[trans - still article] - In The Sword of Aramun, Shin Sae-kyeong is the merciful yet feared High Priest and Spiritual Leader of Arthdal - 🔗 https://entertain.naver.com/read?oid=108&aid=0003175026 - Shin Sae-kyeong is expected to push the envelope by taking on the role Tanya, the spiritual leader and high priest of Arthdal.
New stills have been released of Tanya (Shin Sae-kyeong) in The Sword of Aramun.
“What I found most appealing about this project is that each character has their own desires and the drama so compellingly highlights the psychologies of such a wide range of characters.”
The stills show Shin Sae-kyeong giving us different sides of Tanya at once, who is calm yet quietly powerful, an authority figure that is merciful to her people but also feared by the people. Her Tanya is admired and worshiped by the people and she reciprocates their admiration by treating them all equally and embracing them.
“Tanya shows her maturity by realizing exactly what she has to do and carrying it out. After going through all the pain and suffering, she comes to this realization that where her powers are derived from and how she should cultivate those powers.”
Tanya might come across as relatively toned-down because she insists that we help one another, be more generous, and love one another, and that we get rid of extreme desires to kill or wage war in this age of bloodshed where only the strongest survive.”
“As the filming went on, I became even more convinced that the drama tells a story that is inspirational to not only the people inhabiting the world of Arthdal but also to me who is living in the present time.”
The Sword of Aramun premieres September 9, Saturday, at 9:20 p.m.
I dont know if you remember but during season 1 their korean audience dislike this drama style (especially outfits)…
Even though its fantasy drama, but the series promoted itself as first korean ancient drama and draws inspiration from Asadal, capital city of ancient Joseon or Gojoseon (known for being the first Korean kingdom).
I guess korean expect at least they can be more accurate about appearances. Curly brown hair and their costumes in season 1 certainly not asian traits. Asian has black /dark thick straight hair.
I don't think they willing to risk it again. First season considered as flopped with their heavy budget.
Girl what's with this saya look lmao he used to look feminine will miss joong ki saya
Saya spent the last 8 years on the battlefields.
quote from today's article.
"The right photo shows Saya who has now grown out of his innocence with his face also bearing the traces of the days he has spent on battlefields. The look on his face indicates both hostility towards his enemies and alertness heightened by the anxiety he has harbored for a long time."
I'm sorry, but what happened to Saya?! He doesn't resemble himself in the slightest. And the wig even looks ugly…
I dont know if you remember but during season 1 their korean audience dislike this drama style (especially outfits) and according to them the costumes and hairstyles wasn't korean but copycat of "Game of Thrones"
I believe thats the reason they changed it for season 2 to make it more "korean".
Not only Saya, all characters changed in their appearances. I noticed the hair of all three Saya, Eunseom, and Tanya now straight long black hair. And Taealha with her hairpin and silk costumes.

New stills have been released of Tagon (Jang Dong-gun), who has become the first king of Arthdal in tvN’s upcoming Sat-Sun drama “The Sword of Aramun” (writers Kim Young-hyun, Park Sang-yeon, director Kim Kwang-sik), set eight years after the end of the first season.
The Sword of Aramun is the new title for Season 2 of Arthdal Chronicles. The drama tells the legends of Arthdal as being written by the master of the sword, and the intertwined destinies of Tagon, Eunseom (Lee Joon-gi), Tanya (Shin Sae-kyeong), and Tae Al-ha (Kim Ok-vin) who set out to make their own legends in the mythical land of Arth.
The new stills hint at the charismatic authority of Tagon, who is now the first king of Arthdal. The images are filled with the aura of a ruler with absolute power who cannot be stopped or questioned by anyone. In The Sword of Aramun, Tagon is the king of Arthdal who’s revered and feared by everyone. He is a merciful king to the people around him and his people at large, but is terrifying and brutal to his enemies. The actor is expected to the new Tagon who has become more mature than the old Tagon who was unstoppable and reckless.
Jang Dong-gun shares, “I personally was very curious how the story would continue after Arthdal Chronicles, and I am glad and happy to be back with The Sword of Aramun. In the previous season, Tagon was a man of ambition who was unstoppable and reckless in getting what he wanted. In this season, I tried to portray his anxiety and paranoia as the person with power, who has everything. Since I was tasked with conveying even greater emotional complexity in various situations in The Sword of Aramun, I focused particularly on getting the emotional tone right and fine-tuning it.”

First, the left photo shows Eunseom who’s now bearing the traces of the ups and downs of his tumultuous life. He now looks the part as a courageous warrior who is fully ready to draw his bow at any moment he spots his enemies.
The right photo shows Saya who has now grown out of his innocence with his face also bearing the traces of the days he has spent on battlefields. The look on his face indicates both hostility towards his enemies and alertness heightened by the anxiety he has harbored for a long time. The stills leave us more excited to witness the cruelly fateful encounter of Eunseom and Saya, the twins who are now facing each other from opposite sides.
“Eunseom and Saya are brothers but they have had to live completely different lives. As an actor, it made me very curious what it would be like to portray those opposite emotions and aspects of the twins. So I had to give it a lot of thought. Also, I had not felt such a strong desire to challenge myself in a long time.”
“There is a gap of eight years so I tried to stay focused throughout the process of making guesses and imagining what the lives of these two people might have been like in those intervening years. It was important to fill the gaps and maintain the continuity.”
“My characters cross paths with numerous people. For a great cause of their own, they sometimes reveal their desires; other times they conceal them. So we have all different kinds of tension arising out of those relationships they have. That’s why I tried to spend as much time on set as possible to get better ideas.”
“This time, I went a step beyond it and tried to ‘Live together.’ We all worked hard and I hope this hard work bears good fruit.” - -
it will feel different. they are both different actors
season 2 will be action packed, war theme. and unless you live in the cave, everybody know, not only LJG fans, that this is his genre. According to his fans, SJK not available and so he need to be replaced. TVN did their homework and hired the best expert as replacement. I prefer get a good actor as replacement so he can do justice to eunseom/saya character than less average actor as replacement who will make effort sjk made in season 1 goes to drain.
Flower of Evil is mix of melodrama and psychological thriller.
Director Kim Chul Gyu, which was also awarded at the Baeksang Arts Awards in 2021 as best Director for this drama stated that " Flower of Evil is a melodrama disguised as thriller"
Moon Chae Won mentioned that Flower of Evil is 80% melo, 20% thriller.
So for those who expect full thriller drama similar with for example Mouse drama, big possibility you wont like this drama.
Also, Flower of Evil bagged 5 nominations in Baeksang Arts Award 2021, which all of them were main ones ( not technical ones) and won one (best director) Best Drama, Best Director (Kim Chul Gyu), Best Actor (Lee Joon Gi), Best Supporting Actor (Kim Ji Hoon), Best Script (Yoo Jung Hee)

Many big budget drama released on Disney+ lately. Revenant. Moving. this and later will be The Worse Evil.
Yeah I know its kinda sucks since Netflix is easier to access but I don't think its Disney+ fault.
I just hope Disney+ soon will make korean drama accessible for everyone not only for certain regions
I guess korean expect at least they can be more accurate about appearances.
