Last month I started iQIYI’s SILENT TIDES. because of the subject matter. I had never watched a Ren Jia Lun drama until ST. I found the first 5 episodes set in Hong Kong and the transition to Macau fascinating. However I put ST on hold to watch Youku’s powerful MAN’S INHUMANITY TO MAN. A couple of days ago I returned to SILENT TIDES. I am looking forward to continuing with the story. Nice to see ST is getting such a positive reaction here.
Completed watching MAN’S INHUMANITY TO MAN today. A powerful drama difficult to watch but obviously a labor of love. Director Lao Suan has produced another masterpiece (after his 2024 Youku drama ESCAPE FROM THE TRILATERAL SLOPES). A special shoutout to actor Zhang Yu whose portrayal of Arakawa Ryohei (speaking fluent japanese and chinese) will be long remembered. Thank you to the fan subber whose english subs allowed me to watch this drama.
More power to Kang Tae-oh! There may be a direct correlation between his decision not to drink alcohol AND (from the article): “Kang Tae Oh is among those few actors who have never been embroiled in controversy”.
Will the original spoken language in THE UNUSUAL PROSECUTOR be cantonese (here’s hoping)? Will Youku provide proper english subs unlike the total mess it made of the subbing of MAN’S INHUMANITY TO MAN (only to be bailed out by great subs from a fan)?
Wang Jing Chun here and in Ordinary Greatness shows what a good actor he is. Of course same goes for Zhang Ruo…
US viewer. Fwiw. In 2022 I first subscribed to iQIYI so I could watch Zhang Ruo Yun in ORDINARY GREATNESS. He gave a fantastic performance as did Wang Jing Chun. I am eagerly awaiting ORDINARY GREATNESS 2. Late 2023 into 2024 Zhang Ruo Yun gave another wonderful in Youku’s THE HOPE where he played a high school teacher to a class of misfits. Great cast of young actors.
Note for just in case. I hope folks are watching the credits after each episode to the point where recordings from the 1949 Khabarovsk War Crimes Trials are run. I have watched through episode 6.
Difficult little drama to pigeon hole. I really like how this found family came together but it turns out Kube was maybe too young and easy manipulated to balance the needs of all the company members. Ultimately he was the one on the outside. Kind of sad.
I think she’s meant to be. She ceases every opportunity that comes to her and doesn’t mind stomping on others.…
Very good performance by Nikaido Fumi because her character was probably the most unappealing of the lot. At the end when Rika was pontificating about how the poor really can’t understand their circumstances unless they had previously experienced wealth, I thought, ‘this one is something else’. I guess love is blind vis-a-vis Kube.
After a hiatus I returned to PRAY yesterday with episode 8 and episode 9 tonight. Beside the opening episode I would say episode 9 is my favorite. ‘A play that goes wrong’ indeed but the new found theater family pulled it off. Looking forward to episodes 10 and 11 this weekend.
US viewer. Availability angst assuaged! MBC’s THE JUDGE RETURNS is now on Viki US’s “Coming Soon” list. Good news for US drama availability because it seems Viki US and HBO Max can peacefully coexist in kdramaland.

Didn’t Long Yu while sitting by the statue say to Gao Feng (paraphrasing) something like, “With you I am always fighting the law of attraction.”? Long Yu obviously is crazy about the guy.
Viki US has picked up LIGHT OF DAWN? Better late than never! Thank you Viki. FYI Viki US has another Tencent X Theater drama available. The excellent 2023 historical mystery RIPE TOWN (Bai Yu Fan). Highly recommended.
