I think besides fall of the first sight, these are the reasons why FL fall for him. And I know all of this because of himself. I also hope his screentime could be lessened because looking at his -please pity me- face really annoying. But, it doesn't prevent me to pity and sympathize with him.

Ma Nianyuan's mother clearly knew that the man was unreliable. But all she could think about was seducing him to make her life better. She's a typical mistress in dramas. Did she really not think about what would happen if something unexpected happened, whether the man died or he got bored with her and found another mistress? I just saw a clip on douyin, in this clip, ma nianyuan's mother (nie chengyuan's first love) blamed ma nianyuan for not taking advantage of Lin yusen that already injured. Imagine if she really did that back then ?
