I'm not finding any of this funny y'all. I like the lead actress in general but her character is starting to piss me off, mental illness or not (I'm on ep 5) and the "pervert" jokes are eye roll worthy. I guess I'm hoping for this to grow on me but so far this is disappointing.

Somehow I’m still watching this show (Ep 27) but one thing is really REALLY bothering me! How can the lawyer and prosecutor for this trial be a mother and ex fiancé??? How is that legal?

I think you're describing why they tried to stay apart. She knew once she realized his age and his desire to have a family that they should stop seeing each other but they already fell for each other. She knows their relationship very likely won't last because she experienced it before and he wasn't convinced but eventually realized the same thing once his mom died.
The reality is still that they love each other so their "growth" is that they both know they are choosing to live in the moment together and that probably means more fights and breaking up again one day, but for them being together in the now is better than pretending they don't love each other. That's not the idealistic ending people like to see in dramas but I think it's real.
