Yes we borrow the characters and their lives for a short while, when they are on air. And after that we say goodbye.
Right on! You hit the nail on the head.
From XZ i also learn that we have one real life which we need to give priority to- but we can still enjoy experiences of other types of lives through dramas. For him, he gets to experience multiple types of lives through the different characters he plays. I read somewhere, how much he treasures this gift of experiencing multi-verses in his one lifetime.
someone mentioned about heathy or not to be so emotionally invested in a drama. My take on that:
when the drama is over, we let go. just like when XZ finish filming his shows, he will say goodbye to his character- like saying goodbye to a real person.
from him, i also learn, when the drama is over- i let go. Enjoy what the drama brings- the sweet feelings, the happiness, sadness ... then when time comes, let go- should be ok? (healthy).
can revisit too, if want.

GuLin's romantic gestures- feel so real. head holding , hair stroking, face rubs, ear playing, nose rub (almost), tender hugging, side glances, tender looks, eye to eye gazes, her jumping into his arms, playing with her eye lashes (will we get butterfly kisses next??), carrying her, piggy-backs, and lately those natural, warm and sweet kisses one after another... and XZ's ears turning red!πππ
..and becoz he is a doctor: gently treating her wounds (she seems quite accident prone).
If not for the three year gap between filming and now, i would think the GuLin CP is real.
(XZ is that good an actor that he is able to immerse himself into his roles to make all his CPs feel real- but the reality is that they are not! including past CPs of his previous dramas). and so we get to enjoy with him a new CP every time he has a new role. i like that.
Xiao Zhan's face and especially eyes are so expressive. I mean he demonstrates this in every drama, but damn there's…
Well said indeed. Watching TOOL with this community also enriched my viewing. Sometimes i miss out on those little gestures and expressions which u mentioned until i read it in the comments here - then i go back and relook. eg. u mentioned his look when being called an elder by Mr Lin was priceless - i missed that, so re-watching for it.
The cuteness of the main CP is what the drama is all.about... its just so cute. They shine in every frame theyre…
as so many of us have said, the chemistry between the main CP is just so amazing. If this drama had been aired immediately after filming in 2019, imagine the gossip that would have been generated of their real life CP. But after 3 years, clearly that didn't happen in real life.
He can do ice-cold personas too, you should see him in Joy of Life, where he's a deeply infiltrated spy with a…
Thanks for the background story on Joy of Life. I didn't bother with it coz XZ wasn't the main role. but the way you described him got me intrigued. I want to see his portrayal as an ice-cold character.
I enjoyed his performance as Xiao Fan in Jade Dynasty but couldn't put a finger on why I liked it until u described him as silly and clumsy. He was that and so lovable- very different from Wei Ying, the little sparrow.
I am currently half way in on Duolou Continent, and his portrayal of Tang San as this innocent do-gooder was excellent, again so different from the wily and mischievous Wei Ying.
btw, your comment on Wei Ying's chemistry with the wine bottle, bunny, donkey and flute caught my attention- so spot on. π
Thanks for introducing Zhang Rou Yun. M sure I will now enjoy Joy of Life more with your input about him.

But am not complaining too much lo - coz without this weird contract between them, TOOL might not have been aired.
