Altho I do agree that they shouldve explain more on that, but from what I understand the 4 months that passed means Nubsib's contract as an actor finally end (as mentioned by him during their meeting) so hes no longer tied and can finally stop being an actor, thus they can finally get back together. I believe that Gene knows abt it but chose to ignore it, and hes not the one who tried to find Nubsib again after that 4 months maybe bcs hes afraid Nubsib will be angry at him for their break up. Thats why Nubsib is the one who went to Gene. As for Nubsib not ever being angry towards Gene, he actually did, well... at least once during their break up scene when he shouted at Gene for not ever caring abt his feelings (from what I remember) which Gene proceed saying he want to break up bcs he cares abt him. So from these scenes and also their sudden getting back together scene, I just conclude that maybe during that 4 months, Nubsib realized that theres no other way for the problem to be handled but to break up, and so he went back to Gene right after the 4 months ended.
