He smelled mint from the person(bong yi's grandmother's killer which bareum thinks is the killer) with whom he…
It was YH's scent. Because on both scenes of BY's granny and then again at the church YH was there. Maybe YH was indeed alive somewhere, because if YH was HSJ's son, he would do anything in his power to save him too. And along the way "fix" him. At this point writer has gone to the extent that anything is possible with her story.

But you can at least hoping for another twist to make sense of what's happening.

BR is in the brink of losing it, KMC is already losing it,
BY is losing it too
CHJ is trying so hard to make her own redemption to her past....now HSJ knew that she's still alive and kicking,, she might losing it too to HSJ.

The only one who doesn't seem to lose it is HSJ. I wonder if he will ever feel remorse and guilt over the lives he took.

I even have a length of comment a response to someone here who keeps talking about prefrotntal cortex transplant...idk…
There's even more funny thing on ep 9, detective Kang told CHJ when she came to the station all worry about KMC, he told her that KMC admitted he killed that old detective he said something like".......he crossed the line..."
And then he began to tell her why KMC intentionally pushed her away and also how his relationship with KMC went distant...in that scene of his memory...they were in the car on a stake out...then KMC turned on the tv and they were having personal talk and then KMC turned on TV...detective Kang said something again...."there's a dashcam, we will be disciplined for slacking off work...." now that scene explained why he didn't want KMC to be in a VCU anymore because he's driven by personal vendetta and by that losing his common sense and good judgment in his job.
Both of the lines actually part of casual talks but interesting you see....even the writer made the detective know that there are lines can't be crossed and that there's a consequence for breaching the rule....but then the writer even made KMC to attempt to murder a suspect...he's losing his mind over his revenge and deep hatred. And now he made another new attempt. KMC is one my fave character here since in all his excentric he's the only one seemed to be genuine and someone you can relate to.....but then the writer had to ruin his character too...he failed to arrest a suspect (and now to me it seemed like he talked the suspect into killing himself jumping off the building, and he didn't seem to regret that too), and for coming to the crime scene drunk and gave a tv interview, and the whole ordeal about the live tv broadcasting...it cost him his only left family....i get it his old detective boss was backing him up, but those things seemed to be a conflict of interest in active duty...and it crossed the lines (there's even a board of disciplinary committee...that basically let him go no matter he admitted his wrongdoings....

I don't see the good intention or the morale here to achieve the the so called writer goal to make someone to feel "remorse", "guilt" and "empathy"? she had to cross so many lines while at the same time put the words in one of the character that there are lines can't be crossed as a police officer...KMC's character is ruined too, now he's nothing but taken over by his own devil.

Hopefully he could win against that and be restored....how come it's justice?and how come it will satisfy his need to satisfy what he perceived as justice?by becoming another murderer? But in that I get it also...like writer might wanted to deliver to us that could happened too...and indeed it is understandable for KMC getting lost in his own vengeance...but I don't understand why the writer did that keeping him in the police force...he wanted to resign, he admitted to his wrong doing in disicplinary committee but he was there being a detective...so the writer must at least restoring KMC too....he's a victim and he's not fit to be a police officer when he has conflict of interest, so he better get back to his sense and learned the hard way to keep personal things from work...he's a public servant paid by people's tax...etc etc....

