My heart breaks so much for Gu. By now I’ve lost all hope for a happy ending for him beside death, I’m scared but at this point I think the writer will give him liberation by ending his life.
Just saw that scene from the next episode and im preparing my heart for the worst… gu is sick, like seriously sick. He can’t even pronounce words properly anymore.. he’s constantly cold and stuttering because of his alcoholism.. Korean viewers are discussing the possibility of him having alcoholic dementia on naver as I’m typing this.. preparing my tissues ngl
Rewatched that baby scene and it has so many layers. The baby was never in the stroller and was carried by the woman all the time & the baby looked like it was around 1 year old. It ticks all boxes from the previous episode “I will carry my baby, I want to hold you, I want to hold 1-year old you”. Gu looking at the baby symbolised looking at himself, it was like a bird flying in, the baby was in a place he doesn’t belong, just like Gu. Then the woman walked in and toke the baby saying “it’s time to go home, Let’s go home” again, all these words apply to Gu. It was time for him to go home, to Sanpo, away from a place he doesn’t belong to.
Btw some cultural context: strollers are expensive in korea, many cost thousands. Women pushing expensive strollers is a way to display your social status and material wealth. MJ said “I will hold the baby” meaning she doesn’t care about buying expensive strollers for her baby.
When she said “I want to hold you” and the fact that she was looking at flowers when CH was showing off Gu’s car and talking about how it belongs to MJ’s bf, probably implies she doesn’t care about Gu’s social status. Not as a rich man and not as a gangster who runs socially looked down establishments: nightclub and a host bar. “I want to hold 1y/o you” was referring to their previous conversation when MJ said she wished she knew Gu since he was a child.
I tried a few episodes and maybe these super realistic slife of life dramas just aren't just for me? Felt slow…
Yes. I didn’t like this show in the beginning that much because it was depressing but it starts getting more heartwarming as the story processes. There is character development for everyone and slight comedy as well. I think you should drop it if you don’t enjoy it at all by the end of ep 4
Rewatching the preview and does the screaming voice belong to MJ? Why do I have a feeling she might run into her ex and see him living well and finally have the courage to get mad at him? Also I still want thug bf Gu to hunt her boss in the fields lol
I feel like a lot of people are projecting into this show and especially MJ. You want MJ to be sad and angry because that’s how _you_ would react if you were in a similar situation. There’s nothing inherently evil or abusive in breaking up with someone, especially when your presence is bringing them harm.
Hated the potrayal of stray animals and how they demonized them for the story and normalized, that abondoned pets…
You must’ve never lived in a place with stray dogs. They legit kill people. The dog meat comment has xenophobic tones, it’s no different from pig farms.
What do you all think? Would there be a happy ending or not for all?
I think we are going to experience a turmoil (it has already started tbh) but will end up having a happy ending. The main theme of this show is liberation so I don’t believe the writer is planning a bitter sad ending.
2 years and 3months. He has problems with not feeling worthy of love & happiness and pent up quilt. President shin was thinking about killing him if he didn’t return and they had found out about him having a gf. If he had not left sanpo or returned early they could’ve harmed her + baek’s death was another coat to his repressed quilt and feeling of being unworthy.
I just realized it’s was confirmed that the woman Gu used to live with was his wife. Remember when baek said “I thought it was my wife” but no woman showed up to his funeral? I hope we see a glimpse of his former relationship and what pushed him to become a host boy in the first place. If he really was a former athlete then all my theories until now will be right lol
