Even in the past life, when Si died, she had taken the throne. I think the drama starts with Si killing the Elder Princess and then get killed by PY.
She is simply greedy for power, delusional character. I believe she schemed to help the Emperor to become Emperor, then gain his entire trust to overthrow him later.
