I think...we may be kindred spirits, lol. I wouldn't say I always love the male lead in dramas. There are plenty…
You literally described everything I do xD I don't like every ML I come across but I believe that they'll redeem themselves at the end and be deserving of the FL. SLs, I'll be blunt, I don't give them chances. And tbh, it's not like I'm dampening my feelings and pretend I hate them, I really really dislike them lmao
I really really wanted to do the watch challenge this year, but it's too complicated for me and I just gave up trying to understand it. I've decided it's just better to do my own little challenge that fits my wants.
I always get smls, I honestly don't know why. I think and maybe not always, it's when I believe the ML isn't good…
I believe in you snooze you lose which is why I dislike SLs lol because in a lot of the dramas I've seen, they literally are in love with the FL for like 10+ years and they don't confess until the ML comes around. Like you had all this time to confess, but you didn't xD
I think if you define second lead syndrome (SLS) as thinking a lead made the wrong choice, then I do not think…
In almost all of the dramas I have watched, the SFLs are written in such a way that you have no choice but to hate her. Why? Because they are written as full-on snakes, either sabotaging the FL's work, bullying her, assaulting her, demeaning her, etc.
SMLs I've noticed, are written in such a way that have most viewers going for them. This includes but not limited to being nice to the FL, going out of their way for the FL, thinking the best for the FL. Yes, we all want a man like this irl but dramas to me are to want someone with more character, "bad boy" energy you could say.
Thank you for your comment. It was interesting and very thought provoking.
OH MY GOD i thought i was the only one who has second lead hate!!! im so happy im not the only one 😭😭😭…
I start rooting for them AFTER they stop liking the main lead too lol it's not like I wish for their eternal destruction, I just don't like them in the love triangle.
Maybe it's because I'm male, but i don't ever get SLS. I'm annoyed with the idea of a SL even before I start the…
It's nice to see from the perspective of a male! As a woman, I hardly get SLS from a SFL myself, but the only time it happened was Tempted for obvious reasons if I do say so myself. I try to skip over love triangle dramas too and almost all the romance dramas I've seen have a love triangle. I can't seem to escape it.
I love this!! I almost never get SLS, for ALL of the reasons you stated!! And I generally can't stand the SMLs,…
I heard about MFFL from my friend and I guess she had thought the SL was the ML and vice versa. Sometimes the SL has better chemistry with the ML, and that shows poor writing. If the writer constantly confuses the viewers on who the ML and the SL is, then they did not do a very good job of writing the characters.
Edit: Really good article, I'm really glad to see another Sl anti. I am personally a Ml/Fl enthusiasts and I will…
"And I very much hate the nice guy trick! Like he's nice and caring to the Fl that doesn’t mean she have to like him back?!? Like friendship is as good as relationship, if not better." THIS.
Are you nice just because you expect something back? That's not being nice, that's being manipulative and calculative. I'm generally a nice person, and I never expect someone to either be nice back or give me something back.
You can't force feelings, so if the FL/ML doesn't like the SL back, then they don't like them back. They don't OWE the SL something just because the SL was nice to them.
Thank you for reading and sharing your thoughts. I agree completely :)
Strangely, for me it's the opposite, unless it's a romance without a love triangle, because in dramas, the second…
Oh, I see what you mean! Tbh, I don't watch a lot of first love. Second leads in the shows I've watched always feel entitled to the FL because either he saw her first and/or liked her before the ML and that just extremely bugs me. Hardly is there a time where a second lead accepts the FL's/ML's rejection and stops pursuing them. If you truly loved the main lead, wouldn't you want to see them happy and with someone that happily loves them as well? This is, of course, based entirely on my own experiences.
Fun article, thank you! I'm pleased to read something against the flow.I never hate a character, it's just I know…
Thank you for reading and taking the time to comment! I'm glad I could create something that you enjoyed :D
You know, it's less hatred and more annoyance. It's something I've been struggling to work on, but I've just come to terms with it and decided I just dislike a lot of SLs in romance dramas. I find it better to dislike, than to be disappointed with the inevitable result of Second-Lead Syndrome.
They do tend to suffer through a lot, and go through their own struggles.
wow, who would've thought that character was the main bad guy *eyeroll*
I genuinely don't think it was supposed to be that big of a surprise since they've hinted multiple times at it.
Or they just failed on that part of the plot twist. It's hard to have a plot twist in crime shows because most watchers already suspect every character introduced. The only thing they can do is not introduce the killer until the end, but it doesn't make it a plot twist if you don't know them already.
I'm using translate, so uhhhh my bad if it doesn't make sense. I don't speak Portuguese 🤣
Thanks for the article ^^