And the flashback in the long distant of time...how HSJ doing it all alone with just his hands and his simple.medical tools not even wearing surgical goggle, he's able with dim light he's able to perform brain surgery on mouses?...that's either extraordinary awesome or extraordinary bs.
If yoh watch carefully the so called brain transplant...he hold that frontal lobe in the air...and that part of the brain just work perfectly fine....and it's a brain of a dead man. Now that's a bs even for a sci-fi. Because once a man died, his brain also died...brain can't live without oxygen support, we don't see the supposed "way" he found to make the brain transplant a success....he said he's on the verge of breakthrough if KMC when little KMC acknowledged him to be a murderer....he said to KMC. Like brain can only survive very little time without oxygen, in 4 minutes time no oxygen will cause a permanent damage to it and within 4-6 minutes the brain is dead. Now how come HSJ transplanted a dead frontal lobe? Even if YH was alive, his frontal lobe must have been damaged too thanks to BY's attempt to murder him by suffocating him to death and he couldn't even fight her back. So the thing is....YH must still be alive that night...and he was alive when his frontal lobe being taken out from his head, and they killed him out of his consent...even he was a killer...a brutal killer...the law still applied...you can't take justice into your own hands...and do that to him...it's cruel and it makes one no differ than a murderer...so what's the point of this whole ordeal...what's the morale standard writer wants to achieve? And we didn't see any sign of brain surgery on YH's head...except it is someone else's brain being put into BR's head and HSJ was toying with him...or this is all big chunk of nonsense.

HSJ said he found a way to deal with recepient rejection of the transplanted brain..see even it is a sci-fi he's anticipating the real circumstances in brain transplant...so what exactly he found out? He was in his final stage of experiments like 30 years ago but he didn't succeed yet back then after trials on so many of his victims...and now at the first try in a very unusual circumstance, the brain transplant is a success after 30 years no touch on human brain...it's idk...how to even say it...unbelieaveable crazy.

Now everyone in main character list either murderer (HSJ and BR either a killer or goung to be one), attempted to be murderer (KMC and BY), and an old murder accomplice (CHJ)...and if BR is made to kill (again, assuming that he's the cross killer) then idk..it's too far and too complicated...maybe the writer intended this to be a phenomenal...a new genre maybe, or as being said...it's never been seen before in Kdrama...that explained the initial excitement from viewers to watch this...so this is really new maybe thats why we have all this reaction lol...maybe there's a great twist we expected to see and will somehow make up for all the disappointment and whatever.

But I don't have that high of a hope nor expectation nor excitement anymore...idk if this still worth a watch or not?

Ikr. You have genetic research and experiment to know in advance if a person is born with psychopathic traits or not. In this alone the writer is generalising psychopath as all murderers. It'a true most serial killers are psychopaths, but not all psychopath are murderers. Psychopathy is a spectrum...which means we can be anywhere on the spectrum.

And to go with genetics seemed not enough? I mean, you have the results with two babies with "psychopathic genes"...you just stop there. Now it's up to the mothers on how to deal with the babies. Like both mothers were terrified, uninformed, and not well equipped with enough knowledge to raise a psychopathic baby, not to mention it's their first experience being a mom. So it is very unlikely that a scientist or a researcher will stop at the result. Ni further follow up, no advices, no like guidance at all for both single mothers to be...one a widow another felt down and in pain of the betrayal of a serial killer husband...that' really a 'perfect pretext' to make case for which one of the two psychopath babies to be a serial killer....nature vs.nurture...but it's too much to use genetics research on psychopath (and happened only in two babies) then switched to brain transplant....

I get it one is a scientist who conduct his research to prevent psychopath criminals, the other one is a neurosurgeon who obsessed with creating new species of psychopath killers through brain surgery. So let's just use sci-fi tags as an easy way....so everything doean't really have to make sense but acceptable enough to keep the viewers in line.

And I can't agree more...the writer make the whole brain transplant is just like your usual surgery....like even in reality the research and experiment depended so much in advanced medical technology. And if this a sci-fi we don't see all that...we only have to believe with the skilled and precise hands of a serial killer with his deep knowledge reading medical books...keep his skills sharp by experimenting on mouses for 20+ years...and voilà! A successful partial braintransplant and he had the politicians in his hands like you need me more than i need you....

And I can't believe why the politician has such a power to make a call that bypassing every single offices that responsible for justice, law and order...like them all just bunch of nothing, not to mention the doctors, the police force....like the writer make them like a joke with so many lines have been crossed in regard to moral, ethics and dignity of the "real" doctors, police, detectives, justice system, government, ...

A sci-fi doesn't do the justice to what we have watched from ep 7- to now.

