Well I definitely do not agree that Sun Ho's romantic interest was Seo Hwi lol (their relationship wasn't a gay one, he clearly liked Hee Jae but accepted that she wanted to be with Seo Hwi) and I don't really like confusing friendship/brotherhood with romance, but other than that yes he absolutely wanted to protect him, just like Seo Hwi wanted to protect him. Their relationship was very moving.

If by similar dramas you mean historical, I can't really recommend any as I haven't seen many, sorry... But if you mean in terms of friendships then there definitely are a lot of good Korean dramas : Signal, Good Manager, Stranger, Age of Youth, The Guest, Fiery Priest, Weak Hero, Black Out, Chimera, Circle are among those I think are the best ones but there are many others that feature great friendships. I hope you'll find something you like :).

Yeah "Through the Darkness is objectively good ! Which is why I rated it 8. It's just that I didn't find it very interestingly done and wasn't entertained enough, for my personal tastes. But I've watched it some time ago, maybe if I rewatch it someday I'll change my mind.

Sad but true.

I think it's actually most annoying with non-romance dramas, precisely because not everything needs to be romance, and when there isn't any for once, then it "must" mean that there is some censored or hidden romance somewhere, usually gay romances because it's the current obsession. Even when it's taken totally out of context. But true, it makes even less sense in straight romance dramas, because then the characters are obviously not gay anyway.

Everyone can enjoy what they like but why make everything about bl and gl ? It totally ruins well-written and deep friendships and platonic relationships. Because now "deep friendships" have to be a cover for something else. If there are two MLs or two FLs and no romance, then it MUST mean they're romantically interested in each other. Why ? Clearly people forgot how friends used to behave before the 20th century, before the time when being truly close same-sex friends became equal to being gay. I think that's a shame, but anyway. Thanks for sharing your opinion, I read a few of your comments here and I agree with you.

It will, no doubt about it. Just look at any same-sex non-romantic but very close main pairings of absolutely every drama that has one. Same-sex romance fans will tell you like it's a fact that it's a hidden bl or gl. If you say it's not, then you're just blind or homophobic because "the love (automatically translated as romance) is obvious". But anyway, you can just ignore it when you watch the show.

I had The First Shot on my ptw list for a while and I finally watched it, it was exceptionally good - not just in terms of friendships but in general. Great writing, great characters.

I was wondering if you also knew some good sismances that don't focus on romance ? Because I can't really find any. They all revolve around romance usually, with multiple couples. It's a bit boring for me. But I wish I could find dramas focusing on female friendships as well, because there are so many with males but not really the opposite. I've seen Age of Youth but it's the same thing : lots of romance. Some is ok though. I tried Dear Enemy and the friendship between the two FL is excellent but some things in the plot made me lose interest unfortunately.

They're best friends irl ? That's nice if it's true. They have collaborated again in an upcoming drama but just briefly, Wang Zi Qi was just a guest or something like that, not a main. Title is "The Punishment". But if you check it out, there are already spoilers about his character in the comment section of this drama so be careful if you don't want to be spoiled. They also have collaborated before The First Shot, in the drama "Bright eyes in the Dark" if I'm not mistaken.

Personally, I'd rather they keep it at the first season. It will never be as good anywway and I fear they'll prioritise fanservice if they do. From my experience, seasons 2 are rarely a good idea. Especially when they weren't planned from the start. But IF miraculously they manage to preserve everything good from the 1st while enhancing it and staying away from fanservice, I'll definitely watch if I can... Time will tell !
