May I ask did you see it subbed, and if so, where did you see it?
Can you explain the ending? I watched it unsubbed because I couldn't handle the wait any longer. It seems as though the mother maybe kept them apart, no?
Okay, so I binged this, and I like it. It's not on the FIS kind of level as I felt the acting/chem was on another level, but what honestly drew me in was the father and his adoration for the kids unlike Table. Then, I started to like the kids and their bond.
This seems to have more heart at times while Man Who Sets is more in your face kind of drama, but Ru Ri is my fave female out of both of them TBH. That actress just speaks to me.
Talk about a slow burn though with the romance. lol
I agree that Ji Soo needs to get the upper hand already with her crush. Enough is enough the shy, having trouble talking to him needs to be elevated to her having a makeover and more mature about it. The Pippi look is popular I've noticed (had it in Strongest too).
It has the guy from Playful Kiss (second lead) too who I felt was a better actor overall because let's face it those Kiss franchise shows it's hard to say otherwise. I like the couple and their story.
It has my fave male lead from Age of Youth the first one at least, and he's just as sweet in this. When he got all upset watching his sister being abused made me bawl. Made me remember why he was so endearing in Age of Youth in the first place.
The mothers are just something else. I did get her reasoning at first, but now she's exploiting the whole thing. Also, did the SIL kidnap Ji Soo while she was in the car, or was that just in her imagination? :| She seems suspect about that whole thing, but maybe I just don't like her. lol
I really grew to like Ji Ahn a lot. The actress I remember from She Is Pretty, and this is nothing like that character. She honestly has chem with both male leads, but my heart would break if Si Joo found out about Woo Hyuk. I have been dreading that for so long, so I don't think I would ever be for that relationship chem or no chem. I said to myself when it was revealed she was the daughter that I bet this is a red herring because she's the Ru Ri of this drama. lol Sure enough...
The male lead Do Kyung is very interesting and different looks, personality. I love when he has this sensitive side where he can't help but cave in for whatever reason. He still has the upper crust chaebol attitude, but he also has this warm heart underneath the breeding. I think his father is like that too, and I wish we got to see more of him because I like him better than the mother. :P
The meet the parents scene was so hilarious. lol I loved the special effect sounds they used. His idea of telling his mom was using a selfie? LMFAO He's so different from any other character I've seen on a drama so far. I am eager to see his father though because I wonder what kind of person he is.
I'm gonna take up for Ho Rang. If a man in a long-term relationship doesn't know what she wants by that point, it's not just on her but both of them. Her attitude was horrible, and I wasn't like that about marriage (my husband was more like that), so I can't relate. However, I feel that it's only natural at this point for him to say, oh, wait, she wants to get married, but he instead takes advice from the eternal single guy (big mistake). lol
Is this worth to watch? There is more sweet moments between the main characters?
Much better!! I felt the men were almost emotionally abusive at times in those or unbelievably cold, and he's nothing like that although when he starts to get jealous, he can be a little rude at times. He flicks her head a few times which I do not like, but again, this is due to his frustration about coming to term with his feelings, so you have to look at it from that perspective.
Also, these two are betrothed since before birth, so when he come to see her/live there, her parents reintroduce her to her fiance. lol This kind of dies down after a bit, and they start to let them navigate on their own with the relationship (mom even pushes for second lead male when he comes into the picture).
Shao Xi is not a helpless female, has her own world away from his/aspirations, and while she's not the most motivated when it comes to her studies, she's not an idiot either. Her motivations are more with track/sports as you will see.
One initial scene that really sticks out is he says to her everyone feels sorry for me, and she's all I don't feel sorry for you, so don't play that card with me. lol See, he likes that because everyone steps on eggshells around him because he went through such a traumatic event, and she's different. That starts off their bonding.
Also, this is actually the first guy to make her feel like she's not just this tough girl (her nickname was Brother Zhong in high school). She blossoms really from his affections/attention as far as becoming more feminine/maturing in that sense. She's actually quite sensitive, and Joanne IMHO is one of the best actresses in Taiwanese dramas when it comes to playing vulnerability.
He does offer to help her study, and HE puts in the idea of taking her to the movies if she does well. He makes moves towards her not her stalking to him to make the moves which at times again I felt we rarely saw in the Kiss franchise.
And they are actually friends not just her panting after him like a love sick puppy although she does develop a crush almost immediately. lol She doesn't initially tell him about her feelings. The bully of the class outs her, and Li Zheng is unbelievably sweet about it AND goes after the bully (be still my heart). He even tells the bully he won't let anyone make Shao Xi cry. He also starts gathering up anything about her feelings for him, which right there you know he feels something.
