Li muge had a lot of hype but biggest criticism seems to be people don't know what he was doing with this storyline. this author's works are known to be badly adapted (the four) unfortunately consensus seems to be this is following the trend. I don't think this is considered big budget (it's an a-tier production) although director used the available budget on real scenes which definitely makes things look pretty.. a lot of people felt like trailer > drama.
wuxia is in a weird place...recent wuxia has done pretty bad, the two you pointed AD and WOH are literally the only ones out of the many remakes and new wuxia to be rated well. And AD is considered adjacent/detective and very low viewership. and pretty much all of them start with low viewership so all the people who clamor for wuxia are not showing up (handsome siblings, love in between, HSDS, new condor, etc). which means real wuxia is being less and less made...a cycle
