TK and YD are fighting because they are trying to adjust to their situation. TK is used to being alone - that…
Oh that analysis is spot on, love it. Like at first glance it was very uncharacteristic of him to lash out at YD and draw such extreme lines between them like he did after everything they have been through together. But it is part frustration with his current new living situation/unwelcome reminder what could have been while meeting SJ and part him being defensive/pushing her away to protect himself. Since you know she has the innate talent to get under his skin with her questions and sharp observations. It rattles him and deflecting or/an lashing out is easier than to stop and think about *why* that is, after all. Heh. He is cautious and not ready to open up to her like she asked him to. Hence why he momentarily downgraded their relationship to business partners. Conceal don't feel :D
That is, of course, on top of his toxic, abusive fam having done such a number on him emotionally while growing up and living in such stifling conditions ever since. No wonder the man struggles to commit longterm to a partner and is kinda running circles while screaming in panic atm haha. We will see more of it next week too with him going full on NOPE on his new role for and "complicated relationship" w/ YD. But he/they will come out of it stronger, since he is well reflected/emotionally intelligent (in spite of everything) after his temper has cooled off. He is caring and empathic. Always owning his mistakes too and apologizing quickly when needed. All good signs that he is more well-adjusted than you would think him to be after/while living in such a toxic environment. Just needs time to adjust to all the changes, is all.
YD's fam is all but perfect either, but scenes with them feel like vacation atm and incidentally those are the only ones where you see both of them smiling (and at each other at that, cuties) So while they gotta learn to live together of course i also hope that they get the chance to get out of that stifling and gaudy annex house more often. They are way more at ease in those times. I think in the future they probably will get their own place away from there. Together. Heh.
Oh, btw, no need to complain about their absence, people. You just know that Goblin and trashbin ex are going to be a match made in the deepest rings of hell and come back in a package deal to be obnoxious together in scheming against the main reason we all are still watching despite a trillion asshole characters- the leads. But until then we hopefully get some R&R from their poisonous presence (btw, does joseon granny fancy a journey too? Not sure if they let demons into the USA, but since Sejin seems to be going....)
Obviously the drama focuses atm on their first days living together, which is why it seems we are currently imprisoned in this goddamn awfully furnished house with decoration straight from the 1980 walmart backyard bargain bin and its lunatic inmates. But so are the leads, so we are at least not alone in feeling trapped and murderous whenever some idiotic family member opens their mouth to accuse Yeondoo, when she dares to do as much as breathing. Which basically was the theme of this weeks' episodes: The uncomfortable bed, or rather the even more uncomfortable chair, we made for ourselves and have now to lie and also live in it. And with a blood-obsessed vampire next door whose every second word is "illegitimate/legitimate" in regards of the people unfortunate enough to be related to her, at that. As though she is tasked with picking an heir for the throne, but that is a story for another joseon time and historical kdrama π
Predictably Yeondoo's and Taekyun's first attempt at playing not (yet) husband and wife goes terribly. Also TK unhelpfully throws his voice into the chorus of accusing YD of wrongdoing. So Yeondoo has the worst time and probably imagines thousand ways in her head to kill them all, while actually smiling and nodding to whatever inane shit they are saying to her. I know i would. Too bad her outburst at the 84 yrs old toddler was just a sike of the writers tho. A shame she hasn't strangled that jealous cow of a sister in law either, she actually could blame it on raging pregnancy hormones afterwards. Would at least keep that cow from leaking any info to granny as though she is a US government worker with security clearance and a discord server. Ah well. I also do wonder how In Ok has strangled no one to death in their sleep either. They would deserve it tenfold. Luckily for them, the level of patience this woman has for their constant bullshit is over 9000 and only rivaled by Yeondoos rn.
TK was really unfair to her for way too long, but at least he possesses a brain and empathy unlike his ghouly step siblings (minus his little sister) and is quick to recognize and rectify his mistakes made out of his own frustration with the situation. It is a theme we are going to see further next week, since our man is going through a bit of an understandable existential crisis with those 100 changes in his live a minute and thus will be momentarily cosplaying as Frozen's Elsa (Conceal don't feel, don't let them... her knoooow) But i am looking forward to see his slow descent starting from the current "let me out LET ME OUT" into "Huh it is not so bad after all" into the end level "I love this life, my kid and my wife and if you touch any of them i will kill anyone in this room <3" happening. For now, it is a very work in progress tho.