Twists are good, too many twists can ruin even a very good story though, great acting of all the actors/actresses who work so hard to bring the story
to life can't help when a drama losing its tracks...the plotholes and with some complicated characters involved besides the ML...and all have their story that might lead to the unfolding of ML's true color, the writer either intentionally doing that to mislead thr viewers to make it more engaging, or she just want to built a very complicated story...or whatnot.

So since we're halfway....we can only expect that the writer has the anticipation...and that she can pull it all off rightly as the episodes go to the end....

I have so many arguments but lol some might call it whinning and complaining and whatever then got another telling to drop the drama....now we can't even being a critical viewers without being told to drop the drama....

I can feel my disappointment now since I was so invested in this drama lol...but Im not shocked anymore since there are many who guess it right about the transplant, but that's ok...i guess...i mean yeah there's 10 eps to go...but i don't know somehow I'm not as interested as before and not as excited as before...just like you said...it's juat another drama...everything is good with acting but for me it has lost its charm...but hopefully none will be upset with my comment...since this is a personal opinion...no hard feelings toward anyone....

Hope all having good time and good ride with this drama...i need to give my brain a little "vacation" time...its been hectic in there for quite some time...lol...

Idk if I should laugh or cry...i mean where's the genetic things here...if it just serve as preface to the story...what's all with “What if we could identify psychopaths in advance?” ...

Since we still halway of this crazy journey (in a good way)....let's hope there's some goof twists (because it seems like writer like to make many twists - hopefully she still have some good in stores) to make up for the leap.....

It was sooo good at the beginning, I was thrilled that it was so good. But what happened?! They are so many loop…
Exactly my thought as well....twists is good with drama like this, but too many twists ruin a good story. It started with genetic thing then now big leap to brain matter. I don't have problem with sci-fi but you know this drama have actual/realistic premises in real world. If the writer wants to outsmart the viewers at least she should have in depth research on brain before making her fiction.

The emotions got their expression in frontal lobe, it's where in the brain emotion is regulated...but emotions processing in the brain didn't start there...it starts in some other areas of the brain. And we don't have that mirror neurons...we have similar activity in some parts of the brain with that of mirror neurons, it's called mirror system.

This drama said BR damaged not only his frontal lobe bur also his temporal lobe...so what happened with the damaged temporal lobe? He had personality change is one thing could happened...and his memory currently a mess up, but talking about severe damage, he's just fine in a year of recovery? And now developing all the craziness...you can't even tell if he's a psycho, a genius, a mentally unstable, or what...

And how the writer going to put "empathy, remorse, guilt" into him now? If this is the point of this drama....to be able to feel remorse and guilt you need to know what empathy is, now empathy is us regulated in prefrontal cortex, but that's not where it started or coming from...empathy of pain processed in anteriot insular cortex...now it get's processed and got the expression in prefrontal cortex. So now we just to accept that prefrontal cortex alone making emotions....but not part of integrated brain system. Smh.

Alot to say but it'll be a long boring comment though...sorry for that.

Hopefully the writer really can outsmart the viewers in later episodes ...and could make up for the plot holes and where you can make sense of whatever sci-fi she presented.

But kudos to the actors...they really do great job...especially LSG with his change....he delivered it skillfully....

I even have a length of comment a response to someone here who keeps talking about prefrotntal cortex transplant...idk how poeple mixed up the terms as if they are the same term just because this is a sfic-fi. I mean it's a very complex process and practicing in mouses's brain doesn't make you can successfully make it on human brain at first try. I happened to yea know onr thing or two about human biology, and trying to give my opinion...on the story hoping that the writer has done in depth research on the brain thing, i mean even it is a sci-fi it is a heavy one. Nowadays, being critical means complaining, not interested, disappointment and you better drop the drama for good...like wow...im the only one getting that joke and be told to drop the dramal...lmao.

I just don"t understand why when someone commenting something critical or expressing a disappointment as a responae to a comment, then it means you're not interested in the drama and not appreciating the hardworknof the actors? I didn't even say I'm not interested nor disappointed yet.

