this series has been a very entertaining ride. relationships b/w different characters and how it evolved through the course of story was great. acting is fantastic by entire cast. writing is strong, consistent and engaging. direction was good. background music was good. liked the outro music as well :)

I was comparing it with other shows. ofc you can sympathize with someone who works 90 hrs a week. esp a doctor. but its to a lesser degree when compared to an inmate in a jail cell reflecting on his/her life.
yes. that anguish and suffering can be achieved in HP through patients' stories. making them more personable is the only way like through some flashbacks. but it'll be even harder to tie that into with main story with reduced screentime for each character.
this is multiple seasons, so makers are trying to stretch out the background of 5 MCs. if focus was entirely on those 5, then this series would not continue beyond first season.
yes. sometimes patients scenarios do work out greatly and sometimes it doesn't. there is definitively some superficiality in some scenarios. like I said, the idea behind those is great but its lacking in execution.
yeah. an ep at a time seems like a better way :)

which is true for majority of korean series :/
yes. JP series definitely provide a wider range on stories and characters than SK ones. Korean producers have simply became too formulaic in their approach. 'all style and no substance' has been the case for majority of successful korean series in the last few years. it works for most of MDL korean audience.
still, every year there are couple of series from SK that makes it worthwhile to keep myself engaged in their content. they're not very popular on here but worth watching :/
on that note, check out 'On the verge of Insanity' (https://kisskh.at/67305-not-crazy). its a good dramedy about 2 middle aged office workers. it ended today :)

personal stories may have made PP but that prison setting played a huge huge role in making it sensational or more enchanted in emotions.
not that I'm saying 'PP' and 'Live' are successful just coz of the nature of their setting. its just that setting gives those 2 shows a distinct advantage over HP. HP also tries to present these 5 doctors as humanely as possible. its just emotional essence in their stories will not be of the same level for general audience coz they are not in a harsher environment like prison or out in field like cop. sure, 'Live' had some mundane moments but there was also a major value of those moments to those working in the field. similar msg is also seen in here in last ep that emergency deptt./nurses who people don't get enough love for doing their jobs properly so latter procedures can happen smoothly.
latter two settings are just easier to sympathize over a doctor who works 6 days a week/14-15 hrs a day in country's best hospital.
there's a reason patients and their family's perspective is added. its coz general audience can be appealed to more. like general audience is not educated about the procedure or terms so they're going to find it mundane for the most part. but it can provide emotional value from patients or their family's perspective. there's definitely a problem with on the execution front here coz it is not weaved in well imo. they do feel like a revolving door of characters that leaves your emotions jaded. main doctors' background and personal life should be delved into more but I think makers are stretching it out with multiple seasons. that's another difference.
I am also trying to understand where this series falls short when compared to other SoL. so I appreciate this exchange with you. bingeing and weekly watch sometimes does provides a different effect. and I'm not too sure about ratings as well. haha.

yeah. its neither procedural nor personal. it does sometimes feels a bit flat on emotional level but not interesting enough to grab attention either. I appreciate the sentiment behind those scenarios but if it doesn't clicks onscreen then it should be left on editing table. makers need to realize simply increasing runtime is not the solution. there needs to be coherence and direction to go along with it to make it work.
'Live' was def more focused on main characters compared to this season. but again, same argument like 'Reply' and 'Prison Playbook'. its easy to get the feel of cop's daily life and problems than a doctor tbh. their work is very very technical so that takes away some emotions out of story :/

No. this series is not even in ballpark of 'Beyond Evil'. this lacks in every single aspect from direction to…
idk which actor/series you're talking about. I was talking about 'The Devil Judge', 'Beyond Evil' and 'Taxi Driver'.
I looked it up and Shin Ha Kyun/Yeo Jin Goo were MLs in 'Beyond Evil'. Lee Je Hoon was ML in 'Taxi Driver'.

its like a love letter to doctors, nurses and patients. and then it tries to juggle friendship of main 5, their family and relationships, their juniors at the same time which puts ep length at 80-90 mins on avg. makers are def trying to do too much here. most viewers are here for main characters or romance and not the former part so I understand them being put off by it.
I think this one also sticks with its concept for the most part. focus this season has def been more on doctor-patient relationship or romance than main characters' friendship.
also, 'Reply' and 'Prison Playbook' had concept that was far more appealing to general audience. 'Hospital Playlist' has the least interesting premise out of 3. there's a reason why majority of medical series involve overdramatization and lots of rare diseases :/

yeah. there's redundancy in some scenarios and it could be a lot tighter and better. but same was true for 'Prison Playbook' and 'Reply' series as well. but latter 2 didn't have multiple seasons with same characters like this one. lol.

I would love it, too-they just have to get cast who are willing to do shorter series (still as much commitment…
I don't like multiple seasons format either coz more often than not they lead to disappointment.
yeah. Movies will be the home for thriller genre in SK. atleast for sometime. there are a bunch of factors that contribute to it from length to writers to production to actors/actresses. shows in this scifi/thriller/investigative genre have gotten a bit better over the years but still ways to go.
yeah I keep sticking around for smth worthwhile too. hoping every once in a while there'll be smth decent that pops up.

yeah OCN does this genre better. I'm not sure about this director too :/
I knew about networks' connection but I didn't knew there was that much of an overlap. I usually don't care much about network unless its a thriller/horror.
I applaud Studio Dragon for their works. they always present a visually appealing end product even though story happens to be lacking :/

Review Nevertheless,
these kinds of stories just perpetuate such shallow and immature views on relationships. like trying to normalize such unhealthy behavior by grown ass people. even try to romanticize it. say that it is realistic when it is far from that.
even though this series is lacking in a lot of aspects, it still had a wonderful chance to sent some heathy and worthwhile message about relationships and self concepts at the end. but makers had to shit the bed.

its ending tomorrow so you can binge it if you decide to check it out :)

'Kairos' definitely flew under the radar. that shortseries was nice too.
I read some more comments on this website's forum about MBC network's condition. I don't think they're giving up. they're trying to build it back up. giving chance to new screenwriters and directors. there's a series coming out next month 'The Veil' (https://kisskh.at/680385-black-sun). looks like it has a good production value with a rookie writer :/

hey. check out 'On the verge of Insanity' (https://kisskh.at/67305-not-crazy). to put it simply, its a dramedy centered around lives of 2 middle aged office workers. I'm trying to spread some good word about this series.

Is it just me or Choi Ban seok seems to have developed feelings for Dang Jayoung?
they'll probably hint at some romance in last ep :/