They are still cute af tho, even when they are at each others throats atm. YD is so good for him, she tells him exactly what he needs to hear in order to get his head out of his ass again. TK is hot and cold right now like in the Katy Perry song or a moody teenager, with his emotions an equal mess to that of his pregnant not (yet) wife. The (gentle)man doth protest too much already when it comes to how they should not exchange those icky feelings and thoughts, methinks. Thus by now i am very much certain that TK is gonna fall first and so hard his ears won't stop ringing for a week or two. And I will so enjoy his eventual character level up to bestest, devoted husband, because he has shown some glimpses of that here and there already, And no doubt, It will be cute as heck.
Speaking of neverending theme/broken records: My favorite part outside the leads is Taekyung's many many ways to tell banshee mini me Sejin how much he fucking detests every single thing about her, every time anew. And his array of glares and death stares accompanying it. It is like the genderswitched version of the song "she fucking hates me" is playing muffled in the bg whenever he meets her. (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RDI187v1Jao) Not long anymore and he will dry-heave at her very sight. Make it happen, writers! We long since know that Goldie Golddigger's logic does not resemble earth logic, but i actually was still wondering what telling YD that she liked TK was supposed to achieve, lmao. Especially since he sooner will gorge his eyes out with a rusty chopstick than to believe ANYTHING that comes out of her lying liar's mouth. In the end it only added fuel to the blazing flame of hatred already burning inside of Taekyung for her. Maybe it will help him to come up with new creative ways to insult her the next time she crosses their ways, and inevitably uttering her eternal lurve (???) for him. I swear Sejin is not a basket case, she is a whole upside-down furniture trashdump.
I guess YD could have really needed a basket though to stow away the too easily accessible diary laying there for the grabs as delusional NEVER EVER wife rifled through their home like a raccoon through a trashbin. But oh well, the plot gotta plotting on, so characters need to be braindead sometimes for this to happen. Especially when your plot is basically on a "two very different but lovable people have to move together into a snakepit of a house full of lunatics stuck in Joseon times ready to murder each other at moment's notice to earn their old bat ruler's grace, and eventually fall in love" wattpad level. I reeeeeallly dunno why this nonsense is so addicting to watch, but it indeed is. THUS I CANT WAIT FOR NEXT WEEK OF MORE SCREECHING AND CONVENIENTLY PLACED PLOT DEVICE ITEMS TO CREATE CONFLICTSβ’οΈ π₯³π₯³π₯³π₯³
Am I the only one who thinks that Kang Han Su is the sageuk version of Jack Sparrow?
Omg i was about to post this a couple of days ago and did not because i thought naaah that is too far out there and silly xD But glad to know i am not alone in this π His gesturing with shoe in hands as he explains things in eps 8, or simply the way Do Hwan bears himself and walks/flees from enemies while throwing his bestie under the proverbial bus to save himself as Kang Su and his high chaos energy in general is really similar to the odd captain haha (just more sober π)
Yeah, as i said i find the prospect of their possible romance uncomfortable due to such a huge power imbalance…
Yeah we went with bo ra through all the messy stages of breakup but we actually know very little about the former relationships, particularly SH's with his ex. We only have that radio thingie that is far too one-sided and makes him look like a jerk. I bet his ex was equally as shitty in communication or otherwise she would not have been quiet for so long in their relationship. Always takes two to tango, after all.
btw i love how the term "joseon granny" has become sorta MDL canon btw. My proudest achievement ππ (it fits just to well to this old bat, sorry not sorry xD)
Yeah, as i said i find the prospect of their possible romance uncomfortable due to such a huge power imbalance…
oh of course so far it is platonic and i really hope it stays this way with SJ remaining a bit distant despite her crushing on him. And sure it is her... weird taste but it ain't appropriate working clothes either. That dress is suited for a maid cafe or her free day, not the office. And it looked as tho SJ "forced" her to wear it which is bound to create illicit rumors and connotations with his employees. (Hence why Soo Hyuk reacted in this way.) SJ is a kind boss, but he needs to learn to set better boundaries with the girl mooning over him in order to avoid that.