To express your disappointment on a part of the story is one thing, and everyone is entitled to an opinion and that doesn't hurt the drama. But to tell anyone to stop watching for being critical, idkif you have right to do so.

If you don't like the comment you reading or the response to the comment, then you can skip them too you know. Buy don't put words in someone's mouth about not interested.

If you read my comments..ive been commenting since day one here....have made numerous guesses, and many also make critical guesses but no one tell to drop the drama just because of that....and what makrs you think Ive been complainin in every episode?

And what makes you think I didn't appreciate the actors hard workd? Where i even said anything about the actors? All I have for the actors nothing but respect....so don't jump into conclusion just becauae you don't qgree with the comments about something.

And it's ok with me if you don't appreciate my comment it's your right...

You can enjoy your time watching the drama...

It's my call to watch and to comment on...so if you don't like the response to your comments...well i'll stop responsing your comment anywhere here...hope you satisfied.

So what about his damaged temporal lobe?

The prefrontal cortex of the frontal lobe, also responsible for memory, called working memory.

Now if his temporal lobe damaged how can he can his memories still intact...

Now since the prefrontal cortex controls personality...that makes whomever that prefrontal cortex belong to now having his personality moved out to BR. It's not BR's personalty...

And even the prefrontal cortex might be responsible flr regulating emotions but emotions were processed somewhere else in the brain...not just one area but more than one..

And to a specific empathy that being said processed by mirror neurons..(the fact is human brain don't have mirror neurons, the term beling to primate, we though have the similar brain activity as the mirror neurons) the activity similar to that of mirror neurons in human brains can be found in premotor cortex, supplementary motor area (fronta lobe) , and in primary somatosensory cortex, the inferior parietal cortex (parietal lobe)...And there's also an area of brain that plays a role to feel "emphaty" among many other emotions...called anterior insular cortex (insular lobe)...if BR only has transplant of prefrontal cortex, then I just can't imagine how the writer making up for where BR will get his "emphaty" from?

It is sci-fi, I mean the writer must at least doing some in depth research before making up her fiction.

I really don't have problems with sci-fi(it is one of my fave genres) but really this one is poor one from the pov people who majored in human biology. Many people might not questioning it...but ugh...i really don't want to be disappointed but I can see it coming ugh....

Now why she's convinced that YH is a SK? She's the one most close to him and he even told her that he would explain everything to her...

What....wait...so whose brain being transplanted into BR's head?and what's the explanation of it? Like how can…
Time travel is in a mix of genre...depend on the story it conveys...that is why when you have time travel story, you'll see the tag of time travel, time swap, time this, time that...you'll never really see sci-fi tag on it...but the ones with sci-fi tafs...mostly involving sophisticated technology, or devices, in advances time in future, and they indeed have the strong convincing framework that people could comprehend..a made up logic if you would say...

And explanation doesn't necessarily means someone should give a length of speech to elaborate the logic behind it...no...it could be just like showing how it is possoble in the scenes and like the research and all....

And mind you this is not a sci-fi like awaken or l.u.c.a even there you are shown what happened and what's been done to people being experimentes on...on how they got some super powers and stuff....

This one is based on realistic premises...you see when Dr.Lee with his research on phsychopathic genetic (or the lack of certain DNA in a psychopath)...it's a sci-fi...but his using realistic premises...like DNA research and experiment...those are realistic premises...and he even use real notorious serial killers to make points on his sci-fi research...and though you know it's a fiction you can comprehend how this story is making its points...yes it is a fiction but hey there's real research and experiments on genes and dna...and this pyscho gene test is basing on that....

So my point is writer must apply the same rule on the brain transplant as she did with that psycho gen test...

Because if she failed to do so...it'a really hard to comprehend her sci-fi here...so I have said once or twice...that HH must have experimented with some of his victims brains so I was hoping to get the understanding from that...because he might "find out" a way to make a brain transplant possible on human...and that way can be explained maybe through those cassettes..because in reality indeed partial brain transplant have been done on mice...so he's been doing that with mouses in jail...ans before he's been experimenting with human brains...so there could be the explanation why he could do that on BR'a brain....

