Then Xiang Yun returns to present day heaven, confronts Hao Xuan, exposes her identity (because CK doesn't return to stop her), and presumably HX kills her. The end. Meanwhile, CK goes through another loop, and repeatedly gain more memories of each cycle when we saw his flashbacks. This repeats god knows how many times (each cycle being slightly different because CK is never identical to his previous version because he's technically experiencing more and more) until this time, when he manages successfully activate the compass and saves XY in the present day. And I think the compass was necessary because CK technically doesn't die 30000 years ago, so it had to be something else that can get him to return to the present.
Just finished EP21 and I have to say, I really love the writing for this drama. In a typical cdrama, someone would've proposed breaking up or secretly tried to make decisions for the other person behind their back.