I'll tell you this he was in a car accident where his parents died, and he was traumatized by it cutting himself emotionally from the world due to it. The problem is he's such a loner that he can't recognize feelings beyond friends or familial, and he's kind of confused. The first person he's let into this closed off world besides his uncle I would guess since he did live with him is Shao Xi, but the uncle even says he's changed due to her. <3
Eventually, she does admit to her feelings, and that's when he says he feels very close to her, but he doesn't know if it's in the romantic sense (can't recognize it at that point clearly). He just knows he let her in and no one else, and she panics not wanting to pressure him or lose him and says let's just be friends (while secretly still liking him), and she'll find a way to get over her feelings. I think this is the bike riding scene which was really lovely as well.
Meanwhile, he's falling for her all the more, and then, the second male lead pops up, Jin Li. Li Zheng starts becoming possessive the second Jin Li wants to be around her. :)
He also takes her to see fireworks (ones he set up for her on his own as well) another very sweet/romantic scene, which the second lead was planning on taking her to see them but had a family obligation. She ends up getting drunk, and they almost share a kiss. Well, she practically leans in as she's confessing she still like him, and he really decides to go for it, but she busts him out! lol It's a really nice scene (lots of romantic chemistry).
Graduation day comes. She is determined to get rid of her feelings, but then, she asks for a gift which is a kiss and lays one on him! <3 He is about to tell her he likes her when the dad puts a wrench in his plans, so he backs off promising to be sure before he will tell her. She felt he was about to confess to her, but after the talk with her dad, he backs away to be completely sure of what he feels.
They have another impromptu kiss (love that scene), and she really feels confused while he's not really helping. He's sending major mixed signals (lots of sweet moments piggy back ride, holding her hand, taking care of her when sick, helping her study) with the way he acts and wants to be around her all the time. The second Jin Li shows her any attention, his possessiveness just can't be helped.
After that she says I'm going to college, and that will help me get over these feelings. Remember he said he was going to back away? Well, his idea of backing away is moving in next door to her and going to the same college (sort of similar to the Kiss franchise). Meanwhile, second lead not only knows his secret feelings, but he's pursuing her as well and moves in too/is already attending that same college. lol
So then he does finally back away even from their friendship while STILL living next door to her because Jin Li starts to call him out on his feelings, but Li Zheng is afraid of losing her so he backs away (which this episode is just nuts really). Either way he's going to lose her with that logic, but he really is a hot mess unable to be around her because Jin Li is really bringing his feelings into focus for him.
That lasts for an episode though. lol He can't really help himself when it comes to her and how he feels, but again only people who know this is Jin Li and her father and the x factor, Bai Bai.
There's another annoying blind date thing that goes on too, but once again you'll see him alone struggle with his feelings. He's not sitting there pretending he has no feelings. He just doesn't want to tell her just yet because he's scared.
BUT the issue NOW is the annoying x factor female, Bai Bai (yes like Kiss) who keeps pursuing him and KNOWS Li Zheng likes Shao Xi (right away I smelled a big ole rat with this one), and that's why we're kind of frustrated because she is a lying witch.
Li Zheng has told her repeatedly NOT interested, but Bai Bai keeps harassing and actually Shao Xi as well. Shao Xi doesn't know how to trust herself when it comes to him because he's sending out mixed signals (acts one way but says best friend), and this bitch is lying to her as well. Bai Bai is downright awful/unhinged that Li Zheng doesn't like her!
So last epi he finally did confess to Shao Xi after drinking, kissed her. He even bought her a necklace, but that necklace was a nightmare because of the problems it caused, but I am hoping it leads to a nice romantic scene with those two.
Bai Bai still is annoying and trying to push her feelings on Li Zheng even lying about sharing a kiss with him/him saying he told her like her which he only did with Shao Xi. He's outing her lie when Shao Xi walks up, and Bai Bai kisses Li Zheng on the cheek.
Now we're at the point Jin Li is going IMHO push them together. He is going to record Bai Bai and give it to Shao Xi. :) I think he likes Shao Xi so much that he's willing to sacrifice his own happiness just to see her happy thereby leaving him for the girl who is crushing on him as well.
BTW if you haven't seen My Little Lover, I think he's the best version besides this one when it comes to that type of character (has the most loving eyes), and just like Li Zheng, he has a traumatizing event in his life that makes him back away from the world. Plus, that lead is a great actor.
Li Zheng does have the cold eyes at times, but his actions speak very loudly, and he also has very loving looks towards her, so it's a better balance in terms of affection IMHO.
Is this worth to watch? There is more sweet moments between the main characters?
Definitely this is better than the Kiss franchise IMHO. It's a little at the point where they're trying to push the angst too far which is unfortunately a common occurrence with Taiwanese dramas, but what I love about it is the leads aren't split apart completely.
Refresh Man was a lot like this, and I liked it about that as well. Joanne is just really a great actress too, so that helps a lot. She is the main lead in both dramas BTW.
The chemistry is really nice and hits you right from the start, and for me I don't have second lead syndrome which I almost ALWAYS have had with the Kiss franchise. There are circumstances behind why he acts the way he does towards her, and he is also very protective of her no matter what which also adds a new layer to it.
