great job being very cartoonish, still tje character is just too superficial and almost felt unreal borish with no real development. She juaf popped up out of nowhere, on first day with a guy she just met and suddenly acting all too confy with him, even sleep on his arm like he's her husband or something then suddenly she's the closes person to him just like that, no build up no nothing she just popped up and glued to him, first impression made her character really not likeable and inrelatable. Though one can really like her action scenes but with that bad first impression really hard to watch her and make one just want to skip alot of scenes when she talk, as she is the only character that semeed to be an exagerratjon while others quite natural with their characters good or bad. Anyway it's enjoyable watch overall.

Thank you for the explanation, now I feel like reading the novel. Now it make sense to me. It indeed upset me alot too when TY had to keep sacrificing just to make FL stronger and TY as the main character reduced to supporting character for FL like her sidekick when everything came from TY not from.her own strength and hard earned skill. It is very upsetting she had no talent, no real skill but portrayed as someone like to eat something and money oriented. While other side character actually have skills. Everything is too easy for FL but they had to create that "one tome suffering" to rise her up so powerfully. Overshadowing ML, bad ending as it should be ML that end it not FL. Or both make the end withput making ML like a sidekick. Would really love to have a FL.with her owm strength and merit and not dependaple on ML's power or sacrifice but on uqual or tandem with ML.

Totally agree with this. I didn't read the novel still I found they also didn't do justice for FL. In the whole thing it seems like she was useless without Dragon Scale and Dragon Core, like empty vessel that can't function at all, even to master the dark art yet the story gave her too much credit for being the savior, like she couldn't achieve anything on her own independently. It felt unfair, because everything she achieved actually not her achievement but TY's dragon scale and core. It would be great if she actually can manage without both dragon scale and core, and achieved things on her own merit. The story only make her like a vessel for TY power but attribute it to hers which is really upsetting. She suddenly master everuthing in just few days while others took years even for TY took millenium to achieve. Nothing comes on her own, she has no talent no nothing all is given free to him by TY. It would be a great story if they make her has her own story, her own achievement and merit without depending on TY and worse to be credited for everything. Basically everytjing is TY and she's just that love interest to be at receiging end of everything, and to be credited for everything. I like all other side characters better in this because they actually have their own talent and skill on their own, rise and fall on their own not because of someone's power and potent inside them.

Yes i think he will meet again with HS and his mom will wake up, they will move to Seoul, and get everyrhing they lost back. Though we might only see a subtle hint they'd be in a relationship, since GJW was in so much trauma betrayed by everyone he knew and trusted all of his life, and he has to start over with his mom, picking up all the times lost in their kives, we won't be seeing an obvious romance. And this is not romance drama to begin with.

Because that's what it is, the messes up relatioms they all had with ML and his family. All rooted in "jealousy". The writer actually being kind of generous with adjusting the story-line to soften the tone of some relations which in the novel kind of borderline distuebing. And NG relation with GJW is one of those. It's not crazy in love, she's kinda have obsessive-possesive disorder, she wanted to have him as her possesion, she wanted to punish him by letting them all putting him in jail so she could play "savior" with him, thinking by doing so, since she's the only one be there for him, he would somehow depended on her, trusting her, and love her. In that she's a master manipulator. She manipulated the friends into not turning themselvews in, and cunningly used that against them, in the other she use to blackmail them. All for her own gain. Actually in the novel her relation with GJW as he's out of the prison was very physical, he actually at first believed her and fell into her manipulation, they had relationship, and that what made it even more strong the amount of her fear of him finding out the truth and all her attempts to keep him believing she's his savior, his only one. And the amount of pain ML had knowing someone so close to him, someone he trusted, could do that to him just to have that relationship with him. The betrayal that broke his heart so painfully.

It is necessary because the bottomline on this drama is indeed "jealousy" in all its forms and what it can do to people. The victims jealousy led to their deatha, the friends and their parents jealously led to them scheming against ML and his parents, the victim family jealousy led them to believe ML as the murderer. They don't just destroy ML's family but benefited from destroying this family. That is why they wanted to rid of him soon as he got out jail, and NG wanted to have ML as her own away. Like ML and his family are things to be tossed away when they had already served their purpose. It is some really messed up people.

They all did what they did our of jelousy and selfishness. NG is necesaary because she see herself as the snow,white that deserve ML all love and attention while the one one who people called snow-white already dead. She'a the snow-white so she had to play the character as innocent, kind, sweet, loving person, because the dead snow-white in her mind didn't deserve that name. Thus the title sake of the novel and drama snow white must die. So she NG can be the only true Snow White for ML as she believed she deserved that and she deserved ML for all the supposed love she had for him.

I think this drama has nothing to do with tombs series Zhang at all.

It's a total different story and whatever Zhang here is nothing to do with Zhang in those other stories after read about it.

I don't understand why MDL make this related to those.series.
Just because it's original title is The Hidden Sea, but it's a whole different story, different Zhang.
