Title Dear X Spoiler
What's the character role of Kim Young Dae?In synopsis it is mentioned of Kim You Jung but no mention of Kim Young…
Both Ajin's father and her stepmother were abusive towards her. One day, Junseo happened to witness his mother abusing the young Ajin. He was already fond of her before that but ever since that incident, he started hating his mother and devoted himself entirely to Ajin. He would do anything she asked of him except outright murder. And so, he was always there to support her as she ruthlessly stepped over others in pursuit of fame and success.

Junseo did love Ajin but it was a very toxic and unhealthy sort of love, heavily influenced by years of manipulation, gaslighting and guilt-tripping from Ajin's end. While Ajin was comfortable around Junseo and tried not to let him get in harm's way, she never really loved him. For her, he was just a tool in the 3d chess that she was playing — a means to an end. That's why I don't consider it to be a romance.

Ajin also seduced an idol for fame and then broke up with him as soon as she felt that he was becoming a hindrance to her image and career. Mind you, she left him at a time when he was already struggling with the grief of his grandmother's death. Ultimately, this pushed him in such a dark corner that he ended up committing suicide.

The other guy was Kim Jaeo, Ajin's school-fellow. He truly loved Ajin and was ready to do ANYTHING for her because she was the only person who understood him and helped him when he murdered his abusive father. It can be argued that Jaeo was the only person towards whom Ajin felt even an inkling of empathy because she could relate to the fact that he was a victim of parental abuse too. Even then, Ajin left him for a richer guy when the opportunity came.

Then she briefly dated a chaebol with the intention to marry. This plotline was quite interesting because the guy turned out to be quite similar to Ajin. He was smart and saw right through her — it was the first time we saw someone that was two steps ahead of Ajin. Then again, he too left her when Ajin was exposed for her dark past because it threatened his reputation.

The point of Dear X was never the romance. It was simply the story of Ajin who had no qualms about ruining the lives of those around her if it meant getting what she wanted. As I said, romance wasn't the focus but rather it was used as a plot device to show Ajin's true character.

whew that was a lot. But I just love discussing my favourite pieces of media haha

Any Happy ending watcher forget this drama.Rom + Story watcher just watch then be happy🙃
I'd say this one isn't for the romance fans either. Romance isn't the focus in the webtoon. Rather, it is used as a plot device to show how twisted the FL is.

I have a feeling they will focus more on the romance in the drama though. If that turns out to be the case then I'll be highly disappointed since this story does not need any more romance than it already has.

The romance and melodrama tags are making nervous. The original webtoon was anything but 😭

Kim Youngdae plays Junseo who's Ajin's stepbrother. He is deeply attached to Ajin and feels obligated to stick with her due to *spoilers*. That's why he assists Ajin in all her twisted antics. I can elaborate more on their dynamic if you don't mind spoilers.

Are there 4 more male leads?who is the main male lead?
If we're talking about major characters that are present in all the arcs, then there is one more other than Junseo (who will be played by Kim Youngdae). The other male characters, while essential to the story, had limited presence as compared to these two.

It sounds disturbing, and toxic. Not to mention it "teaches" people that Sociopaths are probably only misunderstood…
What? I've read the webtoon and it is probably one of the most informed takes I've seen on sociopathy. There is little to no romance in the webtoon (unless they decide to change that in the kdrama).

I don't know what to think but I feel like this could be so toxic (I hope I'm wrong)
As someone who has read the webtoon, it will be really toxic. But it's a well-executed and well-plotted story. It felt like watching a car-crash: you couldn't tear your eyes away despite all the destruction.

The best comment section to avoid spoilers is Reddit, they are hardcore on the kdrama subreddit https://www.reddit.com/r/KDRAMA/comments/1d5ff9p/the_atypical_family_episodes_9_10/?sort=new
Exactly, r/Kdrama is my go-to for discussions of dramas that I haven't yet completed

This has been making me a little mental: MDL has the wrong name for the daughter. They spell it Yi Na but it should…
'Y' (and 'L')is often used as a placeholder for 이 as far as romanization of Korean names are concerned. For example, Im Siwan is also spelled as Yim/Lim Siwan

I don't understand something. Towards the end, she turns back time to have them never met. But in the beginning…
It is heavily implied that Seonjae did not commit suicide in the original timeline..Rather, he was pushed by someone.

The Chun Woohee effect is real! I first saw her in The 8 Show and despite me being frustrated and annoyed by her character, I couldn't hate her. Here she plays a scammer and yet, I've loved her character since episode 1

Hey I just wanted to drop in and tell you to not take the hate too seriously. Those people are just a bunch of lowlifes who are way too hung up over a fictional drama (and this comes from someone who adored LR to bits). You are entitled to your own opinion — don't let anyone tell you otherwise!
