Uh, the book is very dark and cruel. Truthfully if you were in China in the 1920s or 30s you are screwed. Either you die from famine, or during the Japanese invasion, or during the CCP KMT civil war, or during the Great Leap Forward, or during the Cultural Revolution. It's like a series of neverending wars, revolutionary unrest, famine, and if you were born in the 1800s or 1900s it's even worse due to the Taiping Rebellion (20-30m deaths), Boxer Rebellion, Xinhai Revolution etc etc.

Yes i did but what I type is completely factual too. You can factcheck it from the receipts on Weibo or any Chinese social media site. I even omitted the more salacious details e.g. Xu Kai apparently posted his nudes predebut and there were Chinese netizens saying it was posted to Twitter yesterday. This drama is pretty neutral about Communism and more neutral than the book FYI. In the book the selfish, greedy landlord Ning Xuexiang is worse than the drama, for instance his power balance with Yinzi is extremely lopsided e.g. even after they marry he forces her to sleep with him everytime she wants food for her family, only if she has sex does she get food to bring home. He also bullies and humiliates Yinzi by calling her a prostitute, but he gets beaten to death during the land reforms. The drama makes Ning Xuexiang out to be quite nice and kindly to the point there are people praising Yinzi to be smart for marrying Ning who gets whitewashed as a kind old man so her family is saved but in the book she's abused by the evil landlord Ning and has to deal with it to have food (extremely realistic).
Also there's a lot of criticism & discussuon on Douyin and other sites because some people are criticising Fei Wendian for allowing the masses to take his family's grain and wealth, leaving his SIL and Susu a life of poverty especially after he dies. A lot of people are unable to sympathize with Tietou and the unreasonable uneducated farmers who want more land rights and are upset that Tietou couldn't be written in a likeable way. In other words modern Chinese people sympathise more with the rich landlords and feel upset seeing them lose their wealth to charity (modern China is very capitalistic after all) but this drama does the job of spurring discussion which is the whole point.
The drama isn't CCP propaganda because it shows everyone including the capitalist class as morally grey and not black & white e.g. the honest farmers like Tietou are unreasonable (very realistic), the landlords are nice and softhearted e.g. Fei Zuoshi, the rich landlord class has daughters like Xiuxiu who marry downwards into the farmer class and start experiencing the difficulties of farmers and her rich landlord father starts to empathise more with the poor because his beloved daughter became a farmer. The drama adaptation makes everyone in the landlord class more morally grey and easy to sympathize with compared to the book, so it doesn't really work as propaganda to paint landlords as evil.

Just to lighten up the mood, the drama is a big hit in China so a lot of tourists are visiting the village set and apparently that single-horned cow is really there 😂😂😂

The book is terribly realistic and cruel, e.g. Susu gets raped by Fei Wendian because he's upset that bandits raped his wife to be Xiuxiu. Or Shatiao the village fool is sexually abused by Tietou even while he harbours a crush on Yinzi, but I think the show changes this plotline such that he's not her abuser, it's someone else. Still awful and sad.

In the book she was stuck in the bandit's lair for 3 days 3 nights and was raped iirc. Dajiao is also unable to walk properly and hobbles like a cripple due to his oversized foot. The drama reduces these elements because it would be uncomfortable for the viewers e.g. Chinese fans have discussed why the scriptwriter keeps making the whole "Our pure FL didn't actually get raped mkay" a big deal revealing their own prejudices against portraying the FL as a real raped woman when as you said, women were oft kidnapped by mountain bandits in those days and raped.
