Title Sword Snow Stride Spoiler
I forgot who is the woman with the cat and tagging along with Jiang Ni?
Yu Youwei, a top courtesan who had tried to kill Xu Fengnian but later went to live with him in his residence.

Might be desperate enough to read the novel using machine translate D:. Desperate time call for desperate measure!!…
Yeah, I think I will probably try to think of this as a loose adaptation, it's a bit jarring to be reading and watching at the same time, and the different pacing and developments kind of throw me off. I find myself laughing at some of the changes in the drama cuz sometimes they leave me feeling ??? (also a bit peeved they changed the initial dynamics between Xu Fengnian and Nangong Puye). I miss the humour in the book. I hear the martial arts "improves" later on so I guess I'll hang in there.

Yeah the first 18-20 chapters are very different, it's still a lot of set-up at this point. You can tell Xu Fengnian is perceptive and intelligent, but he's not at this point in any way involved in the state affairs nor is he particularly interested. He is only just starting to take an interest in martial arts. There isn't a lot of plotting at this point. The dynamics between him and the other characters, such as Jiang Ni, Nangong Puye, Yu Youwei, and his various maids, are also quite different.

The drama shaped Xu Fengnian up pretty fast and inserted a fair amount of political intrigue and tension, assassination plots, what have you.

I think some criticism is valid when it comes to the acting of actresses and the roles they get.But what's also…
I didn't really like his styling with his hair all tied up in a bun, lol. Prefer his ponytail hairstyle!

The leads are Zhang Ruoyun, Hu Jun and Li Gengxi, the rest are all supporting and can hardly be main.
MDL lists characters as main even when they're supporting (see majority of J-drama cast lists).

To be fair, there are a lot of cliches in female acting in China that are a result of deeper seated misogynism.…
It is wrong. The character 射 has three readings and the correct one is yè - it is stated in the original Chinese text:
注:南宮僕射(ye,讀第四聲。)

Deep sigh. Another mysogenistic 'I hate her acting'. Rarely, hardly ever does someone comment on the acting of…
In the book, Jiang Ni is the princess of a fallen kingdom and is in the Xu residence very much against her will, so she maintains a pretty frosty and antagonistic front with Xu Fengnian and is always serious in her attempts to kill him. He, however, enjoys getting her goat up whenever he can. The drama toned down their antagonistic relationship and turned it into a bickering, cutesy thing - it could be a directing or scriptwriting choice, coupled with the actress' interpretation of the character.

The drama's changes from the source material have not always been even or logical, so this could be the disconnect some viewers are experiencing with her character. This is my first time seeing Li Gengxi and I have to admit she is not particularly convincing, but maybe she just needs time to grow into the character.

The fights look so lame with the slowmo motion trailing effect, looks so low budget. No idea what the screenwriter…
The fight choreography is terrible, douban having a field day blasting it, and rightly so. Pretty laughable. Some of the changes from the novel also don't quite make sense. Zhang Ruoyun is fine generally.

Title Why I Dress Up for Love Spoiler
This was a lovely drama and probably my favourite romantic jdrama. It contains a lot of the best of romantic jdramas…
Shachi should have just remained as Kurumi's mentor professionally, and we could have used more scenes of him teaching her how to be a buyer. I didn't like the love triangle, and Shachi hijacking Kurumi's date with Shun was underhanded even for him.

But for what it was worth, it was fairly well handled.

Hi, can you recommend something (film or drama) with Suzuki Ryohei? :)
Suzuki Ryohei has supporting roles in Tenno no Ryoriban and Seirei no Moribito, both of which are excellent.

He's also leading Tokyo MER for this summer season.

It's so bad, I'm just watching to see how bad it is at this point. While people think Janice Man is not pretty…
I agree. I don't think Tony understands Qiao Feng's character, his acting is meh and the dubbing is terrible. There is no sense of a great hero in Tony's portrayal, and that scene in Apricot Forest where his identity got exposed... omg it was just embarrassing to watch him trying to emote.

The whole drama so far has no wuxia flavour, no sense of excitement, too much talking and really dull performances by people who clearly don't fit the characters they're portraying. The fight scenes are terrible, just lots of zooming here and there, and no sense of real combat. I can't even tell which character has what skill unless the Chinese subtitles say so, and even then it's still a mess of people just randomly zooming around. It's just laughable. I don't know what the production was thinking, messing up the characterisation and story arcs and introducing characters way too early. It's all so messed up.

Articles hardly get written on doramas and even fewer on asadoras ;) but I am slowly falling in love with asadoras…
That's true, jdramas don't often get featured on mdl, so it's always nice to see articles about them. Hope you keep writing!

Very nice article, thanks for featuring an asadora! They're long, and people don't often have the patience to get through them, but they can be such gems if you do persevere. I hope you enjoy the rest of Okaeri Mone!

Pleasantly surprised to see Watashi ni Unmei ni Koi nante Arienaitte Omotteta among the picks. I really enjoyed this SP and the leads had some very cute chemistry.