If you've seen My Little Lover, it has shades of that in this as well. Both guys went through a traumatic event that caused them to shut down, but you always know they do care about the female. They are just afraid to show it completely which is the frustrating part of it. lol
I really wish to see Mike He and Rainie Yang collaborated again.
Same. :( He's married now, so people won't get the wrong idea about them, so I am hoping they end up doing something together again. I even had an idea for a sequel to DBY. If you saw her video she had with him in it, that chemistry still exists.
There is one particular scene in Scarlet where you really say, wow, who is this guy. There is something about Ji Soo where he kind of lies dormant at times in dramas just being a great part of the cast, and then, he comes alive, and you notice him in a way that is unforgettable.
I thought he was great in Doctors as well and phenomenal (ugh, he just kind waits around and then turns on this charm that you kind of lose your breath over watching) in Sassy. Wait, I'm not supposed to like you this much you say to yourself watching it. That takes talent IMHO.
It's time for him to start being first lead after Bong Soon. Again, he was just sitting there being that second lead, and then, boom, he starts to race horse with the first, but for me it was always going to be Park's character who won her heart in that. Still, that didn't mean Ji Soo wasn't making me get all those feels AGAIN.
If he accepts the role, put Yoon So Hee as the other lead. Those two have mad chemistry together! No offense to the other actress, but these two need to be in a drama together again.
Last episode was really torture at times, but at least we got a confession albeit when he was drunk and a romantic kiss (also liked when he said "Don't leave" to her and pulled her back very swoon worthy moment), BUT then, he HAD to reenact the kiss to make sure? That's a problem with Taiwanese dramas is they always ride that fence a little too long.
I do love the girls are not at each other's throats even if Jin Li wants Shao Xi over Angelina at the moment. The tough girl being protected by petite, girly one is adorable. Their friendship is a breath of fresh air.
Let's talk about Jin Li and how wonderful he has been since he finally saw how much Shao Xi still likes Li Zheng? I was so happy when he said he likes you too, so I don't get why there is this problem still. I know he's going to be behind busting out that Bai Bai (bitch is insane), so I am excited for that.
It's just the chemistry for me has always been with Shao Xi and Li Zheng which is why I think most of us are so frustrated. It's like within our grasp, but then, they snatch it away again.
The problem with this whole episode started with the purchasing of the necklace. I get he was doing it to surprise her and probably confess his feelings, but WHEN she confronted him about a gift for Bai Bai, he should have said, wait, I gave her the key chain. I don't fault Shao Xi for not trusting in her own instincts about him at this point. I think her reactions to him make perfect sense.
I really need the writers to give us a romantic moment with that necklace after the mess they put us through with it this last episode. I thought he would first give it to her haphazardly out of anger, and then, they could have a sweet moment where he puts it on her and kisses her.
Shao Xi in the previews saying liking someone is exhausting was so sad.
Did you notice he said "fall in love" to her about Jin Li? Her face was all who do you want me to fall in love with then, but I think she thought to herself why is he using that kind of language with me. lol That's the first time we've Li Zheng phrase it in that way.
That male lead is sexy as can be. I didn't mind his broken English. :D It was rather slow though, but there is a decent twist to it. I got half of it right while watching it. I'm definitely going to watch him again in something else.
Agree. I am dropping. She bugs and I find everything so over dramatic. Feels too much like a soap opera.
I think she didn't have a household where you spoke up, so she just takes abuse a lot which is sad, and now she has a job she really wants and wants to near Tae Yang as well.
I think right now we're seeing her start to find herself, but it probably won't come full circle until the end of the drama. She told off her brother, so that was a pretty big step for her standing up to her brother this episode and father as well.
Her BFF makes me laugh so hard, and I love their friendship. We need that comic relief really. I was very happy she is going to be working with her.
Agree. I am dropping. She bugs and I find everything so over dramatic. Feels too much like a soap opera.
No. I love Ru Ri! lol I just hate the treatment she keeps receiving. I'm sticking it out hoping for a happy ending for her because she deserves it. Plus, the BFF is going to be working with her, and she cracks me up. I actually think the last two episodes look like it's going to find it's footing again.
I look forward to epis every week, but this reunion something feels weird about it. At first I said, oh, I'm glad he has the upper hand romantically, but now, I feel as if he's pushing it to the limit. And she seems kind of too extreme about how much she's in love, and yes, I know you feel like that which is very true to form, but I need a little balance again. As much as people are gonna get upset, maybe that balance is Jung Woo?
And then, we have Jung Woo who is psychologically all over the place throwing out bread crumbs of I know everything, but these two aren't even close to getting what he's saying. I am so nervous and anxious, but I pray he'll stop at the last minute and not propose and just keep intellectually stimulating her because I don't feel that she gets that as much from Jung Sun. It could be another form of wooing her without going to an extreme level.
This seems to have more heart at times while Man Who Sets is more in your face kind of drama, but Ru Ri is my fave female out of both of them TBH. That actress just speaks to me.
Talk about a slow burn though with the romance. lol