You can't force a sci-fi that can't be explained when you built your sci-fi on realiastic premises...that's my point....

And I have no problem with this if I can comprehend as to how it is possible in this fiction....

And like anyone else I think we all can have our many different opinions...and we all have the rights to decide to go on or to drop this drama.

You can't expect everyone to just have the same expectation or opinions...or to just suck it up this is sci-fi...there are many different types of viewers...

This drama started out good and it gets better then ...idk I haven't seen ep 9&10.

So yea sorry I'm not one to suck it up it is a sci-fi drama or that sort...I don't just watch...and I think that's the case also with many people here....proven by almost 5000 comments ;)

It's possble that Yo Han is not dead since there seem to be a consipiracy with the doctors.Maybe the geneticist…
They showed us YH'a dead body and then his mom spreading his ashes lamenting on how will she pay the sins...i mean shs keeps saying that to the point it'a bothering lol since we don't knwo what sin she's talking about. She definitely hold some crucial clues on who YH actually is and Who BR actually is. Either on of them is JH or there's another person that's not being introduced. The writer seems to confuse us with the "memory" of YH's mom choking him JH to death. But there's other scene in the house JH was beaten up by his farher, and his mother throw herself as his shield....so it's either the two women are different person...or they're one...

Since she's keep lamenting about big sins and how she should she paid for all that...I guess if she's the mother of JH then she might be the one killed JH's father and younger bro...they only showed 3 body bags...and the scene of dead father's position is not likely that JH killed stabbed him...he was stabbed and fell off the stairs....

Or it might be as what's being showed to us all long...that JH is YH.

Remember in ep 2, when JH said his first murder isn't perfect...the scene they showed switched to the burned boxer and JH stood infront of it...so his killing probably started later not when he's young boy or on his teenage years....

And Dr.Lee's body hasn't been found as well until now. There's a body found in the sea/lake but it has 't been confirmed whether it's Dr.Lee or not. And it kind of weird that Dr.Lee is UK citizen and he's been missing for quite sometimes and all that, his family not looking for him at all? It's kinda strange.

On official sites the genre of this drama is sci-fic from the 1st ep..So in this drama everything is possible…
I don't think you have the right to tell people who are having their critical comments to just drop the drama just because they might ruin the mood of others. Everyone has the right to comment on this drama, and it is their call to continue or to drop the drama.

Fiction doesn't make it everything is possible...the correct genre for everything is possible is Fantasy.

Fiction can be built on realistic premises...and this is what this drama is...the story itaelf is a fiction but you can find everything else ia realistic, the characters, their jobs, their emotions or their lack of emotions, occurences, even the murders all are made to be realistic...which means people can indeed comprehend the realistic elements of it even it is just a fiction...which could be impossible to happened in real world. The fiction is believeable, convincing and engaging...so we have all the various guesses and theories...to be surprised each time....so it actually a good thing for having critical comments about the "brain transplant or implant thing" because brain transplant have been done on animals...and brain implant as well...so it is not scientifically impossible in the future reality,or making it a sci-fi on human brain. I think main point of the comments that are critical is not about the brain transplant or whatever sci-fi thing itself but about was it necessary to venture into that? The psychi genes Dr.Lee was researching on is also a sci-fi, but he provided us with believeable premises on his "research" which we can reasonably accept it. Pscho genes test is fiction but the method and procedures on DNA testing basically the same...it's real...DR.Lee even used real example of notorious serial killers in his genetic research...so you see, it's a sci-fi but it's grounded and built on realistic premises viwers can comprehend...or not? and that's within everyone's right to comment...and i don't think the writer will tell everyone to just drop the drama if you don't like what i'm writing about...actually it's interesting thing, that means this drama is engaging...and make the viewers think and maybe even making their own research on the topic....so it makes people want to think and want to learn something......

So please don't be upset because you just don't like the comments that ruin your mood. You can just skip them all if you don't like their opinions....

And enjoy your time watching the drama ;)
