Korean and Chinese dramas lately try so hard to replicate great foreign hit shows as Dark or Sherlock and they…
I think that K-dramas still have to abide by certain standards set by their tv station, and the tastes of their domestic audiences first. I also think that the only sci-fi K-drama that explained and properly used their rules and abided by them till the end was Nine: 9 Time Travels. Generally speaking, sci-fi tends to be a hard genre to tackle Western or not because you've to be very meticulous with your rules/time, if not the whole thing fails. A+ for Effort, but I think that the only way I can see a sci-fi K-drama be up to par with Western counterpart is a co-production between Korea+Hollywood or Korea+Europe lol. I seen Girl/Haji/Westworld (With their Japan storyline), Lovecraft County (Gumiho) tackle it in interesting/new ways.

JUSTICE FOR MIN-HYUK!!! This show really should have from the start been centered on his character and his relationship with Tae-yi. Adding Jin-gyeom to the mix only complicated things. I would have even been ok with it, if Joo Won played Min Hyuk's role as the main lead b/c that's how much I loved Kwak Si Yang's portrayal of YMH in Alice, that I feel they wasted his efforts. A for effort, but D for execution. If anything, bravo to the actors who brought their A+ game. They truly made this show watchable when things gone astray, my hats off to them!! I've become fans of all of them as a result!

What the ever loving f**k did I just watch??? I was hoping for a Tunnel or Nine ending, but this just ended poorly in terms of the overall narrative. UGH. The first 15 episodes were amazing and the first 40 minutes of Ep 16 was going somewhere, until the last 10 minutes...

I noticed him in Lie After Lie and thanks to that, I'm watching My Healing Love... let me just say I'm absolutely…
Right? He's quite handsome in an old guy way, and I'm glad he's finally found a role again that makes him look this way!

I see Dark being referenced a lot here. What failed here in Alice? Was it the intricate time related stuff that…
Even though Alice was pre-written and pre-produced before the airing, I can tell the writer got way too complex with their storyline in the middle to last part.

Maybe in a yr or so, the writers/PD can clarify on what happened during the process. Unless SBS meddled in and added certain things that swayed from their original storyline. Oh well...

Whenever he time travels, he is actually creating an alternate universe. When he went back to 2010 by accident…
Yeah. I didn't either until someone pointed it out. I guess the mysterious figure in the dark in Ep 1 was that person.

I think comedy is not his strong suit. He really should do a romantic melodrama next! That is, if any body is going to give him a ML.

Thanks for answering! I def. think that Dark having 3 seasons and a shorter runtime help the show tremendously then Alice which has longer runtime and is only 1 season. Had the show been 2 season or so, maybe it could've been saved or properly explained. It's a shame b/c the idea/plot of Alice is super compelling/intricate.

However, I give my hats off to Alice team for trying to do a Korean Dark, even if they didn't reach that potential, it still tried for a lack of a better term. And for that, my congrats to them.

soo basically he's going back in time to fix everything from the beginning...so we're going to get like a short…
I think that people's issue with this show is also the fact that the main characters could just go back in time to ret-con everything, but that would mean things would end in 5-10 minutes lol. This would be a compelling idea as a film imo. Plus Ep 1-15 landed us in the same conclusion, the ripple effect from Ep 1-15 just showed the same thing which was tragedy.

It's a sad thing, a time loop so to say. I'm just confused on the fact that our ML time traveling has created multiple alternate universes, so he can't go into one where his parents/loved ones are still alive?? But that would mean his mom would continue dying.

1. I'm confused. Can he do both time travel and alternate universe travel?2. I feel like a re-watch is needed…
Whenever he time travels, he is actually creating an alternate universe. When he went back to 2010 by accident through the time card in Ep 5 or 6?, he ended up going to a parallel universe where Tae-yi was a college aged student.

2. IA lol. I think that I want to do a re-watch when its done, and see if knowing the things we know by the end will help to clarify or at least make the journey that Ep 1-15 took as worthwhile.

And btw this drama seems like it tried to replicate DarK (an amazing german show in netflix with 3 superb seasons)…
I see Dark being referenced a lot here. What failed here in Alice? Was it the intricate time related stuff that wasn't explained properly? Too many pointless scenes? Thanks.

Person Kwak Shi Yang
It's not about how long you're on-screen for, but the impact you've in those scenes. And to me, Kwak Si Yang's role as Min-hyuk in Alice exemplified that for me. What a perfect role for him to play. He did action, drama, a bit of melodrama romance, and sci-fi all in one show! Hope this is a stepping stone to bigger things! #BestHotDadEver #DILF

I'm such an idiot for clicking on the spoilers lmfao :// Dark K-drama version?? Very ambitious but you got to hand it to SBS/Alice writers/PD for attempting to make one even if they fall short. It's better than the same thing over/over again.

1 ep left..This drama was heartbreaking..Time Travel cost alot of lives, what an unfair
I think that's been the moral of the whole show. Detective Ko's last words to be in the present and enjoy the now has been the overall message. If you think about it, having so much control and power only created wreckage and sadness in the aftermath. It's a film that's been drawn out into a 16 hour plus show. Take out the filler scenes/episodes and edit it into a shorter length, and the runtime will be much smoother but the message and action will remain the same.

It was indeed the Korean version of German series Dark. Please vented, whined, and how ugly they felt for a romance…
Ooh all the comparisons to Dark have spoiled Dark for me lmao. However, for better or for worse, gotta say they tried to make something ambitious and unique in K-drama land. And for that, I will applaud their efforts to do so. It was refreshing in a way, to have a K-drama that tried to do something new. I hope we can see someone tackle a project like this again in the future.

Huh? The character or the actor lol?

Agency power is very important, as well as establishing connections with PD/Writers/Directors. A lot of it also has to do with timing, luck, and opportunity. So KSY might not get a lead role next year, but I could definitely see him headline a cable drama in the next 2 yrs.

It's a big bummer that his role in Alice wasn't as expanded as I wish it had been. However, I still feel like his role was well written and left a lasting impression on me and the audience judging by K-netizens who wrote that they seen him in Second to Last Love, and didn't like his role there. But in Alice, they state that he's dripping with charm.

C/P K-Netizen comments on him: "When an actor meets a good character, they shine and here, Kwak Siyang's character is so mesmerising. While his chemistry with Kim Heeseon was short, it was so emotional and it hooked me." "Kwak Siyang really did well with his role. He's perfect for the role of Minhyuk." "Actors seem to become likeable or unlikeable depending on the character they play ㅡ When Kwak Siyang played the younger man that Kim Hee-Ae liked (T/N: in the drama Second To Last Love) he wasn't great.. but in this drama, he's dripping with charms."

Hopefully it'll come soon, K-drama/K-entertainment land is so up/down and whoever is hot rn gets the chances. It's a constant uphill battle to remain relevant :// KSY impressed me in Alice big time, never did before but wow here different story. Hope this show leads to bigger projects down the line, b/c dude has the potential but it needs to happen sooner than later or else he'll too old to get a leading role that's not a daily/weekend show.

I assume lack of agency power, debuting later than others, doing bit roles, and lacking a role that gave him lasting power on the audiences? Never cared for him in other stuff, but here woah dude has major presence.

Sometimes actors have to choose so they don't get left behind, and I could def. see how KSY is choosing whatever is being offered to him. Hopefully, someone will give him a chance and give him a Leading Role in a dramatic melodrama or romance drama!! Hope he won't be like a Lim Ju Hwan, constantly getting 2nd ML roles for decades :// If so, it'll be a shame b/c he's shining hard here!