Am i the only one who feels something of with uri and the CEO's interaction.I mean i won't call it creepy but…
Yeah, as i said i find the prospect of their possible romance uncomfortable due to such a huge power imbalance between them, her very apparent naivety, their difference in (life) experience and her ppl pleasing tendencies, plus her being so star struck with her boss to begin with. Honestly SH's reaction to see her dressed like this and everything else was also my reaction. It is damn weird instead of cute.
She hadn't returned the annex house key/forgot it. She says it and the camera pans on to it too in her hands.…
Yeah it is contrived tbh. i call it "plot dumb" aka characters acting uncharacteristically stupid in order to move the plot forward/bc the plot demands it. Which is the case here and tbh the plot ain't that deep to begin with, so they gotta take/create any conflict whenever possible lol.
The script getting illogical and contrivved. How can an outsider enter the main house and then the annex so easily?…
She hadn't returned the annex house key/forgot it. She says it and the camera pans on to it too in her hands. Hence she had entrance to the side house (their home is separate from the main house) with it and used it to snoop around. It is very common kdrama trope/cheap plot device. Point is that goblin had no business intruding in the leads' home in the first place (they were not at home/with her family) but ofc she still did. Hence why she found the very well-presented maternal book on the desk... bc kdrama characters never put away their things safely , lol.
So sheβs going to US then coming back (in 3 months or a year?)?
Oh yeah for sure, well said. This takes a lot getting used to, but i look forward to his character arc that means acceptance and even loving that "new life" because it will be his source of comfort/support, aka us against everyone else. Like the two episodes have shown now they are obviously not there yet and making their lives more difficult for each other additionally to everything else. But it is a process and i am actually prefer it that everything does not work out magically between them just bc they moved in together/are "destined to be" as leads
So sheβs going to US then coming back (in 3 months or a year?)?
yeah that makes actually sense as it is worst in the first trimester. So i hope she is being smooort with it heh. Yeah here is hoping she will leave to the USA after all. Not sure how those two terrible human wastebins gonna meet there since USA is not a village in size lmao, but i am sure the drama makes it look like it is and the will run into each other by chance lol. Hence the scheming will commence there. Maybe we do get a small time jump, even? I think they could do that after the leads fell in lurve or something.
Meanwhile TK is trying his best for his not yet/really wife, but is having a bit of an existential crisis with suddenly being both husband/father in everyone elses eyes. I think it is normal to run a bit in circles screaming mentally, even if he chose that as package deal to get out of a much worse one. But it takes adjusting to after living on his own for so long, for sure.
yeah, it is basically the overarching plot this season with the police corruption and criminal organizations,…
i am not korean so i would not know hehe. But as far as i gathered, they do struggle with at least some systematic corruption like unfortunately everywhere in the world. Their justice system seems a bit f-up too and way too lenient with punishments in general, but especially toward powerful/rich ppl. See Seungri, for example.
that sis in law cow is worse with snitching than a kindergarten kid. She found out that her in laws plan a divorce…
Ooooh. I found a preview with hangul subs on twitter, so that is easier. So basically while he makes an effort TK is also struggling and feels suffocated in this "difficult" relationship of theirs, bc he has to be husband and father all at once. Which logically makes no sense as this is what he agreed to, but seeing it from a human pov... he struggles to adjust to so many changes at once. Guess especially for someone who loved their freedom and being on their own before (given how his family excluded him to the point where he is not even trying anymore) it does not surprise he needs time to adjust to that. And it is not a 2 days and then everything is well deal either.
That is, of course, on top of his toxic, abusive fam having done such a number on him emotionally while growing up and living in such stifling conditions ever since. No wonder the man struggles to commit longterm to a partner and is kinda running circles while screaming in panic atm haha.
